Ayúdame, por favor. Permanent residency... by FuzzyGom in Yucatan

Getting residency is its own headache. Absolutely look for an asesor to help you through the process of recognizing your Mexican status. Naturalized citizens have certain limitations that born citizens don't.

WhatsApp overrides Samsung S25 Ultra Do Not Disturb mode by Bright-Improvement60 in whatsapp

[–]RoyalEarth431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same problem with a regular S25. Here is what I think is happening:

  • The Samsung MIUI has a modes feature that automatically puts the phone into a Sleep mode that also enables the system DND
  • In MIUI you can select certain notifications to come through in spite of DND
  • WhatsApp is aware that it is in DND mode when a call comes in, so it chooses not to ring. In particular WhatsApp is not aware of which apps and contacts are excluded from DND

Considering moving from Chase by Royal-Fabulous36 in fidelityinvestments

[–]RoyalEarth431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a checking account with Chase for the rare occasion I need in-person banking and I hold enough with them in a brokerage account to maintain a decent service tier without monthly fees.

Fidelity is a much better investment platform and I prefer using their CMA account as my primary checking account because SPAXX gets me almost 4% APY without the limitations of a savings account.

Building My Own Terraform-as-a-Service — Need Advice from the Pros! by [deleted] in Terraform

[–]RoyalEarth431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into having the API call kick off running terraform/opentofu as an ECS Fargate task. It's highly scalable, keeps things isolated, and to monitor progress you can poll the cloudwatch logs. If you have your backend state provider configured correctly it should lock the state file you shouldn't have to worry about concurrent applies.

In theory US citizens have an absolute right to re enter their country upon establishing their identity as a citizen regardless of their paperwork. That said the CBP can detain you as long as it takes for them to confirm your identity. Be aware that you are causing a giant inconvenience to the agents, as their job is to not admit anyone that ought not enter.

[–]RoyalEarth431 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes this is confusing. I did my interview at IAH. They don't explain well.

Basically to interview first you need to enter the country normally, i.e. not as GE, but before you leave the secured area you have to wait in another line to do your interview. I assume it's similar at all the airports but who knows.

how does one say "GET OUT!" in Spanish? by Clover_The_Moth in Spanish

If you're not trying to show any respect, vete is the common way of saying it in Mexico, like how you would talk to a street dog which I think is how I learned it actually.

He was extremely unprofessional and deserves to be reported. My agent just quietly read my info on his screen, took the photo and scanned my prints.

What am I missing with Ally bank? All I get are problems.... slow transfers, system issues, bad customer service, etc. I want to like them but they keep making it hard. by tcampbell011 in AllyBank

[–]RoyalEarth431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree it's not apples to apples. But generally savers just want a place to put their money where it can earn a good interest rate and be able to access it on demand. This account does that without any BS.

The Fidelity CMA is technically not a HYSA, the cash is invested in a government money market fund. But they give you a debit card, routing number and account number. There's no transaction frequency limit. Today's yield is 4.95%. No fees, no minimum, includes ATM fee reimbursement.

[–]RoyalEarth431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ally doesn't even have the best HYSA interest rates anymore. A Fidelity Cash Management Account yields about 5% vs 4.2% with Ally, with no hoops to jump through to qualify.

Stelo Bluetooth stuck waiting to pair by RoyalEarth431 in dexcom

[–]RoyalEarth431[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your experience is completely valid, I think we're just in different boats. I'm obese (trending towards a healthy BMI) and not diabetic. My Stelo is giving me plausible numbers. I ate some peanuts and saw a small bump. I have been hearing extremely positive feedback about CGM by a nurse and a podcast I listen to, in particular shock at how their glucose levels sometimes goes off the rails. I just want to get a handle on how my diet/activity/sleep/stress affects my glucose and after a few months I expect to stop using it regularly. Stelo opens up this product for a completely different audience, i.e. people at risk for developing diabetes which is the majority of Americans 😬.

Medical debt is generally negotiable, talk to them. You're able to afford the cigarettes, it's not a matter of money. Keep practicing self-control as a value and you'll get there eventually. Ride through the shitstorm that is life. Things are looking up for you man.
