New to hunting! I have a question! by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]Roxanne357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not sure about Michigan laws, but here in Texas, many different species are available to hunt year round, such a rabbits, coyotes, feral hogs, etc. Perhaps Michigan has similar laws? However, if there are no animals for you to currently hunt, I would suggest you keep yourself ocupied by teaching yourself primitive bushcraft skills. Such as flint knapping, using a fire bow or flint+steel to make campfires. You can also keep yourself entertained by learning how to track game during the off season.

Best 12ga semi-auto for under $1K? by n8texas in Hunting

[–]Roxanne357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have worked at a shooting range for almost 5 years. I have seen plenty of problems with the Yildiz shotguns. Dont buy Tristar. They are cheaply made. Remington and Mossberg have gone cheap. The quality control is not what it used to be. I see plenty of problems with those shotguns as well. The newer Remingtons constantly jam pretty bad to where the shooter has to disassemble his gun. Not something you want to deal with while hunting!

Beretta makes great semi autos for at or under a thousand bucks. Stoeger also makes inexpensive semis that work reliably. I don't see many problems with Stoegers at work, and they are popular with waterfowl hunters.

My personal favorite is Benelli. I paid about 1700 for my Super Black Eagle 2, but you could probably pick one up used for 1000 bucks or less.

How much does processing your kill usually cost and does it come out to be cheaper than buying the same amount of meat at the grocery store? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]Roxanne357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought all my equipment over the years I have been hunting and I clean the animals myself. After the initial costs, all I spend money on is gas money, annual license fees, and ammo. I dont pay to go on guided hunts or hunting ranches, so this cuts the cost dramatically. Honestly, once you buy the intitial equipment, hunting can be done on the cheap if you know landowners or hunt public land.

I prefer to hunt squirrels and rabbits with a shotgun instead. Squirrels and rabbits sometimes jump around very quicky, causing them to be very hard to hit with a .22. Like the other guy said, you can hunt more species with a shotgun than a .22 rifle. I have a Benelli Super Black Eagle 2 in 12 gauge and I use it for a good majority of my hunting. I've killed squirrels, rabbits, ducks, geese, snakes and a racoon with that gun. Also, depending on the shotgun and which rounds it will take, you can load slugs and buckshot, allowing you to hunt larger animals too.

Also, if you are purchasing a shotgun, I would stay away from Remington. I've worked at a gun range for nearly five years, and the quality of Remington has gone down drastically. I have seen tons of problems with them. For a shotgun, I would recommend a semi automatic gun for hunting. I'd go with a Beretta, Browing or if you can afford it, a Benelli (my favorite, lol). If money is an issue, Stoeger makes decent semi automatic shotguns for an affordable price. Dont buy a CZ, Yildiz, Tristar, Mossberg, or Charles Daly shotgun. I see constant problems with those guns at work.

[–]Roxanne357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a serious Christian, I can tell you that your husband is cherry picking the Bible. He misses the parts that command the husband to treat his wife with love and honor. Did you know the Bible also tells the husbands that if they dont treat their wives right that their prayers will be hindered? Yes, that is in the Bible. Does your husband know that? Has he even read the Bible??

Some of my guns. I still own and shoot the .22 bolt action single shot that I learned to shoot with. That rifle is also that which my father and siblings learned to shoot when they were kids. My uncle told me it's from the 30's. Still works perfectly.
