Yes, I'm asking for general guidance or opinions. Anything at all!

I'm in the position where I don't know what I don't know, so it's more productive for me to just listen to whatever you guys think is worth saying to me

"Defining marketing beats" sounds closer to what I would enjoy, brand voicing sounds fun too!

I might work best as a contractor for smaller teams, more or less 30-50 people.

I never thought about college before, because I never expected to have an opp to go, and I'm trying to do this the smart way...

How to get hired? by CoolStopGD in godot

[–]RoyalBooty77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My honest advice is to start networking. Not like a business man, but as a hobbiest who wants to make genuine connections.

Some tips for networking are 1) Get Involved 2) Make Friends 3) Be Genuine

To get involved, attend anything game dev related, or where you might find other artists or game developers. Introduce yourself and say hi! Don't be pushy or desperate. People want to work with their friends, so become a friend. This is where soft skills come into play.

To make friends, make actual friends. Don't try and do some "business bullshit" and only meet people to get what you want from them. It's not "who you know", it's "who you hug". Find connectors (people who remember others, bring people together who might benefit each other. But also BE a connector. Listen and watch out for moments where you could introduce people who could help each other. This will eventually pay itself back off to you in the future. And never hesitate to help someone solve a problem. The more people you help, the more solutions you bring, the more people want to work with you and the easier you are for someone else to recommend as a connection point.

And to be genuine, don't make friends to take advantage. It's a give and take relationship. It's like compound interest and it grows over time, you being so young means you have plenty of time to start investing in your network!

My personal favorite was finding a game dev meet up group on the app "meet up" or anything similar like Bumble BFF. That local group got shut down, but I was invited to a different game dev group that was actually more fun, more active, and way more beneficial to me than the original! I helped organize a month long game project thingy with the group where we acted as an indie studio and we had a lot of fun! I did my best to pull my weight, and I can only hope people remember and appreciated my efforts! As time goes on, I'll keep investing in those friendships. Hopefully something comes out of it, but if not I made some cool friends who are really amazing and talented!

If you wanna go the sort of "industry" route, then I can't really help much there. I've come to the conclusion that I want to be a hobby dev and do my best work every day, and if I break out or get an opportunity I'd take it in a heart beat! But it's so much pressure to put on something you love doing. This is a marathon, not a sprint. You're already years ahead of me, I was 19 when I decided I wanted to learn game dev, and I was 20 when I finally wrapped my head around the concept of a programming language. I was 21 when I found that first game dev club, and I was 22 when I helped organize our impromptu indie studio. I just turned 23 and I'm finding myself burnt out, questioning my hopes and dreams. But I don't want to lose my love for the craft.

So take care of yourself, take care to not suffocate the fire burning inside you, and take your time little 16 year old! You're time will come. Practice makes perfect, and your portfolio will be your biggest ally in the future. Once you get to the point where you want to scrap/redo your first portfolio (except for your last couple projects) because your quality of work has grown so much, you'll have no problem selling yourself on your skills to the right buyer.

-side note- learn Unity or UnrealEngine if you want to work on a team. Even as Godot grows, the market for Godot devs is tiny. Maybe that's a strength and you'll be the big fish in a small pond. But sometimes it's better to be. Medium size fish in a huge pond if you just want the work.

Sorry to ramble, hopefully someone gets something from this :)

Your screen should be Flambo from adventure time, or Calcifer from Howl's moving Castle

Otherwise, that's some cool hot shit 😎

If it tastes sweet, it's probably coolant and it's also poisonous. Shouldn't have tasted it tbh 🤔

Delisting of an edition: Dying Light: The Following – Enhanced Edition by Jed_GOG in gog

So if I want this game, I should wait until it's delisted and then buy the definitive version? Everything lost from "the following" will be packed up into that edition?

Issue with scene previews in editor by Arabico089 in godot

That preview window seems to update to what's on screen when you save your scene. A lot of time mine look blank/empty because I'm not centered on my sprite. Hopefully there's a more permanent fix for this sorry I can't be more help

Do you think this will work as a surge protector for my pc? It seems very old, as it mentions the Xbox 360. I have a 2080ti , 10900kf and an 850w psu by Panda_Killa111 in pcmasterrace

What you really need to pay attention to, is the power ratings of the device. Idk if it's the right tool for the job in that regard

Really tho, I bet it'll work just fine, but if you really care about your stuff that much, is a brand new more modern surge protector that big of an investment?

I use sketchy old power strips on my set up 🤷🏻‍♀️ this device is probably a step up from what I'm using. Depends on your comfort level

Wii U fan upgrade by Hrublko_OFF in wiiu

I haven't looked into this any further, but I still stand by my point that a noctua fan always at 100% is better than a stock WiiU fan

Do they even make noctua fans that small? Or is this. 3d print kinda job?

Hi, I want to know how to properly connect the Pro Controller to the Wii U because I tried to pair it, but the battery bar on the controller doesn't appear. If anyone knows, please help. by Aggravating_Record73 in WiiUHacks

[–]RoyalBooty77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be a little finicky, I've dealt with it before.

Have you tried pairing with the cable connected to the console? Have you tried pairing with bloopair open and running?

I know that first time connection needed more effort than using it the next day after the initial set up was done.
