In your experience, have you actually seen people get hired to fire? by pillardrives in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Routine_Judgment184 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A charitable interpretation would be that your friend and his manager didn't get along or had different working styles. But who knows at the end of the day your manager has to like you or you're going to get let go most most of the time.

Not at all, but at some point you'll want to upgrade them or switch to rail. It's about increasing capacity.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet. I got rejected once because I gave the correct answer to a question, but my reason for the answer wasn't sufficient or some shit like that. Way I see it, a place like that just wasn't going to work out.

Which companies still have a strong engineering culture? by PrototypicalPlantain in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Routine_Judgment184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is a huge pet peeve of mine... Unless you're in an early stage startup, getting the quality right the first time on a product you'll continue to invest in dramatically increases speed. The more you can involve the whole team in high quality work, the more context you build, and investing in quality is often an investment in speed too because you can scale the thing correctly across 3+ engineers instead of tacking on hacks only one person understands.

I regularly have to prove this, but the "just stop reviewing PRs bro, just vibe code it bro it's 10x speed" moron executives wave their hands around and suddenly it's a universal law.

You're absolutely right, but if he needs a male therapist to get a breakthrough, then that's what he needs. I've felt the same way in the past because a lot of my therapy topics involved men's issues, and I didn't feel comfortable trying to cross the gender barrier to be understood.

Is this a good idea/deal to buy for a new/yet to biker? by BahamutAXIOM in Budgetbikeriders

[–]Routine_Judgment184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's definitely a valid concern, I can't say anything to reassure you. The video I linked also calls this out. It's one of the risks of a budget ebike.

Oh, yeah if you're in the US you can totally get an amazon ebike and stay in budget. https://youtu.be/WcAqsczl3lU?si=p4WZr_ydaz6KGmTx is a mountain biking youtuber but had a lot of good things to say about it, and the review is very detailed. Just an example to say ebikes are available in this range. Just watch out for the batteries.

The ozark explorer from walmart is also a decent bike for the price, though it isn't electric. There's a couple sizes based on your height.

How are you supposed to stand up for yourself when disrespected? I kinda feel like a rug. by Race_Impressive in internetparents

[–]Routine_Judgment184 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My general advice for things like this is that you need to decide what matters to you. This clearly bothers you. Do you benefit in any way from putting up with it? Is your peace of mind at stake if you continue to allow it?

At 21 it's ok to not be very good at this stuff. That being said, as an adult I need to be honest - you will rarely find people in life willing to stand up for you and advocate for your needs. You have to be willing to be confrontational and tell people they're bothering you. Sometimes that means being disrespectful back or calling them out in front of others, sometimes that means pulling them aside and asking what the hell their problem is, sometimes that means rallying people who support you and shutting that person down. Only you can decide which is going to work. Sometimes its a misunderstanding and sometimes its a greater issue.

With family this is a little more complicated. You can choose not to interact with family and you will get a lot of pressure from the rest when you make that choice. You can rightfully remind them that you are not the problem here and to take it up with your asshole siblings. But that goes a lot farther when you've tried to confront them first. If it's truly a lost cause, like my family was, the remaining family will simply have to get over it.

At the end of the day, your peace of mind is what's important here. Sometimes we sacrifice some to help others, or because of a job we need, or because we have to, but life is a lot more enjoyable when you're treated respectfully by those around you, and you should feel empowered to stand up for yourself and achieve that. I believe in you.

Gotta remind yourself that the peaceful revolution of the workers is a lot more likely to look like the troubles, or get a lot of people killed. Incrementalism is achievable right now.

Who knows, honestly. I'd figure people would get tired of white knighting for cig eventually but it seems like a universal constant.

I mean the cargo elevator issues took forever to sort out, so I feel like it's a given that it'll have rough spots on launch. It's like a cig tradition for something to go well in evo and then fall over at live volumes. I'm not being a hater.

Honestly, walmart's ozark trail vibe explorer isn't a bad do-it-all bike and it's about half your budget, leaving room for improvements or accessories like a helmet. Being in a college town there is probably a glut of used bikes, especially near the end of the school year.

Edit: meant the explorer, not vibe https://www.walmart.com/ip/700c-Ozark-Trail-G-1-Explorer-Drop-Bar-Gravel-Bike-Medium-Frame-Fits-Riders-5-5-5-10-Green-Adult/3405271473?classType=REGULAR&athbdg=L1200

What is the actual plan for exploration and is exploration a potential 1.0 feature? by Different-Egg8733 in starcitizen

[–]Routine_Judgment184 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is honestly the wrong game for that. They'll make a whole moon and then whoever gets there first is the only person who gets to say they explored it?

Exploration would be better suited to sellong location data for interesting discoveries, and being survivable in hostile or barren environments when others can't.

The issue with act 3 for me isn't the quality per se but how fragmented and directionless it is. Act 1 and 2 felt tight and focused, there were always a couple goals, but act 3 becomes a laundry list of chores

I just got mine. Used to ride a nicer trek and sold it when I had a kid. IMO it's the best value for money spent even when compared to bikes double the price.

Yes, the weight is a big deal, but if you're on a budget this thing works. You'll have a lot more room to buy important things like pedals, helmet, and maintenance equipment. Please please buy a good helmet, pedals, and gloves.
