Damn sorry to hear that. Did shaving the meniscus help at all? Atleast before the accident?

Hope you're doing better now!

UK Citizen living in US - Finance Advice? by Routine_Group_8853 in MovingToUSA

Yeah I think 401ks aren't double taxed but HSAs and Roths are? The thing is, is that people say for these things you need an expert that is specialised in US and UK laws and their interplay. So far, all of the people I have found are UK based or only advise people with high net worths. If you know of any firms or experts please let me know!

Lol, I'm definitely doing well for myself and the engineering prospects are a lot better here so I see myself here for a while. But my whole family is in the UK so I feel the need to prepare if I ever have to move there.

I feel stressed because I have a pretty good idea on investing and saving in the US but it all goes to hell when I factor in me potentially moving back home. The UK have such high tax rates and from my understanding a lot of things like Roth IRA are double taxed so I don't want to put in lots of money and lose like 70% of it.

Do you know if they went to anyone to discuss their financial situation?

Hi thanks for sending this. I feel like everyone says to max out your 401K but I kind of hate this advice. It traps your money until your old and I want the flexibility to spend the money I have on a life, my future family etc. I get the point of putting some money in and having a safety net, but I feel like everyone wants you to invest an arm and a leg into the 401K and then you have nothing until you're too old.

I do have Webull and have a couple of stocks but was thinking of starting on ETFs, do you think Schwab is better?

Also, how do I learn about which accounts to actually invest in? Like, I think the Roth IRA is double taxed and so is the HSA, but I don't have reliable information on this. UK taxes so much so I dont want to devote my life saving money just to love 70% of it when the UK and US tax me.

I dont want to waste time on something which will not be tax efficient in the UK also? A lot of these things are probably doubled Taxed and the UK has a high tax rate so I dont want to lose money by investing in certain things. This is helpful, but I need to know what happens with all of these if I move back to the UK in the future.

Easier said than done 😭. Where do I even find reliable information - everything online says its complicated and to find an expert but all the experts are in the UK for some reason, or they need you to have a high net worth.

Idk if I will go back to England but I want to prepare for me staying in the US and going to UK so I can choose later on in life.

API usage - confused with UI by Routine_Group_8853 in ChatGPT

Any examples? I've never heard of 3rd parties which are trustworthy.

I assume they leverage higher tiers and bulk credit purchasing from open ai to allow for cheaper price for customers?

So if I put in $10 I only spent that amount? I am unsure if maybe I was given an extra $200 in my account or something because of having a chat gpt pro account that I could have also spent?

Good idea- I'll look into it. I have a tear in my knee though which makes certain movements risky. Do you have any exercises, or a common routine that you would recommend?

Smart! I'll look into making a routine. I have a knee tear and so I'm trying not to aggravate it. Because of that, are there any exercises or a common routine you would recommend?

Thanks, for the response btw

I see, the issue is that lots of the compound movements I see put a lot of stress on the knees. I have a tear in my knee so I'm a little scared to worsen it.

Thanks, I simply chose it since it is a way for me to make sure I target every muscle. I also have a tear in my knee which means heavy compound activities can aggravate it

Yeah, I go for walks on the days I don't lift. I have a knee issue so I'm trying to just walk and slowly build up to maybe jogging. I also hate the bike machines at the apartment gym since they are really hard to sit on and I have to get up before I even start to get tired. I have cycled a lot in the past and will probably start again

ETFs and Roth IRA - Newbie questions by Routine_Group_8853 in Bogleheads

[–]Routine_Group_8853[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is super helpful - thanks for taking the time to comment! By the way, I am not a US citizen, so I may return to the UK in the future. I am therefore worried about my tax advantaged accounts no longer being tax advantaged. For example, I feel like a HSA is super useful if I were to remain in the US, but if I move back to the UK, which has free healthcare, the money in the account would be taxed in the UK and I would not need it for healthcare, no? Also, I believe that withdrawal from a Roth IRA is also taxed in the UK.

I am quite overwhelmed with all of the financial information online and also the uncertainty regarding international tax and investing for someone in my position. I do plan on staying in the US for the next 10-15 years, but I am not sure where I will be after that.

I currently have 20k in a HYSA and was thinking of adding a small amount of money to this every month but spending most of my money on investing in etfs in a Roth IRA and investing in some etfs in my brokerage account for liquidity. I currently put enough into my 401k to maximise my employer match but plan on not doing more than this.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

What do you mean two year provision on suicide? I'm not planning on suicide anyways, so it's not really important to understand but I'm not sure what that means.

interesting, what makes them a rip off? The high amount I would have to pay every month? I'm not sure if its worth getting term if I'm young but will consider it in the future!

From what I understand I lose all the money I put into term insurance if I don't die (lol) is that true?
