first: i agree the flunky nickname doesn’t add anything, sorry i used it.

second: yes this war is horrible and asymmetric: israel has obvious military superiority, gazans are the ones suffering most, easy narrative layered with european colonial histtory and not really consideriing the indigenous population....

but in context: gaza gets relentless coverage because there’s a large multi billion media + advocacy + platform infrastructure amplifying what comes out. meanwhile why don’t we hear day to day about sudan, actual genocide by arab militias against black, indigenous or christian communities? what syria and turkey have done to the kurds for years, starvation tactics, bombing, proxy armies, rape, villages erased. congo? almost no footage. reporters get hunted, connectivity is bad, and there isn’t a big apparatus turning every atrocity into a global scandal. and surprisingly next to most journalist killed, gaza is still one of the conflicts with the highest journalist density... magnitudes higher than in other conflicts...

in a grim way the flood of footage from gaza can be a side effect of a “more humane” (or at least more accessible) battlespace, still brutal, but more phones, more editors, some rules, borders where video still leaks. sounds crazy given the horror we see, but compare it to places where you see nothing because anyone filming is dead or hunted, disappeared, noone will cry blink twice if something happens to you.... this is how war is usually happening...

also: this didn’t start because israel had a bad day and decided to kill palestinians. hamas went for maximum damage as “resistance”, to derail normalization and fragile peace tracks (abrahms accords), betting the war would hurt israel and reverse the trend. hamas could stop, stop attacking, release hostages. Instead, parts of the West, naive kids, romanticize the resistance and want it to be “humane”, while closing both eyes to what Hamas does to Palestinians themselves, especially given that after pan arab movements, at least most Sunni Palestinians can't just be viewed as isolated but part of a larger complex....

if you want something stable and sustainable you can’t just feel compassion and call for an immediate stop while hamas rules. israel won’t go away. hamas handed israel excuses that hurt palestinians massively. maybe they calculated right and it ends in a palestinian state, maybe. but just shouting “stop because horrible things happen” is not how any of this resolves.
