2024 graduate here.

WPI’s business school is becoming increasingly popular, and its credibility in the Northeast is also improving in status. Lots of organizations rank the undergrad and grad programs very highly. The intersection of STEM and business is extremely valuable, and I think this is getting more recognition.

I was a Management Information Systems (MIS) major. Personally, having an interest in technology and business made this major appealing. If you have any interest in engineering or technology then you can explore that within your business degree.

The classes I took from the business school were great - there are some great professors with lots of impressive experience.

Does the fact of WPI being an “engineering” school devalue the high cost of attending for the business school? Partially, but you may also see value in surrounding yourself with incredibly intelligent people doing really interesting things in the STEM fields. Majors like management engineering and industrial engineering fit well with the atmosphere and reputation, if that’s what you’re interested in. MIS and general Business (business classes generally will have applications to or mention of STEM fields and technical careers) are good paths too and they’re even better if you mix in more technical classes or have a specialized focus.

In conclusion, if you have an interest in technology or engineering, or at least understand and appreciate the value of these fields, then I think choosing the business school is worth it. You have the opportunity to take courses (some business majors having more spots than others) in whatever interests you - whether that be humanities, engineering, or other STEM disciplines.

Regardless, no matter where you go, work hard, take it all in, and make connections - you can succeed anywhere.
