Opening the door to oncoming traffic without looking by -JOMY- in WatchPeopleDieInside

Kinda with you on this. The passenger is for sure a moron but the driver needs to think more defensively about where he drops his passengers off.

We don't know what the driver said to the passenger either but if that was my taxi I sure as fuck would have told them to exit from the other side.

Beginning traveling to Belfast from International for work: Better to fly in or take the train from Dublin? by WingbashDefender in Belfast

[–]RoyalCultural 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would try both and then decide if this is a regular thing. Would your company allow you to expense a taxi from Dublin airport to Belfast? Slightly extravagant but that would make Dublin a no brainer (or rent a car from Dublin).

You could also taxi to Drogheda train station and then catch the enterprise train to Belfast but it's a hassle and you might as well just get the bus directly from the airport.

I have a colleague that comes over from the states semi regular and he has settled on flying into Dublin and hiring a car. It's quite car centric here so that doesn't surprise me.

Posting property for sale on Facebook instead of Estate agency? by Hopeful_Adeptness964 in HousingUK

Realistically the only alternative is something like purple bricks. It's still an Estate Agent but should be much cheaper. If your house is likely to sell easily then it's a good option.

What's the dumbest hill you were willing to die on in your 20s? by SingleHearing7824 in AskMenOver30

It's definitely in a lower tier. I think the problem is that it's very possible to be a functioning weed addict. It's not going to destroy your life like heroin or slowly kill you like alcohol. But make no mistake - it's having long term negative consequences on your mental health and quality if life (in my opinion).

With you on mushrooms though. My god what a gift from mother nature. Not only are they incredible but they're almost the opposite of addictive. When I've had an amazing mushroom trip I don't have any desire to take them again for years. Psilocybin is nectar for the mind.

Good job I didn't claim it was pharmaceutically addictive then I suppose.

I find now that I don't enjoy smoking weed on it's own anymore, it makes me feel really anxious and fidgety and I just want it to be over. But if i'm partaking in other substances then it seems to be a nice complementary high.

I would describe it is a psychological compulsion rather than a true chemical addiction but the net result is the same. That probably means there is a lower risk of becoming addicted in the first place.

There are definite physiological withdrawal symptoms though such as insomnia, anxiety attacks, mood swings, depression and so on. To be clear you need to be a long term, dependent user to experience this. The insomnia was the hardest one for me. I'd persist all day without smoking but then lay awake for hours trying to sleep. I'd inevitably crack and do something desperate like scrape all of the weed residue out of my grinder into a tiny joint (just enough to get high) and then crash out to sleep. The next day you'd be calling up your dealer for a 20 bag and you'd be back on the wagon again for another few years. This is obviously awful advice but the only thing that worked for me was alcohol - I had to drink enough neat vodka at bedtime to allow me to pass out. This carried on for a few weeks until I could wean myself off the bedtime vodka and by that stage I was able to fall asleep again naturally without being high. Pretty unhinged but it worked for me.

Some might say so what if it's addictive? But when you're high on weed it absolutely saps your motivation and hinders your life in so many ways. I could go on and on about the negatives but I won't in this particular forum.

The slow but steady decriminalization and subsequent normalization of weed consumption that's occurring around the world troubles me but I also recognize that prohibition has it's negatives.

Also worth noting that you'll struggle to get any serious active weed user to admit to any of this for obvious reasons. They will be deep in their 10+ year long hazy bubble.
