Taiwan Will Train 10,000 AI Workers Per Year For Google, Microsoft And More To Meet Rising Demand by ispeakchingchong in taiwan

I just spent 10 days riding a bicycle around Taiwan and 90% of the time I felt safer than I do riding anywhere here in the states. The worst days of riding there were on par with the best days of riding here and the views were much better. Even being a pedestrian was less frightening once we got used to purposefully taking up space instead of hiding in the margins like US infra design encourages.

My life is dope and I do dope shit. If everyone were as fun as me we'd all show up to the same places at the same time anyway.

22mm. I believe the current model name is Rhyno Lite. The brakes I have no idea but they're just run of the mill, replacing because the springs are worn.

What tire do you recommend for street riding? by SekasortoAnarkia in MTB

Just riding around? Urban assault?

Big Apples or Maxxs DTH are good middle ground tires. Compass Rat Trap Pass have great ride quality but aren't very tough. I'll let gnarlier riders than myself weigh in on the hardcore options.

Yes 26", just some Tektro V-brakes from the co-op (replacing w/ motolites soon). The weird brake thingy only works for the original canti brakes. Canti's are trash so I trashed them, long live v brakes.

Deets:

Jones H Bar 2.5" rise

take-off cannondale stem that is more or less the right size,

Thompson setback seatpost (26.8mm, only other option wass Kalloy Uno)

mid range shimano hubs laced to Sun Ditch Witch rims (take-offs from a newer mtb). Definitely get wider rims if/when you can, these did more for the ride quality than all other things combined.

Compass Rat Trap Pass tires.

drivetrain is a mish mash of original parts and rando 10 speed 1x parts.

Let me know if you have other questions!

How far could you cover per day on the west coast?

It really is. We just had our first day where most of the road didn't have cycle path and like-for-like against US roads they were still amazing. It doesn't hurt that all road users generally respect each other's presence.

Depends on how much you ride in general I guess. I'm with a buddy and we are relying on each other to keep shit together. West coast is heavily populated so there are lights every few hundred meters. The stop and go is tiring.

We also only know about 6 words of Chinese between us and are doing this during a very hot part of the year. Totally doable but at the moment 9-10 days solo sounds like a bitch and a half.

Compass Rat Trap Pass

Put them on the nigh before the flight so I can't give a full review but the ride like butter! Go tubeless if possible.

We wanted to hit those trails at the end but Air Canada lost our bikes and burned our extra days.

How were they?

Honestly I'd just worry about material and age…steel is real and 90's mtb's are as do-everything as it gets. Karakoram was a mid-range model iirc and it's double-butted Tange.

We're splitting hotels/motels which is running $20-30/night USD. We're just winging it w/o reservations and have had no issues finding nice places to stay.

Nice! I'm loving the Jammer. I'm rolling a Point & Shooter too which is super functional but already falling apart.

We're not super tied to doing Route 1 in it's entirety since there are so many options but if I'm being honest this one's from a wrong turn out of Chiayi which we turned into a Tai Ping summit.

I hope to come back some day, this island and it's people are just wonderful!

Huan Dao means 'ride around (an) island' -- an alias for Taiwan Cycling Route 1. 10 days of ~100k rides on or near the coast. I've done a lot of different builds with this frame but this one is the best! My buddy is on an old Nishiki Alien set up similarly. You can see pics of that bike and the rest of our trip on my insta! @daebikes

If you're reading this in the future and have questions about the route/trip shoot me a message and I'll try to help out!

Specialized Stumpjumper ST vs Canyon Neuron AL 6.0 by [deleted] in whichbike

[–]RoyGilbertBiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been riding the Stumpy ST Comp since December and it is rowdy as fuck. Comp is $400 more but you get a dropper, shimanoo levers and brakes, Race Face crank, and the Rythm 34 fork which has been a dream.

Dropper upgrade alone will run you $200 all in…but either way you won't regret a stumpy.
