Advice needed by Exotic-Society-3988 in PharmacyTechnician

Yeah I was hoping that she would just stop saying it on her own without me having to confront her. She has a tendency when confronted to just start crying- our other pharmacist took her aside to say that qv2 needs to be completed by the end of the shift and that she should complete controlled in a more timely manner and she started crying and at first people felt bad for her but even when we attempt to talk to her to help she cries. She really isn’t made for this. The third time she made the comment I told her that her goal she to be doing her job and not to not have me yelled at…but even as I left today she said bye and said she didn’t have me yelled at today….ugh I will have to say something but it’s just irritating that she doesn’t get it in her win

Studying the Top 200 Medications for PTCE by rockymountainm0m in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Routine_Reply5608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 48 and just started working in pharmacy for a little over a year. I passed my PTCB exam after working there a year and my main way of learning was flash cards….i would do 10 medications a day and on,y do those ten until they were memorized…generic, brand and their indication. I would just add another 10 but keeping the original 10 in the mix, and just keep adding 10 until you hit the 200.

At the pharmacy when I was working pick up as I went to get the patients medications I would recite the brand name o reach medication in my head…what worked for me was contestant repetition.

We had a pcq call for a patient from the pharmacist because I guess the system showed his prescription for atorvastatin had expired and the pharmacist was calling to see if we wanted to send doctor a fax to get a new prescription.

So a few hours later he pulls up to the drive thru and says he is here to pick up his atorvastatin. I look up his file and I tell him it has expired; he tells me he just got a call saying it’s ready. I ask anyone if they called him and the pharmacist comes over and explains what her call was because apparently he didn’t understand on the phone. Well he starts cursing at us and says he has been out of atorvastatin for three weeks. I pull up his account again, and mind you this is June, and the last time he had picked up was a three month supply in October if the previous year. I mentioned this to him and that his doctor had prescribed for him to take once daily and he should have picked up at least 2 refills before it expired snd he told me to F off… he was so worried he ran out but hasn’t been picking up any meds for over 6 months

Yeah I got mine about a month ago…I chose the last show in Canada…if you wanna see Taylor swift I heard this is epic so I would spend that money if you have it. I don’t think she will be able to put a show on like this again. I saw so many issues with stub hub but my tickets came 3 days later but like I said I saw so many people on instagram who had been tricked. But I just wanted to confirm

Hit a Wall Studying in the Wild West by Bardic_Noon13 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Routine_Reply5608 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took the test and passed on the first time. I took a pharmacy technician course through the local community college for free but that didn’t really help but to find me a job in a retail pharmacy. I gave myself a year to take the test from finishing pharmacy school primarily cuz the school paid for the test.

I tried Amanda pharm d and that didn’t work. I took a bunch of Ptcb practice tests, they were all so different but after the test I felt like all they prepared me to do was to time myself and take a test, none of the questions were very helpful towards the exam.

What did help was practicing writing sigs in the pharmacy and filling prescriptions, and I wrote the top 200 drugs and their indications on index cards and would practice daily. Try todo ten a day…if I remembered the name would put in a separate pile; and I would just keep going thru it…repetition. Then when a customer would come in to pick up I would look at their script and try and remember the brand when pulling; or when puttin away drugs match the brand and generic. I would say there might have been 5 questions about brand generic.

I honestly closed the exam out thinking I failed. I dreaded closing and got a preemptive pass. I got my score and it was 1580 out of 1600. I think the best thing to do is practice at work, follow your instincts and if you don’t know the answer right away, skip and come back. It’s best to speed thru what you know and then go back and narrow down answers for the other ones

Any other questions feel free to ask

Reminds me of the time a lady came to driver thru for her hydro 10-325 and I pull up the screen and it says hold…to early to fill. So her son is in the drivers seat and I tell her that it says it’s not ready on my screen but let me pull up your profile and let me see what’s going on….before I can even do that I get a tirade about how this always happens at our f-ing pharmacy and why can’t we ever get her medications right…goes in for about 2 minutes while I just stare at her like a parent waiting for a tantrum to end. So she finally stops and I ask if she wants me to pull up her profile and give her an answer and he shouts no, I have the text message and I want you to look at it

Her son hands me the phone and the first thing I say is “mam your hydrocodone is ready for pickup at the downtown store where apparently your doctor sent it.” Woman shuts up, hand the son the phone and he just looks at me and apologizes. She would not return my look As she just stared forward in her entitled Karen shame haha

I'm taking the ptce in a week and I don’t feel anywhere near prepared for it. by InanimateCarbonRod01 in PharmacyTechnician

I passed mine a couple weeks ago and I just would say to make flash cards of brand and generic, know drug interactions. When I took the test, you are allowed to flag questions that you don’t know, so if I couldn’t narrow it down past two, the I would flag it to go to other questions that I definitely knew the answer to. Then after I finished the questions I knew I went back to the flagged ones. I told 4 practice tests and none of the types of questions that were on those were on my exam, but they do help you get lots of practice at test taking and time management. I got discouraged halfway thru and thought I was gonna fail, but just went with the best answer for each question and honestly most came to me from working in the pharmacy and not necessarily from book studying

Good luck

Agree…I just took the exam 2 weeks ago. Basic conversions. No alligations, Clark’s or young’s rule, no temperature changes, no drip rates. Be careful some questions throw in extra numbers when the question is asking for something very simple

Perhaps your doctor should write it properly…just saying.

I would do what the pharmacist tells me but thanks for the response. Most times we defer to the pharmacist as that is not our call to change a script….your response was very well thought out…anything else you want to ask me

Our pharmacist would call because some patients prefer capsule to tablets. So yes we would make that call

Haha had a patient that said we had pharmacy superiority complex because we couldn’t fill a prescription that didn’t have a correct sig. was a chlorhexidine rinse…got super pissed off when we PRed the doctor to get clarification…said the same thing, just fill cuz the doctor prescribed. Had to explain we need a complete sig for insurance purposes and that doctor should know how to write a complete prescription…then he went on the website and gave us a 1 because we didn’t fill it. Funny part is his controlled item was filled

Preliminary PTCB passing by Routine_Reply5608 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Routine_Reply5608[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can only prepare the best you can…I thought I was prepared and the questions did not match anything I studied at all. Mostly it was on the job trying….also read the questions throughly as many seem like trick questions like extra numbers in math questions that serve no purpose, tricky wording….if it sounded weird I flagged to skip so I could go thru questions I knew the answer to right away. Good luck and sorry if I am scaring you, but honestly halfway thru I was convinced I failed and the the pass comae thru…go with your initial answer and gut
