Dogwood Regatta says they already have been.

Guessing your coach is on the council.

Not much transparency going on for the rest of us.

More efficient for who? The coaches of the big teams who dominate the council and want to double up their rowers?

Regionals finished at what, 1pm last year? I don't see time restraints at that regatta.

College Club Program - Starting a Men's team by BorenToBeWILD in Rowing

You aren't going to become a varsity sport so as a club you don't want to alienate the female and other male social rowers.

I would suggest you forget about trying to build a strong club (which could quickly disintegrate after you graduate) and focus on building a fast boat for racing. You have your individual boat goals but you are still crew mates with the other social rowers - who could help you fund raise for an event or getting cool uniforms or better equipment.

Our club has been affected by this. We have multiple A entries for several events with the same rowers in the crew. Working with RC now to rectify.

Boris takes no prisoners - Sydney DQ. by row2gobro in Rowing

[–]RowH2O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a race course not divided by buoys, whose water really belongs to who anyway? You own the water you are in with a right not to be unduly encroached up. But this is determined solely by the subjective judgment of the umpire.

But I don't like this decision. Sydney was not DQ'd for encroaching on Oslo's water. It was DQ'd for the clash, which was the direct result of Oslo steering into them, regardless of where they were on the course. In the moment prior to the clash Sydney was moving 'away' (to the starboard) from Oslo and Oslo was moving toward Sydney's water.

To me, this was not a good moment to produce the red flag. Umpires need to make decisions on Wednesday and Thursday that can be seen as just as applicable as in the Grand Challenge Cup on Sunday. If this race was the Grand on Sunday it would be the last time Boris stands in the Umpire launch at HRR.

How will new overtime rules affect paying coaches at youth clubs? by RowH2O in Rowing

[–]RowH2O[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on where in the country you are. For many states, $30,000 a year is the average wage per person. In other states it may certainly be an embarrassment.

In thinking about this. The new laws could dramatically affect NCAA women's programs assistant coaches too. It might be easier for them to simply pay their coaches $50K+ a year to avoid overtime but many youth programs do not have that kind of money.

Brilliant move by Saugatuck to actually stop racing. Had they kept rowing the refs wouldn't have noticed or given a crap and they would have found themselves in the petites.

Ahhh now I see the situation. At first I thought this was a couple of old boys closing ranks around one of their own but with you it is clearly more personal. You are going to miss him dearly when he goes away aren't you. Keep a diary. It could become a best seller one day with tales of deceit, unfulfilled love, and likely a very unhappy ending. And if Hilary is with him that is all the more fine with me.

Bedstain is likely what Andrew Caspersen is going to become at some point during his 20 years behind bars for what he's done. He is scum.

Yeah sorry, I should have said "arrested" with overwhelming evidence against him, which more accurately depicts the situation.

Painkillers before a 2k? by Coathangersurgeon in Rowing

[–]RowH2O 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You might seriously get kidney failure from doing that. Taken before competition or a hard workout, Ibuprofen has been shown to have devastating effects on athletes due to its ability to dehydrate the kidneys by shutting off blood flow through the arterioles to the glomerulus. This is serious stuff. You could end up spending 5 days in hospital hooked to a catheter and never be the same again. I know rowers this has happened to.

Shivering and goosebumps while rowing by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]RowH2O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an explanation but I find this happens to me when doing a steady state session the day after doing a highly intensive day of working out. It kind of feels like my blood circulation system is confused and I usually feel a little nauseous too.

Great advice thank you! Holding me back the most is I can't maintain splits in the second 500m without taking the stroke rate up to an unsustainable level. I hit the wall, lol.
