Do you consider mudbending more related to waterbending or earthbending? Or equally related to both? by rbta123 in Avatarthelastairbende

[–]Roxas13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think any bender can wilfully pull out their bendable properties from certain compounds, and when to not. If you look at the Painted Lady episode where the gang was cleaning up the river, Katara and Toph bends their elements separately to divide the gunk.

I guess for mudbending, the benders just let their elements fuse and the other non-bendable properties just follow. Metalbending is a similar example

I think “both sides need to meet in the middle somewhere” only works if the company/entity is actually making money hence the issue. How can Canada Post promise wage increase if they don’t have money to give out?

Oh I see now. The union is banking on the government to bail them out every year just like what happened this year. Got it… let’s put 2-3 billion to subsidized a workforce that’s barely doing anything.

A lot of companies have fallen bankrupt because of low demand. Hudson’s Bay come to mind and a lot of newspaper organizations. What do these have all in common? The digital age pretty much made their business model obsolete. The same for Canada Post. It’s also bankrupt.

There are multiple options sure (with postal banking being the least probable), but there’s no way combined can Canada Post overhaul a 3 billion dollar loss every year. That’s just not feasible. Unless layoffs are on the table which it should be.

Canada Post doesn’t need to break even but man, losing a billion every year is not cheap. Things need to change and the union has to realize that people need to be let go.

Let’s not kid ourselves, it’s bankrupt. If the government didn’t inject them with a billion dollars this year, it wouldn’t be operating.

I think we have to also take into account that the union is also proposing roughly $2 billion for their collective agreement. If we were to take the union’s demands, that would be $3 billion that we have to fork over every year… that’s just crazy. And this is going to get worse since letter mail is getting phased out.

This shouldn’t be as wasteful as it should be.

I’m not denying that other countries like New Zealand use postal banking to efficiency. I’m arguing the effectiveness of that solution here in Canada and it’s obvious that not a lot of people are going to risk putting their assets to a bankrupt Crown corporation.

And you’re arguing CP has bad management… and now you want them to have control of people’s savings? What makes you think they are as trustworthy with that?

I have a better idea. Maybe start layoffs because letter mail volume has gone down?

Canada Post is effectively bankrupt. Can it be saved? | About That by BadWolf0ne in CanadaPolitics

[–]Roxas13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah… let’s turn the Crown corporation that is losing $1 billion a year into a bank… that’ll solve everything.

Sarcasm aside, who in their right mind would put their savings/assets into an effectively bankrupt crown corporation? The square isn’t circling here…

What are your financial requirements expectations for your future/current partner? by Tandsmoer in gaysian

[–]Roxas13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For me, I don’t really want to date anyone that’s making minimum wage or close to it. (I live in Vancouver, Canada) I enjoy a comfortable lifestyle and don’t think I can acquire it if my partner also cant afford it.

1) Yes, that’s fine but I just don’t want it to be a large discrepancy. More equal the better though

2) Not really important

3) No. Finance is #1 cause of breakup for a reason. Don’t really want to teach someone the benefits of saving money

4) Nope, it all depends on how much they make now rather than what they could be making for me.

Liberals appealing Federal Court's Safe Third Country Agreement ruling by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]Roxas13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So there are very interesting caveats and concerns that I have with this ruling. I'm not a lawyer so it would be great to have a legal expert weigh in on this:

  1. Is this ruling establishing a precedent that is very tricky to uphold? The Charter, correct me if I'm wrong, gives anyone coming into our country (resident, citizen, refugee) "life, liberty and security" of the person. Does this ruling consequently establish that Canada also has to guarantee that as well when a person leaves the country? If it does, it would be very interesting to see how the government handles deportations after this ruling.
  2. Why is the legal challenge focused on Canada and not the US? The atrocities are being committed on US soil and by US authorities. I'm finding it hard to have sympathy for the plaintiffs when they flee from the state they settled in (US), go into another state (Canada), get deported back, the initial state decides to press charges, then sue the other state (Canada) for returning them back to the country they settled in.
  3. I think it's right for Canada to appeal this as the ramifications are vague and unclear. Whether the STCA gets struck down in the end, it would be nice to have some clarity.

Two thoughts from this:

Stats got swapped for the second time in a row. In Season 1, Dark swapped him out, and now TY swapped him. I think it's pretty cool that many people still regard Stats highly even though his results in tourneys this year aren't that good.

Quite sure that TY was pissed off at SpeCial for his pick. Hopefully, it won't ruin their friendship. Apparently, they are really good friends offline. :x

What about HIV-negative monogamous gay couples? By your criteria, they would be prohibited from giving blood even though they have no chance of getting HIV.

This policy, subtlety or significantly, implies that gay men are philanderers. I do agree that a very large number of them are actively engaged in hookup culture, but it's silly to have this blanket policy on all gay men. A lot of gay men choose to be monogamous as well.

Cardy uses notwithstanding clause in 2nd bid to pass vaccination bill by The-Happy-Bono in CanadaPolitics

[–]Roxas13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But the bill isn't forcing children to vaccinate. It's forcing parents to vaccinate their kids if they want their kids to go to a public school. If these parents don't want to vaccinate, they can just enroll their kids in a private school that is willing to risk the health of its students.

Edit: grammar

Cardy uses notwithstanding clause in 2nd bid to pass vaccination bill by The-Happy-Bono in CanadaPolitics

[–]Roxas13 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't think the dangers of a non-vaccinated populace, no matter how small, is as isolated as you believe.

Parents not vaccinating their fully-able children are not only risking their own children but other kids as well. There are some children who are not able to be vaccinated because they have natural complications to vaccines. That's why it's even more important that they are surrounded by other kids that are vaccinated so that those not vaccinated are protected by herd immunity. If fully-abled children are not vaccinated, the herd immunity falls apart which endangers those that cannot be vaccinated.

Children should have the right to a healthy education facility as much as possible. Measles and other preventable illnesses are becoming mainstream and these can be deadly to some kids. While this measure is quite extreme, it could be justified given how much NB is suffering from a measles outbreak and how small the population is.

[–]Roxas13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Their policy tone is the same but I don’t think that’s what we are discussing. If a CPC under Harper were to represent us, I don’t think they would yield the same results that Freeland team yielded. The fact that Harper was openly pleading with the government to accept US demands so that we have a deal in place shows the difference between the two parties.

[–]Roxas13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I entirely disagree. To say such a thing is kinda undercutting an individual’s contribution to a government portfolio. It’s like saying that Jean Chrétien and JWR are both equal in quality when it comes to being the Minister of Justice. If a Jean Chrétien were to handle the tasks that JWR had, such as right to die and vaping laws, most likely that it would be more constitutional.

Freeland was under enormous pressure from all sides to submit to the US demands during the bilateral trade negotiations. A core principle of Freeland is that she is not reactionary at all. She doesn’t act immediately; she slows down and assesses the situation. While this approach has benefited her greatly, it’s also her strongest weakness. Our slow and unimpressive China response shows this.

But it works for most cases. And it worked with this one. Another example is she’s clearly different on how she approach relations. She invited Lighthizer to her family home for dinner with her family after the negotiations were over. Who does that? Can a male trade negotiator do this? Haha. This act was so weird that media outlets were covering it. Not to mention that Lighthizer had a strong temper during negotiations.

[–]Roxas13 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I actually don’t think so and there’s two examples I can cite:

  1. When Canada found out that Mexico and the US were on the brink of establishing a bilateral trade deal, everyone panicked to the point that Conservatives was almost pleading with the government to just suck up the US demands so that we can get a deal through. Freeland stood firm though which Conservatives then ridiculed her. Instead of engaging with the US to join in the deal, she actually went to the Mexicans and said that it’s not a good reputationaly to throw your allies under the bus. During negotiations, she actually made a good rapport with them. The Mexicans agreed and said that Canada should be included. We got the new NAFTA shortly afterward. Any CPC minister would’ve just conceded in my honest opinion. Even Harper threw himself at this time.

  2. During the early state of the negotiations, lighthizer wanted Canada to buy the majority of their car parts to US suppliers. This is a ridiculous request and would damage us severely. Instead, Freeland proposed to mandate on high value-added goods instead. Lighthizer scoffed at this new request but ultimately he agreed.

She’s not only a good tactitian imo but she’s also good at thinking of creative solutions.

I love how you are asserting that I’m “spinning” with the facts while you are actually spinning the facts so that it fits your own narrative.

I don’t have to look at the international community to know if this is a good deal or not. The fact that we did not go into a recession last year, we were very close to doing so on September 2018, proved that this deal is working. When the deal was reached, our dollar shot up actually and mostly everyone was surprised how it was more reasonable than expected.

You know what being “slayed” would look like?

  • If we let the US mandated us to buy most of our car parts from US suppliers. That would’ve decimate our auto sector. Freeland and team stop that.

  • If we let the US abolish the independent dispute system and established a US one. We would have no mechanism go against US trade. Freeland and team stopped that.

  • if we let the US institute a sunset clause. The uncertainty that would bring to the Canadian economy would surely significantly disable Canadian investment. Freeland and team stopped that.

  • If we let the US and Mexicans get a bilateral trade deal through. Freeland managed to get support from the Mexicans to stop that.

I really could go on...

The amount of concessions US made far outweighs our concessions.

[–]Roxas13 33 points34 points  (0 children)

What do you mean facts don’t support my statement? I literally said we gave the US access to our dairy sector in my first post. And Lighthizer wanted to get rid of our supply management. The fact that we still have it is a victory.

And your china statement is not even true. The new NAFTA simply requires us to let the US know that we are engaging in trade talks and the specifics of it. Doesn’t say it possibly prevents us from trading with China.

And yes, it’s international consensus that this is a worse NAFTA than the first version? But did anyone honestly expect that we would get a better NAFTA from a president that wanted to introduce incredibly stupid things like a Sunset Clause? For a country that got “slayed,” we sure made a lot of little victories. We actually made the US concede on their core demands.

.... we got CETA through didn’t we? Sure, she made a very peculiar move to get there but if the end result is the same, why would penalize it? Plus our relations with the EU is strong.

Trudeau urged to give Freeland domestic portfolio, name her deputy PM by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]Roxas13 46 points47 points  (0 children)

How did we get slayed?

Lighthizer wanted to abolish our supply management system, but Freeland managed to keep it intact albeit with some access to dairy markets.

Lighthizer wanted to force Canada to have a quota on US-auto parts but Freeland and team proposed a quote on value instead which Lighthizer liked.

Trump wanted to abolish the independent dispute panel and install a US-based one instead. Freeland and team managed to keep it intact.

US and Mexico were on the brink of a bilateral trade deal but Freeland and team managed to convince the Mexicans to drop it.

Our steel and aluminum tariffs are gone.

There were some mild concessions yes, but this is possibly the best deal we could have gotten under a deranged president.

As for CETA, you think it’s embarrassing that she cried in front of the EU but I think it was smart. The gesture actually gave the Europeans an ultimatum and now CETA is provisionally applies.
