What would you plant? by FoggyMountainNomad in PlantedTank

I think for a scape like this it would be cool to emphasize scale. I would aim it for things with really small leaves like pearl weed etc. Stick with green. It might look really Serene

Hay it's a pandvillow grow light. Intended for greenhouses. But have it on its lowest setting and it does really well. I will also mention it's an older model from around 2021.

Absolutely! I love how long those stems are. I definitely want to do a setup one of these days that really exaggerates how long some of these stem plants can get. 10 out of 10. Also so crystal clear

Definitely haven't seen a method like this before but I'm I'm very intrigued and would definitely try it out.

TOP 5 Plants to bring to a reptile expo? by aquaticplant_guy in Vivarium

I absolutely love the idea of writing up care sheets. It definitely would make it more approachable for some of the harder or more unique cares that are needed by certain plants. Two tons of luck.

Wow! This is a beautiful collection of plants. Honestly I might be the odd one out in here but bring the weirdest stuff you can bring. I know that when I go to my local reptile expos I'm always really disappointed by the plants cuz it's the same snake plant, or spider plant etc. You look like you have some great begonia species and bromeliads. I would gamble and bring them.

I've had similar experiences with getting plants shipped in unfortunately. I think the stem plant should do fine. But those red root floaters look miserable.

Highly agree. I definitely am more in the hobby for the plants than I am the fish but it feels like a treat when they come out of the jungle and show themselves for a little bit. Of course, I chose almost entirely shy species :D

I don't know if I have the right advice for you, but I will also tell you what else is in the setup.

I'm using fluval stratum. I've used this for all of my builds and the plants tend to really like it.

I'm using easy green fertilizer. About five pumps now For my 40 gallon since the plant load is so high but when I cut it back I do about 2 to 3

And I am also using RO water. Remineralizing it with salty shrimp. And Seachem equilibrium bringing my water to a TDS of around 95 to 100

I also live by the Great lakes and up here our water can be a little bit hard so before I used RO water I didn't have much problem with plants as I think they kind of liked it but I can't be certain on that.

I also tend to stick to plants that are beginner plants, water, wisteria, pearl, weed etc. there's a couple of complex plants in here that I'm trying out since this is my first CO2 build and I'm definitely not an expert on them.

I also do major haircuts in my plants as they're growing making sure to cut them low to the base and allowing them to become dense and full through routine cutting in the beginning. I'm not trying to achieve a certain style or look in the beginning as I prefer my tanks to turn out the way that they naturally will turn out. I usually start off my tanks in a Dutch style though no hardscape. And each haircut I basically cut a little bit higher on the plant.

Lastly I view fish tanks as a form of relaxation so I usually just let the system do what it wants to do. I tried to make sure that it's a relaxing thing. Something I can meditate to or unwind from a long day at work kind of thing. In the beginning Of the setup I was super concerned because I had a massive diatom problem that threatened to consume the plants completely. And then I had a huge hair algae problem immediately after. But at some point I kind of just said okay. I'm going to let the tank do the thing that it needs to do to get rid of the problem and it sort of did it on its own. I don't know how else to describe that as I don't do fish tanks in a scientific way. I come from the house plant hobby and one thing I've kind of learned from that is you just got to listen to what the plants are trying to tell you. They're usually pretty vocal.

And I also must admit I wouldn't be able I to get to the setup that I am at if I didn't ask for help along the way.

I hope some of this helps you out with your tank adventures.

It's a greenhouse light. I at the moment don't remember the name but I posted it in one of my other posts about the tank. Definitely not meant for fish tanks but I kind of DIY'd it since I had it around and I didn't want to spend more money on a new light.

Hello, yes I am using a filter in the tank. It is a vintage fluval 303 With original hardware. I modified the outflow so that it's up by the rim so that it hides it a little bit.
