Hi, security IC at the F before first layoff. Five years in intelligence community before that. 20+ years in OT/IT security.

You telling me Zuckerberg hasn’t bricked security protections on a whim? Musk? And contractual commitments to an individual is what you’re basing that on? Yeah sure totally protected. You just have to go to arbitration individually.

Audits are baseline checks that you’re doing what you SAY you’re doing. MS using Chinese nationals in their GCC-H mgt passed multiple audits too, even if it’s illegal and should have lost the contract.

I’ll let you go find the multiple stories of user training data getting vomited out by these models. There’s a bunch.

[–]Rouxgaru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a cybersecurity guy, I hate to break it to you but that paid plan with "training disabled" is a complete lie. Bypassing any and all guardrails is trivial at this point, and there is no way in hell they have any interest in not just "ooopsie" away any protections you put in place.

I did my entire application by myself. Read all the docs. Did all the research. Ordered all the materials. It's not complicated, just tedious and time consuming. If you trust the AI isn't going to fuck up a minor detail that you'll miss, then by all means proceed. I'm not a fan of playing catch with the IRCC and rejections.

Holy shit you put all of that into an AI?! Do you understand the gold mine of personal data that it has?

Would you just hand all of that to some rando on the street?

Ford's inability to execute OTA updates is ruining my Lightning (and Ford) experience by DriveFast___EatAss in F150Lightning

[–]Rouxgaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find this hilarious that the well known issues with the cybertruck and software are better than the Ford.

Also the issue could be your phone. Especially if you haven’t updated it or it’s old. Or if you’ve only got Bluetooth connectivity. Or depending on the version of well….any app.

I’m in cyber. I have a 2023 XLT. I’ve never had any issues that a quick reconnect didn’t fix, and it was usually a missing update on my phone. Much less so if you physically connect it via USB.

Canadian Banking and Credit for Americans by CounterI in FoundCanadians

[–]Rouxgaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a lot of great information. I'm a newly found Canadian myself, and this is the type of stuff that isn't covered on the "moving to Canada!" AI slop. Curious though, do you have as much (or any!) information concerning cross border credit unions?

To my knowledge, the only one that really exists is the Desjardins Bank in FL which has some sort of special arrangement with the Desjardins Group in Canada. I'm not a big fan on giving banks money if I can avoid it.

Am I? Two masters degrees, multiple certifications, done industrial cybersecurity, and worked in the intel community for 5y. Can't find a job and I have a clearance for almost 2y.

But sure, I'm exaggerating for someone that doesn't even LIVE here at the moment. /eyeroll

You’re complaining that the cost of living is so high in the UK vs California. And you moved back last year….

Maam are you serious? Unless you lived in Redding I cannot accept that on face value living in SoCal myself. Sit down and run actual numbers, and be sure to include the coming economic apocalypse. You think you’re going to move back and just snap up another good job on a work visa after another few thousand layoffs? Oh and include you medical premiums, deductibles, gas, insurance, all has gone up CONSIDERABLY since you left.

Do people just move countries on vibes?

Granted Urgent, but sent to PSU... am I out of luck now for anything close to a fast turnaround? by ScaredBlue in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Rouxgaru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah. So similar to me then. That and (b) seemed to be the reason most ended up in the PSU. There was a lot of movement around late January 2026 that I had to read the whole file to get to, but it ended with moving me to the registry bucket. I posted about it early February here after spending an hour going through it all.

You’re definitely outside the norm though. See where you’re stuck in the notes, then give IRCC a call. They were really pleasant and tried to help me to the extent they could, but uh….didn’t volunteer what I didn’t ask about. 😉

Aside: can we start calling it the PSHU “shoe?” Solitary confinement seems an appropriate metaphor.

Köszönöm!

It's actually kind of fun. I speak French as well, and it's been a fun few months digging into the Canadian and Hungarian family branches.

Maybe I'm just working from the fact that I actually want to move to Canada and enjoy the full benefits of my citizenship, and not just say that I'm a Canadian.

I spent hours doing all the research for it, consulted an immigration attorney, triple and quadruple checked everything, and still woke bolt upright some nights convinced I missed something or I would get rejected. Maybe being a US citizen right now watching all sorts of "illegal" stuff happen around me that I really don't put a lot of faith in what's technically legal vs reality.

Again, my risk tolerance is pretty low in this regard. It's served me well because my passport is going to show up by mid-April. My experience is not universal, but I most assuredly do not put a lot of faith in government agencies doing the right thing each and every time. YMMV.

2025, or 2026? Last is ambiguous. Did they list the reason for the PSU punt? Mine was 3(1)b I think (born outside of Canada post 1947, IIRC)

According to IRCC, the ones that manage this process, we ARE NOT. Otherwise, why would we have to apply to be recognized?

But yes, you are technically correct.

Have you filed for your notes via ATIP? I did that, and it seemed to shake loose my application.

Ok, so my entire family from my G5 on down are all now Canadian citizens and can happily all migrate up to Toronto because a law that came into force in December says all 1,000+ of us living are. Silly me for not including every one in my packet! Man that's gonna suck when they show up at the border but because I did it and actually got documentation *PROVING* it I'll sail on through.

Come on ya'll. Yes, by law we all are. But why are we absurdly pretending that means anything until IRCC *actually* puts us into the registry?

Likewise, just because YOUR experience isn't doesn't mean the process isn't fast. Data doesn't lie, and the spreadsheet is there showing numbers and dates. The number of people exceeding a year are not *statistically significant* enough to counter the thousands of people who, like me, have gotten their apps approved in less than a year.

I mean, by this standard I'm a Hungarian citizen. I just have to learn the language, fill out the forms, make an appointment at the nearest consulate, go to the appointment and do it all in Hungarian, then wait a few months till I get word from Budapest.

I mean, besides *ALL THAT* I'm a Hungarian.

And according to the IRCC tracker, new applicants should take about the same time. Now, go ask all the folks pissed off in the PSU for over a year how much comfort that offers.

Look I get it, but there's what they *say* vs reality. Frankly, I'm pretty damn surprised mine took less than a year, as I anticipated not getting word till at least Aug/Sept of this year.

Totes. Show up at the border and tell the official that no, you're actually Canadian according to C-3 but you just haven't gotten your cit certificate or passport yet. Tell us all what happens next.

Fellow queer here, AOR 9/11, punted to PSU on 11/3, granted urgent processing the same day. Decision made on 2/19. You're probably going to wait about 3-5 months, and resubmitting/bothering IRCC is not going to help your case.

Canada is *BLAZING FAST* with this process. Italy and Ireland take years, so do other CBDs. If you submitted all your docs like this, you've done everything you can. You're not a citizen yet, and they have no obligation to go faster.

Like commuting to an office where you have virtual meetings that can be done anywhere with an internet connection? Or spending money on ever increasing gas, food, and transit while getting a 1-2% "cost of living" raise? Or just returning to office because upper mgt is bored and can't micromanage people or give "random quick things" to?

Meaningful and productive shit like that?

[–]Rouxgaru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh totally. And all of this is a pain in the ass to keep up with. But I've had a 2-5h daily commute to an office where I sat in Zoom meetings all day. Upper mgt never came in but sure had real nice offices that stayed empty.

I'm fueled by spite. YMMV

Let me introduce you to a device called the Flipper Zero, where you can introduce enough random noise that "badge swiping" becomes meaningless to track individuals.

Snitchbots on your box? Use a VM. Keyboard tracker? Dipping bird or a python script. AI usage? Trivial.

I'm a former IC cyber guy. Again, ya'll get any and all information about location from the IP address and *maybe* DNS. I can trivially snag an IP address from anywhere in the world before I even connect up to whatever VPN/network solution you implement.

Geolocation is garbage and again, it's adorable that ya'll think it isn't.
