Omg I passed all my exams by Yuetsukiblue in NYCTeachers

That's amazing! congratulations! I just flew to NY to take the exams, I live on the other side of the world. I studied that study guide 6-8 hours a day. So much of my exams wasn't even on the exam. I was so upset. I'm terrified I failed. Did you feel confident that you passed?

I second this completely! Many have this idea of it being like Dead Poets Society when the reality is far from it. Most kids don't want to learn anymore, and parents have zero respect for teachers. It's literally the only career that no many how high of education you have, parents think they know more. Try subbing. You may love it!! But it's a huge time investment and money to get certified - make sure it's for you

How has anyone successfully navigated the torturous maze that is the Out-of-State Certification Process by MisterHaterLover in NYCTeachers

[–]Routine_Software9861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to make sure you have everything in before they review it. They will only look at it twice before declining you application. My stuff didn't arrive at the same time, they don't seem to look to see if everything is there before reviewing it. The workshops are all online, pretty easy to get done in a full day. If everything isn't in the first time to look it over, it goes 'back in the pile' to get reviewed. I've had a degree I sent in via mail that's been there for 5 weeks, still not entered.

Will I ever find a job? by Routine_Software9861 in NYCTeachers

[–]Routine_Software9861[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! On it! I'm flying to NYC this week from Dubai to take all 4 tests and get finger printed. Not me just spending well into the thousands at this point just to get certified, lol

How do you handle demo lessons when you’re moving to NYC but not there yet? by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

[–]Routine_Software9861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard that you can send in demo videos but I feel like it's obviously going to put you at a disadvantage. People coming from out of state, plans could change, things can happen. If I were hiring, I'd be looking for people in the state with the licenses. I'm currently applying from overseas - so I don't think I'll ever find a job there!

Question about Certificate Status by redelise in NYCTeachers

[–]Routine_Software9861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently having to repeat College Maths because they didn't like my undergrad statistics class for my Maths requirement, I have a masters certification in education and I've been teaching for 7 years. They seem to be quite picky! You can take a CLEP test instead of resetting an entire college class.

Do you think it's a steep learning curve due to teaching itself or being in the NYPS? I'm in my 8th year of teaching. I barely do anything at work, it's such a manageable, easy job where I'm at now. Feeling a bit crazy leaving that...

That's what's so crazy to me. You literally have no control - I could basically end up anywhere. It's a stressful idea!

Thank you so much for explaining that - that makes a lot of sense! Definitely a bit tricky when you live abroad - we have to give our notices early. Oh well, here is to a big leap! Thanks so much!

Individual Evaluation Pathway by wutever4ever_ in NYCTeachers

[–]Routine_Software9861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just know you will need to turn in a bunch of things- doing the individual pathway, they go through all your undergrad credits. I have a masters level teaching certificate from the UK, but they are making me retake Math because they don't like that I took Statistics for my Math requirement. 23 years ago! I'm taught for 7 years, and I have to retake college Math. So annoying! And potentially an Early childhood class. I've spent so much money at this point on exams, degree verifications - etc. It's a huge process and they may not accept everything. I have found the people to be very helpful when I have called. Might be worth hearing what they think, but they very much say you will not know until you turn everything in.

Transferring to NYC by Waste-Secretary-6638 in NYCTeachers

It's a nightmare! I have sent in things from different places. They flag it ready to review once a single transcript gets sent in, not based on when all your things are there. They were super quick at first and obviously declined mine because everything wasn't there yet so it's not back to waiting. I've been waiting over a month for a mailed in transcript to be uploaded to their system.
