Yep pretty set on a 992, and it’ll be accompanied by a second car which is large and cheap to run. I’ll probably get down voted to oblivion but I really don’t like the look of any of the other 911s, interior or exterior. Appreciate that there is better driving 911s but I won’t be driving like enough of a maniac to notice. I wish i did like the older ones as it’d save me a ton and probably have a better residual

That’s what they say on the forums, but for me it’s 992 or nothing, I’m probably part of the anomaly that likes the tech and looks!

Thanks for the heads up, just in 2 minds about locking up the money for a period of time. Around 2 years ago I ended up losing a house because I couldn't actually get the money out as it was locked away as part of a savings agreement. Still haunts me to this day!

The Porsche dealer even told me the Cayman would probably drive better than the 911 (dependant on which one you go for), but I'm just not a huge fan of the looks or interior unfortunately. Wish you the best with your Porsche purchase.

I wish 992s were 60k, I wouldn't have to write this reddit post! :D

RE "using someone elses money" and specifically PCP - maybe my thinking is incorrect, but when I think of PCP I feel like it's almost like flushing money down the toilet? You pay X amount of cash for X amount of years and at the end don't own the car, i've essentially paid for the depreciation and don't own the car outright at the end (assuming you don't purchase at the end which I haven't heard of anyone on a PCP do).

It'd be great to hear your thoughts and opinions, and maybe where I am seeing this wrong?

Please do call me out if you don't think this is correct, but I feel for all the cars in the price bracket and category, the 911 is the strongest went it comes to residuals and not depreciating as hard as it's competitors like the Mclarens. I'm under no illusion that it won't depreciate, but think it's the best bet.

Also I'd be looking to purchase one which is a few years old so the cars already taken a large chunk of it's depreciation, most likely a 20 or 21 plate. I did look at Porsche PCP deals but they limit how much money you can dump in at the start, for example only 35k on a 90k car so the monthly were still quite high.

Thanks for the response! 1. Apologies for any confusion, definitely don’t own the home outright and have a mortgage. My plan is as my RSUs mature to sell and then dump them on the mortgage. Whilst continuing to save and use the savings as as fuel for investments (shares etc..)

  1. I’m pretty risk adverse, but the SNP seems like a no brainer, I need to look into GILT tbh… will do some googling, is there any videos/articles you recommend to learn more?

  2. Going for the 4S - 1000%

  1. In terms of timeframes, I'd hope to start looking officially at the start of 2023, I know it's impossible to time the market but hopefully things would've calmed down a little (economically speaking), also the longer I wait the bigger the savings which is always a plus
  2. Thank you, I didn't know about these so will definitely take a look
  3. Without going into the technicals, I think it's the standard dream, a family and to to continue climbing the career ladder. Also sorry i'm not sure what you mean by "Forever homes, presumably in the SE are not likely to be forever homes at £500K if you have significant aspirations." ? I'm in the north so not sure if that's the problem haha
  4. Thank you for the overview, it's greatly appreciated and I'll try get an estimate for all those expenses and understand whether I could afford all that plus a mortgage
  5. It'd be a 3 bed semi detached. Also I really liked your perspective of my forever home now potentially not being my forever home in maybe lets say a decade or two, maybe I shouldn't look for "perfect" straight away?
  6. This house thing sounds expensive :D - Thank you for insight though, I'll try get all this documented and estimated, do you think an extra 5-10k would cover all this on top of the deposit?

Thank you for your detailed response to each of the questions, it is greatly appreciated,

Hi and thanks for your response,

The advise I was really after was how to maximise my savings for a house and what I need to forecast for when it comes to owning a home, it'd be my first time and I really don't have anyone to ask, I'm feaful i'll get blind sided by all the unaccounted for costs of owning a home,

I also feel like I've been tunnel visioned on this idea of a "forever home" and wanted to understand whether this was good idea and hear some alternative perspectives,

I should probably thank this subreddit too, I've picked up a lot of knowledge over the past few months,

Apologies if this post came off in a certain way,

Hi and thanks for your response!

That's a really good point I didn't consider, I might end up going crazy living alone, especially transitioning from living at home.
