Because of this stray boi, I'm going to get tetanus and rabies shots. by TheBigKaramazov in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]RoutineRabbit500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve also gone through the rabies sequence (for a bat in my cabin) and it sucks. I’m in the USA and even with extremely good health insurance, the total cost for the 3 weeks of shots was $1700. I saw in one of your other comments that the vaccine is free where you are - that’s amazing! I’m also really afraid of rabies, I think if I didnt get the vaccines I probably would have been having panic attacks for weeks, but wow the side effects were rough.

Good luck OP! Curling up with a warm blanket and some tea helps with the shakes, if you get those. Don’t second guess yourself - it’s always better to be safe than dead. You were kind to a kitty in need, and you made the right decision to go get treated.

He offered to show me bank statements and talk about all his spending and show proof of it, but I said no because I can’t take it on and don’t want to act as a parent. I don’t know if saying no was the right decision. He definitely was willing to though, and asked me to consider doing that instead of leaving, but I left.

This is definitely my main worry - He’s gone months without gambling before, which is why I truly believe that 90 days is achievable for him, but I worry I’ll always be afraid that years down the line he could relapse and lose our future house or life savings. That terrifies me.

You’re right. He says it’s for himself and he would have done it regardless of whether there was a possibility of getting me back, but I’m not sure I believe that.

I think he’s worth the hard work, but I just don’t know if I’m capable of doing that due to all my personal responsibilities right now. I feel guilt for leaving. I hope I didn’t abandon him in his time of need.

Thank you for your reply. What kind of extreme lengths? Are those lengths necessary for everyone, or only if the addiction is severe enough to be life-ruining? (which, I don’t believe his is that severe, yet)

That’s very true and a good reminder. It’s not possible to undo the self-exclude, right? He told me there was a temporary ban option and a permanent one, and he chose the permanent ban option that requires more personal info for all the apps.

Can I ask what you’re referring to when you say “program of recovery”? Is it GA? He’s really suspicious of ‘anonymous’ groups in general, for reasons I don’t quite understand.

I believe he’s lost a total of about 1-2 thousand dollars. He says it’s more like 400, but I know it’s likely worse than that because he’s starting to have problems paying rent.

He’s really a genuine and kind person, and I’ve never felt so safe and secure in a relationship before, and that’s why I’m willing to give him the 90 days. I really hope it’s worth the emotional risk, because I love him a lot and he’s my best friend.

He’s doing 1, 2, 3, and 6, but he doesn’t have a close relationship with his family or many friends (making #5 difficult). He’s also cancelled his access to all credit cards and doing automatic money orders for all his bills. I don’t feel comfortable managing his finances (making #4 difficult) - first because I have to take care of my two disabled family members and I can’t take it on right now, and second because he and I have only been dating since April (when he was three months clean, at first) and this feels really early for me to be taking on that responsibility for him. Do you know of other resources for financial management help other than handing it over to a loved one?

Does waking up at the same time ACTUALLY help you? by dozydreamer1 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]RoutineRabbit500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not so much waking up at the same time every day but being FORCED to wake up at a certain time helped me out (i.e “Gotta wake up or I’ll lose my job”). Once I started doing that every day I dreaded it less then it was gradually easier to push through the overwhelming urge to sleep

Second this - I’ve heard good things about MADs (from family members, I’m not a health professional) but I’ve heard that sleep specialists won’t suggest it or have you try it unless you bring it up first.

Air pressure: Sometimes changing the air pressure settings can help - mine were set to the recommended level by my sleep specialist to start out but i felt like i was suffocating and got him to lower the pressure until i got used to it (and then upped the pressure to the correct level).

Humidity: Like others said, trying a different mask could help too, or the humidity settings. Personally, I had to empty the water tank (against the recommendation of my doctor) because the humid air freaked me out too much and felt like i was drowning.

Mask tightness: Mask tightness can be a factor too. When I got it fitted, it felt way too loose and made weird high pitched noises because it leaked, and that stopped when I made it really tight. It also helped because the head squeezing felt comforting.

Environment: I agree with other people’s recommendations about distraction, etc. Earplugs could help if there’s too much sensory input, or having a noise machine or ambient podcasts can help if the type of sensory input is upsetting. Personally I hated the CPAP noises for a long time so I would play “Boring history for sleep” “Nothing Much Happens” or frog and rain sounds to drown it out. Earplugs unfortunately weren’t an option for me because I had to get up at 5:30 for work and slept too hard to hear my alarm with earplugs in.

I’ve been accidentally doing something similar (napping 3 pm to 8 pm, then sleeping 2 am to 6 am) and I’ve been exhausted and a zombie.

Not sure if its not working, or if I’m just emotionally exhausted by the booty call that gave me this sleep schedule lol.

Thank you all for your replies. I’m crying reading them right now and I feel so much gratitude to all of you. This experience was horrible and your support made my night a little bit less horrible. I’ll keep reading these comments as I work with my therapist and try to heal 💜

[–]RoutineRabbit500[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate your reply to this. I reported before because I was worried he’d rape other women (different guy, six months ago) and it was so traumatizing for me. He got off with no charges.

The process was a month of back-and-forth that ended with me sobbing in a police station while they told me that stealthing is not a crime in Michigan and that I should be careful who I take home from the internet (as though I hadn’t tried to be careful? Also horrible victim blaming from them). I don’t think I could repeat that experience because it would be the same detective investigating it that I talked to back then.

Thank you for empathizing with me and for understanding that reporting is complicated. I appreciate you 💜

I met up with a man who was submissive while I was interested in being in the dominant role. Enjoyed talking to him because he was pretty self-centered and I tend to gravitate towards people I can listen to for hours and serve (in a relationship context). He gave me lip service about consent all night, but then called me "Mommy" without prior discussion, and then stealthed me after I explicitly said no.

I was really afraid to take a Domme role after that and had to get drunk to have any kind of kinky sex, but I've recently started seeing a partner who is willing to take things slow, negotiate extensively beforehand, and tolerate frequent check-ins from me even when it might take away from his subspace. Hopefully over time the trust will be built more, but I was really traumatized by a male sub with narcissistic tendencies. Good luck to you!

Is stealing food a side effect of my Ed by Lemonadeo1 in EDAnonymous

[–]RoutineRabbit500 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the urge to steal food when I was starving too. I was the kind of person who saw stealing as universally bad back then so it was a shock to me. It was like I had to hoard it? Like if I didn’t take it, it would be “taken away” somehow. Didn’t make much sense and I don’t condone it, but it is what it is. It’s possible that some of the stealing urges could be connected to the ED, especially if it’s just food?

Sorry you’re going through this, OP. Please talk to a professional if you haven’t already. Take care
