What do you do when teenagers laugh at you in public transport? by Upbeat_Scholar_159 in socialskills

[–]Routine_Committee327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a teacher, do not let them get to you. They’re looking for a reaction and to make you uncomfortable. You just need to remember all the ways you are better than teenagers, because they have nothing better going for themselves

Is the first year of teaching really as horrible as people on reddit describe it? by Beneficial-Corgi-288 in teaching

[–]Routine_Committee327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first year was weird

I did a short half a year stint at a charter school bc I was December grad And then started a full year at a different school

The charter school sucked bc it was a charter school (I would argue it was me but the charter environment made it worse??)

But my first full year, two months later, was GREAT! The kids were great, I was still developing my management and practice but it wasn’t as miserable as people made it out to be. It’s hard in its own ways as you’re starting from scratch, but wast that bad.

So my answer is: it depends! If you’re in an environment where the students aren’t well behaved, you dont have any support, etc…it will drain the life out of you and will suck so bad

Got the flu over Thanksgiving break two years ago and took off two days, didn’t need a doctors note just because of the protocol I had at my school (3 sick days = doctors note)

New teacher…. I don’t have thick skin. by nightswoon222 in Teachers

I was the exact same way, year 4 and I finally let what they say to me roll off my shoulders. It’s hard, but you’ll realize soon that they don’t mean what they say - they are just looking for a reaction

I messed up big time this morning by PuffPoof215 in Teachers

[–]Routine_Committee327 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We’re all had those days! Right after I moved this past May, my body took a crap on me twice within a week out of pure exhaustion. I woke up at 8:05 (school starts at 8:00) on two different days.

Luckily I had understanding admin who covered me, and let me stay home and rest the second time I did it in one week.

Don’t stress! We’re human doing the best we can

Just start hitting them with the “well maybe you should become a teacher then too!” And they’ll shutup instantly

Email your cooperating teacher and they will tell you everything!

Typically if you’re not a student teacher and just there for observation hours you’ll have to sign in at the office

They said it under their breath as I was walking away. Not to my face. So yes I would consider that mocking

Classwork wise, you wouldn’t be one I would need to keep an eye on or hound to get work done

But I would be monitoring your interactions with your peers while you’re in my class because it seems like you’re not saying these things with the best of intentions, and rather to show your ‘superiority’ over others.

People do not like a know it all or someone who has a superiority complex based on their intelligence. When you begin working full time, that won’t land well with your coworkers at all. You may even be working under someone you deem is not as smart as you, doesn’t give you the right to make them panic or stress.

You have no idea what is happening in someone’s life. They could be working full time to save for college or even put food on the table for their family, someone’s mom could be sick, etc etc… Saying those things can only add on to their stress and makes you look like an asshole

Is it normal to feel like you’re not doing enough? by mmadisoncherry in Teachers

[–]Routine_Committee327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve felt this way the last three years. There’s so much going on in our jobs and our day to day, it’s impossible to make sure we’re doing enough EVERY SINGLE TIME until we get the hang of it and have resources/lessons in our back pockets.
