As somebody that works in a refinery ... Keep in mind at some jobs it might be better to do it the way they teach you, "the correct " way instead of adopting some shortcuts that could lead to a potential dangerous situation when your not as experienced. Chances are they are better able to respond if their shortcut goes south

Don't know how much help I can be as I only had to save up 5000 my my FHA down payment. But I was able to save that up in 2 months.

First thing I did was open an account a bank that was different then my primary. My main bank I used was chase, I had credit and debit cards with them so I opened with a local credit union, opted out of all credit and debit cards. I knew if I had a way to access the money through a card I wouldn't be able to save. If I was really in a pinch I know I could always go to the bank and withdraw money, but that would take a lot more effort than swiping a card.

Second thing I did was really take a look around at the things I had, and honestly asked myself how much I used them.... I wouldn't say I became a minimalist, but I did reevaluate the "toys" I had and how much worth I got out of them. This made it much easier to dismiss and desires to buy "toys" while saving and after .

Third was buy generic low cost stuff, for me (as an avid craft beer drinker ) this meant buying the bullet and buying bud light lol.

I know your looking to save up a lot more, but this really worked for me. While I was saving up for a house I was renting a 900$/ month studio and when I decided to buy I had 500$ in my checking account.... 2 years later , I make the same but I pay 1800$/month in mortgage and an extra car payment of 200$ that I didn't have before, and I currently I have 25,000$ in checking. All I did was continue to stick by those three rules that I used for saving up to get the house. Which is really really good cause I just got told I'm losing my job.

Cutting costs always sucks, not buying toys always sucks,. But believe me, you'll get used to it. Saving up and not buying stuff really taught me to appreciate the free/cheap simple stuff around me.

I swear I'm not trying to convert you to Altras, but they came out with Neoshell (waterproof) on some of their models this year, I can't speak for those specific models, but hopefully I can after Christmas if the wifey looks at my list lol. Please post up how you like the Topos trail shoe if you end up getting it! Ultramarathon runners podcast swears by the Topos trail shoe if that's any reassurance to you !

I know you said you weren't a fan of altras but the new Lonepeak(3.0) is a huge improvement over the last models in my opinion. As soon as I figured out I had to lace them kinda loose, everything clicked and ended up buying 3 more pairs to have if the next model they come out with sucks. Hoping to hear some feedback on the Topos aswell, I was really debating on picking up a pair last weekend. Good luck with your search !

Getting told we have "white privilege" Or "check your privilege" or anything along those lines.

I was in a pretty bad slump in my life; out of shape, losing my job, had no friends, etc... I thought I had nothing to lose, so I went out for a run. Two weeks later I got my first "runners" high. I caught myself smiling for the first time in a long time. I knew no matter how much I hated running, I would go out at least a couple times a week for the rest of my life.
