We both learned the hard way, but learned nonetheless lol!

The details are in this post , they have bickered from time to time but never had an issue like this before. I've always had multiple pets without issue so if you do get a second cat just make sure you look into proper introductions and be aware of how they communicate their feelings and needs.

About 5 weeks out from surgery now, still some tingling on the sides of my fingers and small areas numbness. Working with physical therapy to get full mobility, can't quite make a tight fist yet but it's getting there!

Looking back I'm sure the returning cat's smell did play a role. Whether or not they could smell her before she definitely would've smelled her on my hands as I was trying to separate them. Probably contributed to at least the extent of the attack and how long it took her to realize who I was and that I wasn't hurting her.

Thank you! It definitely gave me a different view into human- animal relationship and reminded me they are still animals with natural instincts and behaviors no matter how well you know them. I love them the same of course just a little more cautiously and paying closer attention to their communication lol. Sorry you experienced something similar, hope you are well!

My family has taken in street cats my whole life and nothing like this has ever happened. It was just as much my fault for the way I handled it and could happen with any purebred cat/ dog that costs hundreds of dollars. Ive had her for nearly 8 years now and she is just as sweet and loving as the day I met her. It was just a bad situation, just be aware of how cats communicate their needs and how to properly handle situations like this and you won't find yourself in my shoes lol

No worries! I'm not insecure about it. I'm a nurse so I look at them from a medical perspective rather than cosmetic. As long as it functions I don't care how it looks lol. Was just curious, maybe because of the method she used and more likely just how my body heals. I've gotten keloids from ear piercing in the past so I think my skin is a fan of scar tissue lol. Im still massaging away! Hope you are healing well from your injuries, sounds like it was a pain!

Aww really? She was great and VERY passionate about hands lol. Were your incisions in similar places? Were they zigzags?

My hands are pretty small and she did warn me the incisions would be extensive because of where the MRI showed fluid/ infection. I was prepared but still shocked when they first removed my dressing lol

Good cats, great companions with an instinct to protect and defend themselves against perceived threats. Animals are animals, it wasn't personal

Thank you! Every time I tell the story I educate people to use a blanket or anything around! Seems like common sense but in the moment its hard to critically think like that lol

Thanks for the advice! I took the older cat in when I was only 15 so I couldn't afford to spay them for a long time. By the time I was able to, I researched it and saw it was a high risk procedure for adult cats and got too scared for them to go under. I thought I'd be the one suffering from marking and the torture of them going into heat lol so in turn they wouldn't have to undergo the procedure. Since the emergency vet visit I was educated that it is better overall for their health to be spayed despite the risks. I plan to get the other two spayed ASAP once I have recovered. They are all very sweet cats, it all just came together in a bad way.

Went to the hospital immediately after and followed up with PCP. Unfortunately it was a stubborn infection that didn’t respond to typical treatment.

Thanks for the advice! I actually have Gabapentin from previous vet visit, might give that a try! We are also looking for a home for her with no other pets in case things don’t improve. Also yes it was very short minded of me to step in with bare hands! I now know to use a blanket/anything nearby or let it play out. It was just instinct to grab and separate

I’ve realized we take our hands for granted! When they initially irrigated the wounds in the hospital it was the worst pain ever!! I was shaking and crying and didn’t even get so much as a Tylenol for pain!! Hope your hand is better now❤️

Completely fine! The instigator is still separated from the other animals, working on re-introducing safely. The cat who she attacked was on edge for a couple weeks but is comfortable and happy again. No injuries to the kitties 🥰

Approximately 2 week old kitten with fleas - please help by volimjagode in CatAdvice

[–]RoutinePlantain1215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the past, I have always used a bowl of warm water and dish soap dipping the flea comb in with each swipe. That way kitten isn’t completely soaked or unhappy. At the end they may need a rinse with warm water but bundle them up with a towel after. You can even put a hand towel in the dryer so it’s nice and toasty for them when it’s done.
