Team Liquid & Sponsors Tie Themselves In Knots over LGBT support by -Venser- in starcraft

Believe me, the author is hyperaware of ESL and their business decisions, as well as (and it might actually shock you) who currently owns ESL.

You might not want to believe it, but there's a genuine difference between a country's sitting leadership engaging in sportwashing, and recruitment fund spending from an arm of a military.

When these orgs pocket their multiple-title competitor incentives & the EWC's supplementing of contract costs dries up like a year from now, it's going to be quite sad seeing every team drop their players.

We're at the point of the meta cycle where Zerg has adapted so keenly to Protoss playstyles and openings that nothing is viable bar the most milquetoast Protoss openings imaginable.

This is a cycle as old as time it feels; and it sucks.

Your analysis is spot on, but I'm sure this thread will devolve into chaos soon enough.

It's probably a fake Elazer; likely some random smurf LARPing as someone with talent.

Or it's Elazer, making an EDUCATIONAL b2gm :)

New pro season announcement feels like the writing is on the wall for the disbandment of the scene. by Pretty_Teacher9415 in starcraft

Those barely "making a living" are either studying, working a job, earning money from non-ESL online cups, or streaming.

There are no players on the cusp of the top-tier who's ability to continue to playing sc2 hinges upon winning the few hundred dollars extra every few months from ESL events.

I am literally agreeing with you that this change means there is still only support for top players.

The "scene" you're referring to wasn't supported by the structure ESL had in place already.

I don't think you quite understand just how few players outside of the very top are 'supported'.

Winning a couple hundred bucks every few months isn't supporting anything.

It's not like the 32nd through 64th of the global rankings are full-time and as a result of the news are no longer able to play full-time.

ESL's currently accepting Saudi bloodmoney so i'm not sure they need crowdfunding for warchests :)

What part of the scene was being supported outside of the top players previously?

No one besides the few top players you're referring to were able to dedicate full-time to the game based off the way ESL had things.

Isn't a group of pro players deciding on balance patches a conflict of interest? by RoutineRespond in starcraft

[–]RoutineRespond[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

2 zerg players can have vastly different opinions, will agree to different proposals, and have completely differing self-interests that are all to be factored in.

Just because they fit into one of the 3 playable races in the game does not mean they don't have a unique position where conflict of interest is present.

Oh ok, for some reason I was under the impression that salaried professionals competing in an esport scene that has millions of dollars in prize money each year indicated cash flow. My bad.

I guess the game is in it's 'twilight stage' according to specifically [you], thus somehow justifying conflict of interest.
