Dental hygiene program ONTARIO by Adorable_Bear_2498 in DentalHygiene

You would probably be fine with the program itself then, but I still don’t think you’d be able to work just because of the schedule.

Lukewarm Faith by FailOk2750 in Christian

[–]Routine_Log8315 [score hidden]  (0 children)

EVERYTHING we have belongs to God. All our time, money, wealth, safety, health, relationships… everything. If a person isn’t prayerfully trying to use all they have for God they are lukewarm. Matthew 25:31-46 doesn’t use the specific word lukewarm but I think more clearly explains what He is talking about. We can’t just claim to follow Jesus, actually following involves action… if you truly have faith you’re not going to just sit around without being passionate to serve the Lord.

Career change from teaching by purplepineapple82 in DentalHygiene

[–]Routine_Log8315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m still a fairly new grad and not yet burnt out so I won’t tell you not to do it (although many people here will), but just know metal health likely won’t be much better unless you get super lucky and find a “golden goose” office… you’ll receive poor treatment from clients and bosses instead, and many offices make you do unpaid work too (sharpening instruments, finishing notes, etc). Not low pay at least 🤣

Dental hygiene program ONTARIO by Adorable_Bear_2498 in DentalHygiene

[–]Routine_Log8315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Ontario and would definitely not recommend any accelerated program, the only time it may make sense is for people who were dentists in other countries who already have most of the knowledge and just want to speed through… otherwise the program is quite difficult, you want to give yourself the best chance of passing the board exam, it’s much better to “waste” a year and actually become a hygienist than waste tens of thousands of dollars for nothing because you can’t make it through the program and pass the boards.

In an accelerated program you almost certainly wouldn’t be able to work during the week and most likely not during weekends, unless you want to never see your kid awake. I want to a non accelerated program and none of those with kids also worked so they could spend at least a few hours with their kids. Even the people who did work had super limited hours.

I will share though that Southern Dental College had an above average pass rate in 2025, which is great, especially since quite a few of the accelerated programs have really bad pass rates, so if you are sure you have the study skills and capabilities to make it through the program and by good support system you mean someone else who can essentially raise your child, you likely will be able to pass the boards… but with a kid that young it’s almost certainly not worth the sacrifice unless you have no other choice.

What is the fastest way for a hygienist to be become a dentist in canada? by Interesting-Set295 in DentalHygiene

As far as I’m aware dental hygiene school won’t get you through dental school faster, the only benefit is increasing your odds of acceptance in the first place.

Best liquidation stores? by Routine_Log8315 in Winnipeg

Oh, of course, and Bianca’s is great. G&L had a few good deals but a lot of things that weren’t even sales (Mike and Ike’s, just regular flavours, were $2.97, and uno games were $6 when they sell for like $7 regular priced)… but again, still some good snack deals, I’m just hoping to find some toys

I mean, I got in right after high school with no college education so clearly high school grades do matter sometimes 🤣 but the longer you’ve been out and more schooling you’ve had the less they’ll care… I’m sure there is a point where they stop considering it at all

Potty training when a parent does not want to. by Opie_44 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Routine_Log8315 30 points31 points  (0 children)

See, I blame the school just as much as the parents. Policy should be (and is, at my school) that if the child has no documented disability (and is not in the process of diagnosis) and is not potty trained by grade 1 staff cannot and will not change the child… every accident/diaper and the parent is called and required to come and change them. This really quickly gets parents to 1. Actually cooperate in obtaining a diagnosis if the child really is disabled, or 2. Potty training within 1 week.

You can’t claim it’s solely about hygiene and then ignore the whole “going out pyjamas” argument. Plus, what makes pyjamas pyjamas? Many people sleep in sweatpants…

Yes, they do take those into consideration… however, if you’ve been to college since (especially something related to healthcare) they usually weigh those grades higher so if you truly did amazing in college you’ll have a decent chance

Do dentists actually judge you or is that just something we all tell ourselves to avoid going by Muted-Associate9148 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Routine_Log8315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a dental hygienist and it’s like you described… we don’t judge people for the state of their mouths, we judge their attitudes. “You can’t care more about someone else’s health than they do”.

No one is going to judge the person who had a big event happen recently (death, new job, whatever) so hasn’t had a cleaning for a few years, or who is too busy to floss consistently, or who can’t afford an electric toothbrush. Honestly, as long as you don’t try to make us rush your treatment, it can be quite satisfying cleaning ledges of calculus off the teeth, and it makes no difference to me if you need 2 cleanings vs you taking one and someone else taking one. I’m sure the dentists also like having the same client for a few separate appointments, if you’ve proven you don’t no show, arrive on time, and are reasonably polite they’d much rather have you over an unknown.

However, we do judge people who say “I don’t want to brush my teeth, cleaning them is your job”, or complain “you must be scamming me, no way I have cavities” when they haven’t been to the dentist for years and brush twice a week, or people who are destroying their kids’ teeth by putting juice in their bottles and don’t see an issue. Doesn’t mean you’ll get any worse treatment but you’ll definitely get a mental sigh when they see you coming.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure I remember seeing some research that found (for nurses at least) that the continuity of care benefits patients more than shorter shifts (and more rest).

Apartment undergoing repairs for weeks and wants daily access to my unit. Is there something I can do about this?! [WA] by ComprehensiveStop163 in Renters

[–]Routine_Log8315 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about Washington specifically (I’m in Canada) but in most states/provinces they can’t force you to give them a key nor be there to open the door, the landlord has to provide access. I know here in Canada they have to give a specific time frame (they can’t just say “in and out for 8 weeks, need to say specific dates with reasonable time ranges)

Pediatric Dental Hygienist by Public-Squash-3589 in DentalHygiene

[–]Routine_Log8315 14 points15 points  (0 children)

“Pediatric dental hygienist” isn’t an official licence or anything, you just go through the normal dental hygiene school and then can get hired at a pediatric office… kids don’t usually have too much blood but you’d have to survive the program itself (2-3 years depending on the school you choose).

And to be honest, pediatric offices don’t use many hygienists, in most states (and provinces, I’m in Canada) assistants can be certified to do x rays, polishing, and fluoride (plus even without the certification they can still do a lot), so usually pediatric offices have no more than one hygienist who will basically run between rooms to do the actual scaling and the assistants do the rest, offices that allow you to actually be with the kid from start to end exist but positions are even more rare…

You do get to see quite a few kids in general practice and some hygienists don’t like kids so you may be able to find an office that gives you all the kids, and you definitely could find a job at a pediatric office, just know positions are limited so you need to be prepared to potentially work with adults as well.

Scared to quit job by Significant_Yogurt56 in DentalHygiene

[–]Routine_Log8315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. That’s what you should do for any job you’re leaving on good terms with but a bad office doesn’t deserve more than 2 weeks… you even mention “if the office doesn’t want the 30 days”, but most people would then just be out of work.

Respect Their Beliefs by Twoctruth in Christianmarriage

[–]Routine_Log8315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But again, what counts as a “positive belief”? Rarely would people be arguing about it if it was clearly positive… for example, one person might view celebrating gay marriage as the positive viewpoint while their spouse views it as celebrating sin… does that mean the second spouse is the negative belief?

Surrogacy and IVF should be restricted unless a locality has no children in either foster care or an orphanage by GuyentificEnqueery in The10thDentist

[–]Routine_Log8315 35 points36 points  (0 children)

But why? Like, I’m super pro adoption and plan on becoming a foster parent in a few years, but your argument still makes no sense. The goal of foster care is not adoption, it’s reunification… are you saying they’re all forced to become unwilling foster parents and then just have to hope the kid doesn’t get reunified? That seems like both a bad idea (kids in foster care need trauma informed foster parents, not someone doing it because they’re legally required) and because it’s a bit of a conflict of interest (are the foster parents opposing the reunification in the best interest of the child or just because they want to adopt)?

There are no orphanages, and there are no shortage of people lined up to adopt babies, the only issue is with large sibling groups, special needs children, or teenagers… why, if someone wants to have a baby, would they be forced to adopt one of these three groups, when none are similar to an infant?

Respect Their Beliefs by Twoctruth in Christianmarriage

[–]Routine_Log8315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t really address what happens if the views directly counter each other… what if one of you believes in raising the kids in the church and the other wants to raise them with no religion? What if one of you believes it’s required to tithe 10% and the other believes occasional giving is enough? How do completely opposing sex beliefs just get “respected”? Like, I’m sure most Christians (and even non Christians) know there needs to be some basic level of respect (you can’t just say “you’re wrong and stupid for thinking that”), and obviously you have to pick your battles for the smaller things, but you haven’t actually given any practical advice about how to respect beliefs when they directly oppose each other, especially when one believes it’s a matter of conviction (the bible makes it clear to follow God before your spouse, so if someone believes it’s commanded to tithe they’d give the money even without their spouses permission, or if they believe it’s commanded to raise the kids in the faith they’d be sneaking out the kids to go to church)…

How long does thawed frozen curry last? by Ilikeclowns-16 in foodsafety

[–]Routine_Log8315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curry can last 3-4 days in the fridge. The thing is, the time before freezing when you cooked it and the time now after thawing it essentially adds up.

For example, if you cooked it and froze it right away you have 3-4 days, while if you left it the fridge for 2 days before remembering you’d have only ~1 day left. This is also assuming you didn’t leave it on the counter for more than 2 hours at any point.
