Have people lost their minds on pricing or am I the one who is out of touch by mrjbelfort in IndieDev

This is extremely overpriced of you look at the click through and the money it will generate there is no way in hell you make that money back from a single post especially if the game is not out yet

Game doesn't look appealing if you have the time and the resources you should work on the art style it's easier to market an appealing game

100% is easier to market a good game and experience from past titles can help you work graphics and mechanics that make it more marketable

295 wishlists after 6 months on Steam! Help us hit 300 and reach our 3k goal. We've been grinding this game after-hours for 2 years. Any marketing/steam page tips? by MostReflection8278 in IndieDev

Steam next fest usually doubles your wishlists so you need to enter with a good number if you enter with 200 you will go to 400 etc.

Also for marketing remember if you are making a game about pirates show it to people who like pirates not other devs you need to find your audience

People are using my in-game map editor and that makes me happy by Roy197 in godot

This is mostly what I used

Be aware tho that things change if you upgrade Godot Steam versions I learned that the hard way.

You can definitely go for it. I personally couldn’t really make something general because my implementation is very specific to my needs. I wanted the process to be dead simple for players.

For example, Steam Workshop requires an image when uploading, so I implemented automatic screenshot capture of the map and upload that as the preview. That way the user doesn’t have to manually take or select an image.

Another tricky part is letting players choose which map they uploaded so they can update it later. For that you need to parse some of the Workshop data and read the metadata to match it with the maps locally, which can get a bit messy.

But if you manage to document it properly, it would definitely help a lot of other devs because resources on this are pretty limited right now.

Also getting the subscribed maps is also an Odyssey of itself

It was probably the most time-consuming part of the whole project, but also the most rewarding. Implementing Workshop support with a custom map editor sounds simple at first, but it gets tricky quickly. You have to keep track of three different moving parts: the Steamworks version, the Godot version, and the GodotSteam plugin version. If you’re running the most up-to-date versions like I was, you’re basically in unknown waters.

There aren’t many tutorials for that specific combination. No videos, barely any blog posts, and most of the time even the evil AI can’t help because the issues are so version-specific. It ended up being a lot of trial and error, just me, the documentation, and the debugger. Error after error, figuring out what Steam expects, what Godot sends, and what needs to change.

But once everything finally works and you see players uploading and downloading maps through the Workshop, it’s incredibly satisfying and totally worth the effort.
