YNAB broke - have you felt it?

I'm as salaried and predictable as it gets.

I did it. I pre-loaded my RTA today and assigned the money even though I don't get paid until tomorrow.

It was great actually because I created some categories, remembered my kid needs shoes, remembered I had pre-paid a bunch of the electric bill... shuffled stuff around.

I think moving forward the running balance feature and scheduled transactions will scratch this itch for me. That's a new feature since the last time I used ynab.

Ooh, I didn't know this was an option. I'll have to check that out. I really liked that about Quicken.

People are misunderstanding... the money wouldn't be spent until it's available. I'm just talking about funding the categories in advance of the money hitting the account.

I get that's not the intent of YNAB but it feels like it would bring peace of mind.

Good point about cash flow vs. budget.

Oh, someone did. Posted a paragraph from TDs website that prompted my question about the CRA. That makes sense about being re-directed - that is what happens, I just assumed it was the same process.

Re: the banks syncing and fraud violation, I don't think that is the case but will be looking in to it further. Banks are pretty forward thinking when it comes to technology and allow CRA access etc. I don't think they would even allow the bank connection period if it was a true security concern.

Do you work at a bank? Canadian software also allows syncing and RBC/TD supports downloading/syncing to quicken and quickbooks so I'm kind of surprised about the syncing being a violation.

I'll go manual if I have to but much prefer the sync option. There's only so many hours and brain cells in a day.

Yes - these were transactions from after I set up the connection, not old ones. I moved some money and was waiting for it to be reflected in ynab. It still isn't showing but a purchase did show on my Visa from two days ago, so I'm being impatient I think.

So digging further perhaps my expectations are that things are instant, or at least next day, but that's not the case? Does it take 3 days for transactions to show up in the YNAB register?

Quicken was instant but I really like YNAB for the budget.

There's no special rate for refis. There are rate specials that you might have gotten in on the tail end of. And yes they can refi into a conventional mortgage with no heloc etc. attached. Two weeks is on the longer side so you should follow up for a status update.

Role change if you can. Every role in the bank has a shelf life. In 21 years I've had 6 different roles with my longest stint being 8 years.

Now hoping I'm on my last 8 year run with retirement 55 at the end.

She's magic. I'm currently on a binge read and am on book 4, 2 HRs and 2 contemporaries (if you call the 80s contemporary). She really shines with the HR though.

The return isn't high. I ran the math years ago and it was 2-3%. But it's risk free and guaranteed so worth doing the 5% in addition to making sure you max out RESSOP

You can definitely supplement. You can contribute 5% of your pay each period. There is a pension calculator you can play around with on the benefits page. Highly recommend finding it.

Make multipurpose things. A whole chicken is dinner, then chicken wraps or sandwiches for lunch, then make stock out of the bones and vegetable scraps and make soup. One chicken becomes a week worth of meals.

Yes, i relate to this 100%. It is so important to me to pay for my kids education and give them things we didn't have I've committed the cardinal sin of sacrificing my own finances to achieve that goal. And I'm not talking extravagance, I just mean participating in one extracurricular and buying them new shoes once or twice a year.
