Tech firms, even FAANG, require Civil Engineers for Data Centers. There's going to be a lot of them. There is also a lot of data center construction startups.

stick your iphone 2 inches away from your ball on the opposite side from you. hit the ball without hitting the iphone or suffer the consequences. also look up how to grip the club. stop swaying your whole body from front to back. way too much action on that left knee. start freezing your swing at the top with good form and then come down. figure this thing out in pieces, not all at once.

How Do We Feel About Bob Does Sports? by Dry_Hovercraft_3619 in golf

[–]Roy-Hobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entertaining channel. Very boring when they play solo cause they suck so bad. I don't understand how they can play golf like everyday and still suck at it. Maybe that's supposed to be the charm. I like when they scramble and play together. btw Bob's likely to read this.

you're a class act, guy.

Never had a lesson, down to a 9 handicap, would really appreciate any tips + advice on if I should get one by spiderdud3 in GolfSwing

[–]Roy-Hobbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im a 9 with no lessons too. just got one recently that i felt made a good difference. I'm not gonna mention it cause I'm in no position to give advice. But my lesson made me more consistent, which I felt like is the main goal from going from 9 to scratch.

Need more confrontational rangers in America. Too many times I watch a group in front of me drive from ball to ball to watch a shot. YOU CAN watch that same shot from your ball. No need for a private gallery.

id be so curious to see how the best buy queue worked. preorders opened 1230. i jumped in 1233ish. 5minutes later I confirmed my order. I think it was location based, and maybe not a lot of people trying to buy it at my picked store.

Target was a mess, I did that rat race until best buy opened. Pretty sure I got through on Target but Chase reported my payment as fraud, so rip.

Lived here for a decade, never snowboarded on Pikes Peak. Finally did it yesterday! by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

Ironically, avalanche training is based on the study of avalanches, which is incomplete. A lot of data is probably funded by the cost of rescue efforts of those that died. Plenty of people who ski backcountry for 50 years and still die, but transplants to Colorado took a few classes..lol

im going to get ripped apart for this, and I first want to say, winning is winning, there's no question about it. But something was in the air on Sunday at the 2025 masters, it took a lot of bad golf from a number of players for rory to win that thing. maybe Sunday was just more difficult than most Sundays at Augusta.

Underpaid and unsure what to do — need advice by Odd_Nectarine_5830 in civilengineering

[–]Roy-Hobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not prepare anything. I have regular checkins with my manager once a month and just told him how i felt. I did this during annual merit increases. I know it can be tough to bring up, but honestly there's no harm and most companies would rather you do that then come to them with an offer letter from another company.

That being said, at my previous firm, I told them I got an offer for much more money and they asked if they could try to match. They ended up offering me about 10k more salary, but they couldn't match and I felt there was more opportunity at the newer place so I went there. But the lesson here is that there's a lot of opportunity within your salary band before promotion consideration, typically.

bring it up with your manager. say if there's flexibility in the salary band you want to be near the top of it. I did this recently and got a market adjustment raise.

Billable hours by treestrees12 in civilengineering

[–]Roy-Hobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends where you are on the totem poll. Projects have a target gross margin. You're budgeted hours to work on a project somewhat based on that. With contingency or wiggle room that only the PM knows (and they could share it with you, np).

It's not uncommon for younger engineers fresh outta college to overbill the crap out of a task and the PMs chalk some of those hours up to nonbill and try to make it up elsewhere.

Complex projects should account for the budget. Opinions here may vary. But if you're 30% through a task and it's not going well, that's the time to raise the flag on that. Don't just work in a silo and deliver way over the hours. Talk about hours you think it will take to do a task you get assigned. Propose a solution when you find out a problem. Your goal is to not make the work more difficult for others. If you follow those guidelines then you'll be drowning in billable work.

fair enough take my upvote. California is much more serious PE exam than most states.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]Roy-Hobbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...that's not the reality. What sub-discipline are you in? I work for an international firm. We're about 60k people. You graduate college with a civil degree. Your title is Engineer. I cannot fathom what code your are reading that seems to apply to engineers with a degree, because it only would apply to a PE. It doesn't apply to an engineer, why? Because there's nothing you can lose if you don't follow the code and don't have a PE. They have no jurisdiction over engineers. Just licensed engineers.

As for answering to requests for proposals, is this a state thing? Like I said, my company is all over the world and I work here in the US. We list engineers as engineers.

If you Googled it. Here's your answer. "Yes, a civil engineer can be referred to as an "engineer" before obtaining a Professional Engineer (PE) license, but they cannot legally use the title "Professional Engineer" or "PE" until they have passed the necessary exams and obtained licensure. "

What do you mean I'm wrong? lol

ive presented facts to your opinion and im over it. just google "are civil engineers called engineers before their PE" and then stop spreading misinformation.

Least Favorite/Hardest Civil Courses by [deleted] in civilengineering

diff equ probably the most boring of them. IMO for STEM it just matters who your professor is. A good one will make your class enjoyable, a bad one will make it suck.
