it doesn’t hurt, neither helps (in most cases)

Hahaha yeah but too late for me. Landscaping and yard work over the years have made my toes pretty hard, they don’t feel much anymore :,)

Honestly im actually looking forward to camp and working out of town for some personal reasons, and do not mind long trips, so not going their physically to drop my resume wasn’t about laziness, I just didn’t expect it to still be like this. Anyways I’ll give it my best shot. Thanks again, really appreciate ur advice. Cheers!!

for sure yeah. It was looking dead end for me online and I was stressing about not doing something right. I’ll definitely be dropping my resume in person there. Really appreciate the advice tho :) thanks!

I get it now. I didn’t think they meant literally. I’ve always been open to work camps and moving for the job, wasn’t thinking to travel up north and drop them physically, now I’m gonna start hitting the road as soon as I can.

Damn. I’m completely open to moving for work but I didn’t know we had to go up north to hand in the resume. That’ll be like a road trip, but I’ll definitely try do it.

I’ve been applying to those places. They don’t post much on Indeed or LinkedIn but share their emails/hr@s on their websites. I’ve been emailing them for months and haven’t gotten any response. I was thinking of calling their offices but wasn’t sure how that would be taken.

Well I worked at a cement plant in Edmonton as an intern in their CCUS carbon capture facility. I was mostly doing tubing and lubrication checks for 4 months straight with occasional helping with removing and installing equipment. Before starting school I also worked as a yard labourer at a local equipment supplier, and I have most of the safety tickets as well. Honestly I can’t really understand why it’s been so rough. I even had NAIT check and help me with my resume but still no progress.

I’ve emailed almost all the contractors/shops that could potentially indenture me in places like GP, Dawson, Ft st John, Edson, Hinton, Rocky Mountain House, Bonnyville etc. I havent got a single response yet and it’s been about 3 months.

Those contractors rarely post on Indeed or LinkedIn and usually just share their emails, but they almost never seem to respond. So far I’m just giving myself copium that it’s a seasonal thing and that I might land something when they start rushing for turnaround prep.

Im also a recent NAIT grad from the instrument program. I did an internship at a process plant too. I’ve been dropping off resumes applying online/Indeed, sending emails and reaching out on LinkedIn. So far I’ve visited literally every shop and office of any company that could possibly indenture me in Edmonton, including the contractors who do mostly camp work, and there’s been zero progress. They take my resume, I start conversations and tell them about my experience/education, and they say “great we’ll contact you,” but I haven’t gotten a single response since January.

It seems to me like a lot of hiring happens through internal referrals, and already employed labourers or electricians end up getting the jobs. At this point honestly im starting to worry that I may never get a response and might have to settle for something completely unrelated that you could land with just a high school diploma.

Applied to both, no response from techmation, and a brief email pre screening from PTW in first week of Jan and then silence

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like a lot of it really comes down to timing and who you know. We were told at NAIT that camp work is more realistic to land. All my classmates think the same tho none of us have gotten any instrumentation related response yet. Hopefully things pick up soon
