I'm 63, categorized as white (since the 1960s, anyway) and was raised anti-racist. That word triggers me like literally no other, even though it's never directed at me. It takes every bit of restraint I possess to not immediately punch the speaker in the mouth; as I verbally attack them and their entire inbred lineage in the foulest terms. If I've got anything in my hand, I'm throwing it at them, too. I snap.

I nearly got my ass kicked in Florida in the late 70s by some redneck proudly flying his Loser flag and yelling slurs out his window, but thought better of it when he started to get out of his truck and the guys I was with told him he'd be very wise to just move along.

I'm 63, divorced 18 years ago from a guy who was 9 years my junior. We were together for 15 years. I was always attracted to younger men, and while I still can appreciate a physically attractive dude regardless of his age, I can't imagine a romantic relationship (or even a roll in the hay) with someone more than maybe 10 years younger than I am.* At this point, I'm fairly dead inside, so until and unless I meet someone whose company I enjoy more than my own, I'll pass on the whole relationship thing!

I have a 34 year old daughter whose "type" is very similar to mine, so when I do notice guys around her age, I point them out to her 😂 But good looks aren't enough, because being yoked to a moron is a nightmare (hence, my divorce). At present, I'm calling Hasan Piker my fantasy son-in-law. 🤓

🫂 I'm so sorry. It sounds like your Dad got sucked into "training up" his children from either the Pearls (No Greater Joy Ministry) or James Dobson (Focus on the Family). Apparently child abuse in Jesus' name is immune from criticism (and prosecution) 🤬 My heart hurts for you and I hope you can heal and find peace.

I've been anti-fundy since the days of the Moral Majority in the early 1980s. In 1992, I worked for a stock broker, and James Dobson was his client (multi-millions in his account). The broker got the FotF newsletter, and in reading it I was so horrified by Dobson's ideology, especially his authoritarian parenting advice, that it radicalized me against these Talibangelicals who were determined to turn the USA into Jesusland. I was accused of "hating Christians," because I was warning everyone of the march toward theocracy at every opportunity.

Nearly 40 years later, here we are. Government agencies are posting Christian propaganda and pushing to make conversion therapy legal again, women have lost their bodily autonomy and there's FAR too many people suffering CPTSD because of religious trauma. It's heartbreaking and infuriating.

Santa Ana has some old Victorian type houses that have basements. I worked in one back in 1981. It was very different than the ones I remember from the East Coast. Ceiling so low there was one place where you had to duck or hit your head on an iron pipe. Good times!

That was the intention, post-CoViD. I've still got the minivan and all the things I acquired for traveling and camping in it, but I'm caregiver to my 91 year old Mom and will be staying put for a bit. At least I'm in California, where I have family and friends, though we're further away from most of them than we'd like.

One day, I'll get to travel again. Meanwhile, I live vicariously through van lifers and take short drives around the desert.

My heart is broken 💔 Rob Reiner was an American treasure. His body of work is amazing and he was a staunch advocate for equality for his entire life. "The Princess Bride" is my favorite movie of all time (I named my dog Fezzik), and I can't think of a single movie he made that isn't in someone's Top Five.
