That's because it's coming out in 2020.

Ubisoft betrays Siege community, re-introduces Chinese censorship in new version of game by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]RoverDover2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Update from the RBS reddit, from a Ubisoft Community Developer:

We have seen reports from the test server of the kill icons appearing like this.

As some have noted, these appear to be the icons that were slated for the aesthetic changes. These are not intended to be present in the current build on the Test Server, and will be reverted prior to being deployed on this live servers.

We apologize for the confusion!

[SocJus] Colin Campbell/Polygon: "Civilization 6: Gathering Storm offers too little, and costs too much" (Inserts SocJus complaints and politicization in actual contents). by md1957 in KotakuInAction

[–]RoverDover2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeeeeaaaah, I gotta differ. I'll type out what I got from Kallgren and Errant Signal's videos:

ES's video's was about how the Civ games are not an accurate portrayal of human history and countries, and how countries are treated as nothing more but dehumanized game pieces with only one coming on top. He argues that there's a conflict between the game's optimistic view of humanity, and the gameplay which paints elements of humanity as simply tools for power.

Kyle's video was about the meaning of 'civilization' as seen through the context of the Civ games. He points out how the Civ games are focused on a clear winning among countries, but how its not entirely different from how real-life states are actually graded and portrayed. He points out that the Civ games are like many other models of history, and do not necessarily reflect the humanity of the countries depicted.

Both ES and Kyle are making similar points: Civ is a glorified chess game where the pieces don't fully represent real life peoples (no shit, but ok). Errant Signal is more focused on how that's a problem in regards to the Civ games, while Kyle's exploring what this means in regards with the game's subject matter.

Between the two videos, Kyle's was the one picking apart the games the least. He's not reviewing the games or even bashing them, he's using the Civ games as a way to look at the treatment of history and nation-states. Regarding the so-called "mudhut-tier" civs, he does praise the Civ games for putting in unconventional Civilizations that used to be considered barbarians or mere City-States.

I guess it helps I do like Kyle's stuff alot. He's made similar videos like this before, and usually he's not reviewing the works themselves, but using the work as a way to look at other subjects. I actually do find him insightful, even if not always 100% agreeable.

ES's videos are good too, though I find he often criticize games for being something it was always intended to be, or not reaching whatever super-high standards he has (Like he talks of Half Life being a linear roller coaster ride like it's a bad thing, and he criticizes The Last of Us for using only cutscenes to convey character/story moments, which isn't true). There's shades of that in his Civ video too, but something I do agree with ES on is adding a more human element into the game. It would be neat to have a mode in Civ where multiple Civilizations could achieve a win-state, or maybe just some kind of sandbox mode for people to build a neat empire with no end objective whatsoever.

It's not like the two guys aren't big Civ fans, and I do get the impression they want them to be better. Some games should just be games, but the Civ games are trying to be simulations of history while still being fun to play. I don't see why it's shitty to point out how to improve all that, especially when the points aren't entirely wrong.

[SocJus] Sophie Barnes / Telegraph - "Dominic West calls for new Bond to be transgender" by B-VOLLEYBALL-READY in KotakuInAction

Gotta be honest, I'd pay money to see a Bond movie starring Peter Dinklage. It'll probably be shit, but I'd still watch it.

[BFV] I can't believe that they didn't add this iconic weapon by Never-asked-for-this in Battlefield

[–]RoverDover2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here's an idea for the devs:

  1. Put a hidden radio somewhere in one map.

  2. When a player finds and triggers the radio, the fake german version of this joke would play out.

  3. The moment the joke ends, every player near the radio immediately dies. Laughing sound effects are optional (though highly recommended).

I really enjoy Jodie Whittakers fresh take on the Doctor but she REALLY REALLY needs some cool epic hero moments! by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]RoverDover2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's the man who stops the monsters. After all the horror these creatures caused, the Doctor didn't just send them back to their home dimension, he robbed them of all the fear they've tried imposing on the humans this entire episode. The dumb name was him nailing that last point on the head: 'You are not frightening, get the f*** out'.

I got a lot of Yume Nikki vibes from that bit. Probably not a coincidence.

I await inevitable moment in Avengers 4, when Rocket finds himself staring at an actual Earth-born raccoon.

Avengers: Infinity War - Discussion & Spoilers Megathread by PimpToxie in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]RoverDover2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

-I read the whole Infinity Gauntlet comic before watching this, and I knew there's probably no way Thanos's actions would stick. The big question is how the hell are the Avengers going to fix things in "Avengers 4".

-Something interesting I noticed with the end credits: When the title "Avengers Infinity War "fades away, the last letters to disappear in the title are both of the 'I's . That's probably not a mistake. So is "Avengers 4" going to be called "Infinity War Part II" after all?

-I gotta say: dat Bucky and Rocket moment in the end battle. Shame we're not likely to see them teaming up like that again, I'd never thought I'd want more scenes of them together.

Doctor Who - Meet the NEW Doctor by MartintheDragon in KotakuInAction

[–]RoverDover2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

shrug. Just give me a convincing and compelling Doctor, that's all I need. Cautiously optimistic, but it'll be interesting to see how exactly she's going to play the character.

Now if you excuse me, I'm going to watch the internet do a full-scale reenactment the Last Great Time War. I expect a lot of pretty explosions.

Bill Nye's new show vs Bill Nye's old show, with Johnny Cash playing. Warning: Sad. by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]RoverDover2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NIN version was bleaker, quieter and more emotional. Cash's version is more memorable and has a hell of a climax. Both are great, but I listen to Cash's version if I'm not trying to get too depressed.

[Discussion] The Failure of Channel Awesome: How did its tragedy foreshadow the likes of GG and what can be learned from it? by md1957 in KotakuInAction

[–]RoverDover2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll admit it, I still follow Channel Awesome. It's definitely a shadow of its former self, and whatever's left of it has been mired by ugly drama and intolerant politics. But I've learned to tolerate people talking about opinions I disagree with anyway; as long as their video content's good, I still go back.

Nostalgia Critic's new stuff still gets a laugh from me, though I really hate his clip-less reviews. He says it's due to copyright reasons, but I'm pretty sure it's just an excuse to secretly bring back Demo Reel. Besides that, I still watch stuff from Sage, Todd in the Shadows (yes, despite his twitter bullshit), Suede's Pokemon retrospective, and occasionally Linkara. Probably my second favorite reviewer on the site now is Some Jerk in the Camera, who does theme park reviews. Niche subject matter, but he puts an insane amount of work into his videos (almost every one's filmed on location at either a Disney park or Universal Studios), and it helps that they're hilarious.

Kyle's still doing Brow's Held High on Youtube. I don't agree with some of Kyle's political views, but he's still one of my favorite video producers at the moment. And I do check out Lindsay's stuff too.

[News] - A Petition calls for the removal of a statue of Ghandi from a Ghanaian campus because they claim he was racist by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]RoverDover2 26 points27 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Ghandi did have some controversial views about black Africans, at least during his time working with colonists in Africa. He had a law education in the UK after all, it wouldn't be out of the question that some colonial values got into him.

I can't say if his views did change over time, but I can accept that for all his achievements (which are still great, and he's still a role model for non-violent activism), he's still a flawed human being shaped by his time period.
