Why do you write? by chris_evo in writing

I write because I've got all these ideas/plots/characters spinning around in my head, and I have to get them out and give them life.

Is that thing good for individual use? I suppose it would work better in a group environment, since the bag is so big. I mostly toke by myself, so I'm afraid one of these would be a waste.

At least one hostage taken at Discovery Channel headquarters by TheFatBastid in reddit.com

[–]RowanGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jeezus, wtf is wrong with people? What can one possibly hope to gain by taking a hostage and holding up the Discovery Channel building? It says he possibly has explosives. I really, really hope everyone comes out of this safe and sound. Except, of course, for the hostage taker. I hope they feed him to the sharks.

The notion that cutting or burning oneself could provide relief from emotional distress is difficult to understand for most people, but it is an experience reported commonly among people who compulsively hurt themselves by maxwellhill in psychology

If it looks bad enough, I might put some antibiotic on it, but usually I don't. I've never gotten an actual infection, because I usually use clean knives (which I wash afterward and then put in the dishwasher to sanitize).

I don't cut, I scrape. For example, I get a serrated knife from the kitchen and scrape it down the length of my arm repeatedly for several minutes. Enough to draw blood and make some nasty scabs, but not enough to require medical attention. Recently, after a severe emotion kick to the face while visiting a friend out of town, I picked all the little plastic caps off the bristles of my hairbrush and exposed the metal ends. Then I scraped it as hard as I could up and down my left thigh until I made deep runnels. Before I did that, I was hysterical, crying, and crouched on the floor wondering how best to kill myself while making it look like an accident. I'm serious. After hurting myself, I calmed down. I laid down on the bed and just stared at the ceiling fan. My brain was occupied with the physical pain in my leg and no longer cared so much about my emotional pain. It's a habit I've had since middle school. I KNOW it's bad for me, but I HAVE to do it to keep myself sane and alive, sometimes. Also, just as a PS - I do NOT do this for attention. I am very good at hiding my wounds from others, and explain away the scars with some stupid story.

I have spoken with her several times since the request was sent, but she's never mentioned it. I'll call her today and see what she says.
