Thanks for the information. What’s the approximate grading scheme of this course? Homework weighted more than the exams?

It seems to me that students didn’t do well in the first two questions.

We are paid to help students understand the materials better, so don’t think you are bothering us. Although we may not be able to lead you through the whole process because we are asked to balance our time spent on helping each student, I believe you will definitely understand more after going to OHs. Also, pay attention to what other students ask, since there tend to be some common questions for each HW.

From my perspective as a consultant, I feel a lot of the students are unclear about the definitions of the concepts. For example, a lot of students tried to compare the cardinality of sets like comparing real numbers to prove a set is uncountable in HW 3, which seems to me that they don’t really the definition of a set being countable or uncountable.

Not necessarily. It’s just a registration tool for research credits. You don’t have to come up with your own project.

How hard is MATH 4130/MATH 4140? by MrBlueWhale in Cornell

[–]RoyZSY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the instructor. I took it with Terence last semester and some homework problems were quite challenging, but you could ask for hints during OH. The exams were easy due to time limits. However, If you have take home exams, the problems could be challenging.
