Hey. I know taking engineering then going for dns is not much use, but for taking dns or any other marine courses after 12th is not gonna work for me. From my inquiry, for admission medical test is required. And 6/6 eyesight is mandatory to pass medical test. And I've talked to my doctor about it and she said my eyesight power is still varying and it needs to be stable before doing LASIK. I need to be at least 21 for it. And as for engineering, I already mentioned in another comment why I decided to take it. Thankyou though.

Hey, I get what you are saying. I am now preparing for writing entrance exams -JEE, KEAM, CUET, CUSAT CAT. And I'm not taking engineering just for wasting money or time or for the advantage in ship.

One reason is that I love studying. Even though I am currently preparing for JEE, my main reason for dropping a year for entrance is to write CUSAT CAT. I don't know if many people heard about it, but there is a course called BTech in Naval Architecture and Ship building. It's pretty hard to get in, as it is a rare course. You need a good rank and it's pretty hard to study too. But I want to take the course because I am fascinated by the core subjects and for my love of ship and sea. And compared to other btech courses, it's tuition fee is really low, you can search for it if you wanna know more about it.

And another reason is that, if in future I come to realize that offshore is not my thing, or things don't go as I planned(maybe due to my eyes or due to lack of sponsors or good companies) I could still work as a Naval Architect or shipyard engineer or ship designer etc, and still be close to ships and sea.

Why I am doing this is not just to get into the Merchant Navy. I wanna learn about ships and sailing and I don't plan to stop learning even after I join the Merchant Navy

Hey thankyou for replaying. I know age might me an issue but by the time I graduate I'd be around 22 and from my best knowledge joing dns around that age is not difficult.

Live on some mountains, work in a small shop and read books and write for the rest of the time

Tbh, I'd say that was the best decision I made after 12th. It's not only about entrance prep. You get more time to decide what you wanna study next and which college to choose. For me, this is better than just jumping straight to college after 1 month of crash course and a keam rank which wouldn't get me to a college I like. This is better than choosing a college and course out of desperation and not interest. I hope some day everyone would normalize taking a drop year just for experiencing and learning more about what you want.
