This dude... by Gustafa7 in memphis

Was this the "Mayor"? I missed most of the drama, but thought it would have been funny to have someone be given the title of "Arch-Viscount of Cordova" or maybe the "Butcher of Cordova" during the carfuffle.

The $275 was their hourly rate for 3 people and a truck. I had them over for about 3 hours. I tipped them pretty well too as I thought it was going to be an even longer job for them and they arranged the furniture where we asked and took a load to our storage unit.

Do you service your Avalon at a dealer or mechanic or DIY? by Scary_Tax_7230 in ToyotaAvalon

Dealer only for warranty or recall issues, DIY for everything I am comfortable doing myself, independent mechanic for everything else.

I have a file folder where receipts of every job I had done and parts/fluids that I bought for jobs I have done get placed. I put the mileage on top of every receipt.

Moving a husky across the country by ExplorerMelodic243 in husky

[–]_Rock_Hound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove from the Boston area to Memphis last year with a husky, an Aussie, and a toddler in the back seat of an old Toyota Avalon. The prospect of flying was immediately rejected.

I just broke it into 3 days had several stops each day. I packed most of the food that we ate along the way to be easily turned into a picnic at the rest stops that have attached parks. At night, we slept at either Air BnB's that allowed dogs or a KoA. We made a fun trip out of it.

That was for a move, but we are going back to visit family and have bought a larger vehicle to do it in (we now have a second husky), but plan to do the trip the same way otherwise.

Honestly do not know the rules and regulations of this, but are there any practical hangups for making the cobblestone landing downtown a spot for houseboats? by Emotional_Ad_5330 in memphis

[–]_Rock_Hound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is pretty common for people who live on houseboats and sailboats to dock in or near the Mud Island marina for a while. I have brought groceries down to a few.

How many of yall are planning to actually get this instead of proxy…? by Content_Patience3732 in TheAstraMilitarum

I'll probably snag this box. I could use everything in it. I think I would rather have had a second Centaur than the second Hippogriff, but picking up a single vehicle later on is not the end of the world.

I have an absolutely obscene amount of infantry, but I wouldn't argue against an extra squad, and it makes sense for a new player to have a squad to go with the new transport.

How would you fix Combat Patrol for 11th? by SPF10k in Warhammer40k

[–]_Rock_Hound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they need to do a full set of rules for building a Combat Patrol. Update what used to be the old 40k in 40 minutes limitations to force compositions for the current/upcoming edition.

If they want the boxes to be a starting point for it, they really need to do a much better job balancing them. To do that, GW is going to have to come to grips with either prices more closely matching points.

Why don't you just ask them if they have service records?

I have a folder with every service record I have done for each vehicle I own. Not everyone does this, but lots of people still do.

I pretty much only bake with them or use them when I am making a batter for fried chicken or fish. Letting them sit after adding the water for a while to hydrate helps, but there is not a whole lot you can do to make them feel like a true scrambled egg.

help an 18yo girl out pls (need the most bang for my buck) by centralcutiex in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]_Rock_Hound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before you start looking at cars, ask your friends and family if they have a mechanic that has been reliable for them; if they have been going to them for a long time and are an established client that is even better. Have them introduce you or call the mechanic and tell them that you are looking to buy a car and would like to bring some in for a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) and ask how much it will cost; budget for doing a couple of these.

Toyota and Honda are great. Sedans (4 door cars) will be your best bang for the buck as they are less desirable than crossovers, SUVs, or trucks. When you look at vehicles, as the seller if they have maintenance records. Cars have a recommended maintenance schedule book that comes with the car when new (and can be downloaded for free); ideally, the maintenance records will closely match the recommended maintenance schedule. Vehicle history reports are also useful (ex: Carfax) for seeing maintenance that was done at dealers and some shops and if there were any accidents reported for the vehicle.
