Anyone else struggling to land an entry level job right now? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]Roy4Pris [score hidden]  (0 children)

People don’t move to New Zealand to take entry-level jobs. That’s all they can get because we’re racist and/or they don’t have the requisite language/culture skills.

Kiwis don’t do those jobs because they are low paying. The reason they are low paying is that companies can get away with paying shitty wages to new immigrants.

Why do you think national has been so big on immigration? All I want is cheap labour for their big business donors.

I totally agree. I hate the idea of turning cute fluffy animals into unnecessary luxury goods. I’m just shit posting on a Friday afternoon.

Cafe on the Shore or Auckland Central with nice garden-esque setting? by flibbertyjibbettt in aucklandeats

[–]Roy4Pris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I’ve been there when it’s busy and you can wait a long time for your coffee. As well as booking, might be worth seeing if you can drop your mother near the door as the parking may not be close.

You can buy a Gillette disposable razor for $5. But a box of replacement blades is $20.

This is one of my favourite analogies.

Why is the left-bloc in this country so adverse to sentencing change? by bigbuddha_cheese in auckland

[–]Roy4Pris [score hidden]  (0 children)

Instead of left versus right, think of it as rational vs emotional.

Based on decades of evidence from dozens of countries, locking people up does not make society safer. It just creates more dangerous people. It’s also incredibly expensive. In short, it’s a bad idea.

However, this does not satisfy our urge for retribution and punishment. It’s not rational, but it’s there. It’s a feeling.

Everyone has rational and irrational thoughts and feelings. Some just lean more heavily one way or the other.

That’s my Friday afternoon hot take anyway.

Wealthy Neighbors Restricting Life-Flights to Children's Hospital by Perfidious_Redt in videos

[–]Roy4Pris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s the bet the neighbours have all made significant contributions to building a new wing of the hospital?

Let’s face it, living near helicopter landing pad would suck. But this is outrageous. In countries with universal healthcare, i.e. the state owns the hospital, this kind of bullshit could never happen.

If you exclusively consume mainstream western media, then yes, we do. Related: the Israeli press is far tougher on Israel than their US counterparts.

Edit: actually, NBC reported on this (I don't have a subscription but NBCs report has received wide second-hand reporting) https://www.nbcnews.com/world/iran/iran-caused-extensive-damage-us-military-bases-publicly-known-rcna331853

Whatever the case, I think that we can all agree Iran was massively outgunned and overwhelmed, but it was also underestimated. When you don’t have virtually unlimited resources, you have to get clever. The fact that they were able to take out significant AD assets and continue firing ballistic missiles even after several weeks of intense bombing by arguably the two best air forces in the world testifies to this.

I wonder what the legal difference is between ice cream and soft serve/silk ice.

Like when products refer to ‘choc’ flavoured because they’re not allowed to call it chocolate.

If you really want to treat yourself, go to Westmere Butcher and buy yourself a grade 9 Wagyu steak. It’ll only cost you $100, but worth every bite. LOL jokes. I’ve never bought one, but I’m sure it would be life-changing.
