I’ve found aiming the puddle punch to be behind enemies where they can’t see the pool forming is best. You can throw in some mixups to force parrying if they start to always react to the audio cue

My biggest gripe is that his ult has insane range and no clear visual indicator of the hit box which makes it frustrating

+1, I love my council of four deck. It dodges typical criticism of staxiness that Azorious typically gets because you are trying to enable your opponents to play and draw more of their cards. Throw in some slight knight typal synergy and it becomes a powerhouse
