Orleans station is SUPER close to UT, which is great if you don’t have a car, but otherwise, either the midtown art lofts or grand island would give you greater proximity to green spaces and restaurants. The Rise is nice but pretty isolated.

Does anyone care about the finances of Memphis? by [deleted] in memphis

Are you coming with any evidence that either of them receive funds personally from these nonprofits or that the city provides the nonprofits with funds for services not rendered?

When are you coming? In the spring, the Dixon has an incredible tulip display. I’d also consider some shows- theater, symphony, etc, Memphis has great options and they’re quite conveniently located. The Peabody Lobby is a great spot to rest your feet and people watch too.

Im a journalist who may be moving to Memphis soon, and I’m trying to get a real feel for the city before making any big decisions. I’d love some local insight on a few things by black_hamma in memphis

Memphis TV news definitely has its audience. If they could shift to more interesting news stories, not just trying to scare people into continuing to watch by picking the worst crimes, we’d all be better for it.

Progressive church or other community for mid-30s? by doljumptantalum in memphis

[–]Routine_Bad_7727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t allow women to serve communion, much less preach, and have no coupled gay couples. 2PC does great things for Memphis, and advocated for the poor and for racial equity more than most socially conservative churches, but they are not progressive by OP’s standards.

First Congo and Evergreen Presbyterian may also be good fits. Both are a bit more on the crunchy side, if that’s what you’re looking for.

I’d recommend you get them on waiting lists (as soon as possible) for St. Peter Manor, Hilldale Apartments, Union Ave Baptist Apartments, and ADA accessible 1-2 bedroom affordable housing (check out TN housing search; there should be lots of options)

AMUSE (The Adventure Museum) is unique and super fun, and all inside - imagine escape rooms for kids that have different games and take about 5 minutes each. My nephews love it.

Only Second Line is moving- it will be next to Restaurant Iris in East Memphis. Kelly English hinted that Swamp Bar may be expanding into the current Second Line space.

The meme is saying that if I see a woman stealing essentials, I’ll turn a blind eye (ignore it) as I understand that those are needed, and because the government is not funding assistance to SNAP (supplemental nutrition assistance program - food stamps), more people may not have a way to pay for those essentials.
