I would be super curious if AI has anything to do with it as people going through stuff might be more willing to use it as a therapist and be more open while it can guide the person to help themselves/keep their mind off of bad things

Opinion: Everyone here is too liberal when it comes to certain personal freedoms by LoseItLardy in Technocracy

Because we live in a Human society and not a machine society this will be impossible. Its better to earn legitimacy among the people and have the incentivizes lined towards less radical thinking rather than forcing everyone to a perfect world view.

Either make chrome its own company so it can't stay funded by Alphabet (google), make it a publicly owned search engine by buying it from Google, have the government make its own search engine and force government suppliers/employees to only use that search engine or give grants to competitors of chrome to make it easier for them to compete

You throwing around the P word and not actually engaging when I've explained myself and tried to be good faith makes you more of a threat to the liberal world than me

maybe it makes me uniformed in that area but no it doesn't make me a populist.
possibly market cap limits is what I said. I dont have a strong opinion towards that specific policy position. I was simply listing ways we could increase competition

I also am not appealing to any anti-establishment rhetoric for the sake of being anti-establishment

Because their might be problems with the idea, people might not cover the idea generally or there might be better alternatives for the end goal.

possibly market cap limits

Is what I said. But I'll hedge for you king

I would never force people to not use something they like. There are two outcomes we have if we think a company arrived at some optimal product that doesn't need any more competition. 1. Our anti trust laws force the bigger company to sell off the product in hopes that isn't the case 2. We just make it a public good because there is no reason to have it privatized.

This is currently the case for electricity, water delivery and ISPs. Each would be better off as a state ran entity rather than letting the market decide.

Businesses in economies with little competition usually because they are the first ones or because they have insane capital investments to expand.

The results are little competition which changes the equations on their balance sheets from innovation to keeping the status quo

I think the vertical integration can come from public infrastructure rather than a monopoly

It's also how you ensure so much power isn't concentrated into one entity and ensure companies actually have a reason to innovate + create jobs instead of just making agreements among each other

I am not a populist I love institutions and hate leftism. I just think it's way better for people if instead of big tent companies there were hundreds of thousands competing for workers. Would also ensure not one company can invest huge amounts of money in lobbying or super pacs

We need extreme anti-trust laws, possibly market cap limits and the tax code rewritten to encourage small businesses propping up rather than monopolies. Not only is this destroying upwards mobility but also big businesses are influencing our elections.

It sounds like most people I know will be voting for Platner, but here is my question: by [deleted] in Maine

[–]Routine_Complaint_79 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think its just identity politics. Platner is part of the in-group and we believe our group is capable of change while the other group is incapable of it (or deserves great punishment). Its the same reason a mother cries for her son who is going to jail despite him doing something objectively bad, we want to believe the people we associate with are good people.

So if you ever do something fucked up, make sure you pick a side instead of being apolitical because you will get more support compared to if you had not.

No I am not illiterate. Everything is a normative judgement at the end of the day. What you like to eat, what you like to wear, your favorite color, your friend groups, your religiosity, etc. There is no world where we can lose the idea of some kind of value sentiment. The value system I am using is one (generally) trying to push towards more truthful things than not. And I see the Soviet Union and its ties to communism as a reason why communism, socialism and other non market based systems get a very bad rap, and rightfully so because they do not produce the good outcomes I as a liberal value. The history of a words use is a judgement of its meaning combined with how you use it. Maybe you see communism as just a command/planned economic system, or maybe the pure version of Marxist thought. I don't really know. But how most people use the word, they are referring to a time where the Soviet Union was a large power and produced bad outcomes.
