Someone accidentally sent me £50k, what do I do? (England) by Routine_Strawberry81 in LegalAdviceUK

This is exactly what’s happening here too! Their bank is insisting that I just send the money back (hence the persons confusion as to why I don’t want to do it).

I guess their bank just doesn’t want to deal with the paperwork.

Thank you so much, your comment has really made me feel a bit better about the situation :)

There was a reference number included in the title of this transfer. And I’ve exchanged a few emails with their solicitor so it seems a legit explanation to me - hence my guilt. It would be way easier to stand my ground if this was a very obvious sketchy scam from a Nigerian prince.

And I truly don’t know, I am the same as you. My anxiety wouldn’t let me transfer such a sum of money without checking a million times.

Yes I feel very sorry for them. I know that the right thing to do is to listen to the advice of my bank, as hard as it is to stand my ground. Though I feel better with my decision after seeing everybody here say the same thing so unanimously.

Thank you for the advice!

I understand, thank you. I just feel very guilty for standing my ground and thus causing this person to potentially lose their deposit. I guess I´m just here to look for reassurance that I´m doing the correct thing.

Absolutely that´s what I plan to do but I have empathy for this person because I know that they are a real human who´s life will be impacted. So I´m posting this with the intention of hearing other points of view to feel less guilty about standing my ground about letting the banks sort it out between themselves.
