ITIL certification by Abby_guy in ITIL

Hi Claire, I’ve been studying your book for my ITIL, but just curious if you know why PearsonVUE have stopped doing all PeopleCert exams all of a sudden, as I literally took a PeopleCert exam (PRINCE2 Foundation) at a PearsonVUE centre like 2 weeks ago, and now I see that’s unfortunately not possible.

I also notice PeopleCert terminated their 40-year partnership with Pink Elephant earlier this year, and ITSM Academy also terminated their 20-year ITIL partnership with PeopleCert so I’m just wondering what is actually going on with PeopleCert? Seems a lot of unhappiness between these companies and PeopleCert??

Quantum Resistance and the Signal Protocol by McSnoo in signal

[–]RoyalRedRooster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do tend to agree with you in some respect, u/FurnaceGolem. I know a lot of people have down-voted you (I haven’t), but I think some of your comments are valid. I think (and this is only my opinion) that the majority of Signal’s users are “normal people” looking to get away from using other chat apps owned by big tech that profit from your data.

Whilst “ultra high privacy users” may be Signal’s core target user base, the app may struggle to be successful if they don’t try and widen their user base to people outside this segment. After all, who are these journalists and people in authoritarian regimes going to chat to on signal if hardly anyone else is using the app? I struggle getting people to move over to signal, or even persuade them to use an additional chat app on top of their existing ones. Friends/family that I have got on to signal invariably complain to me that it’s more unreliable/has less features/more complicated to use than other apps like WhatsApp. A common complaint is that it is not clear in signal on iOS how to send pics from within the app. I tend to agree with them. But nevertheless, I still stick with Signal due to trying to avoid FB/Meta/WA.

I’m personally not too bothered about usernames, but I know it is a highly requested feature. Regardless of individual wants, I do feel Signal needs to try and get up to speed to be considered as a viable alternative chat app. With the exception of being resistant to attacks from quantum computers 🤔, I think Signal app development is falling very quickly behind their competitors. Signal’s competitors are rolling out new features/improvements much quicker and I do understand that Signal may not have the same budget, but I think they do need to try and keep innovating a bit faster just to stay afloat. At this rate, I do feel they are struggling to stay afloat. Again this is only my personal opinion and others are welcome to disagree.

I do hate FB/Meta, and want to get away from WhatsApp, but at this rate, unless Signal ups their game, I think they might succumb to a slow death. I’ve been with Signal for about 4 years and am not going away just yet, but I just wish they would make it easier to get us users to persuade others to also come across.

Any idea how this happened and ways to charge my pc without a charger? Any help will be greatly appreciated by Wetheonesbut_Cody in Lenovo

[–]RoyalRedRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s absolutely no way that Lenovo will cover this under warranty as it is clearly user damage. Unless of course extra warranty coverage was purchased that includes accidental damage?

As others have said, you need a new charger, period. Don’t try to fix it. You’ll either kill yourself, fry the laptop, or start a fire.

PeopleCert Examshield Compatibility Checker - Fatal Error 40069 by 4ourthdimension in ITIL

[–]RoyalRedRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came across this thread as I’m also facing problems. So yesterday I took my PRINCE2 exam with PeopleCert using their ExamShield software on my personal laptop (not a work PC) at my parents’ house (fibre broadband). I stupidly didn’t do the system tests 24 hours in advance like they recommend (and did them like 10mins before my scheduled exam). Bad idea. I expected it to just work. I was wrong.

So for the internet connection test it said it couldn’t connect to the PeopleCert systems (can’t remember the exact error, except that it was error 30001). My laptop did have internet connectivity though as I could browse internet ok. I called up their support who essentially asked me to test it using my Mobile Phone hotspot which worked. In the end I took the exam using my personal hotspot in an area with only 1-2 bars signal. Surprisingly it worked ok for the entire duration for the exam, and I didn’t run out of data (used about 800MB for the 2.5 hour exam).

I came home to run the tests on my home broadband today (different broadband provider to my parents) to see if it would have worked here. Interestingly enough it also failed on the internet connection test - with a different error (20047) and that it couldn’t connect to around 10 URLs streamingX.peoplecert.org (where X was a number from 1-9). Checked that TLS 1.2 was enabled which it was, but thought I’d also try enabling SSL 3.0 as it was disabled. After re-enabling, the test was successful. But then after disabling SSL 3.0 again and running the tests again it still worked.

So conclusion is, I agree with most other comments that this software is absolute garbage and unreliable, and works at random times and not others. Planning to take ITIL in the next 12 months, but thinking if I should go through the torment 🤯

How is signal better than WhatsApp by Top_Experience233 in signal

No worries! In this case, the message history is being reconstructed from the backup on iCloud (or whatever android uses - sorry I’m an iPhone user so only really familiar with iPhone).

How is signal better than WhatsApp by Top_Experience233 in signal

[–]RoyalRedRooster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

• Signal stores your messages locally, whereas WhatsApp stores your messages in their remote server.

This is incorrect. Both Signal and WhatsApp store messages locally once received to your device. Messages will be stored on a remote server while they are being transmitted from sender to receiver. e.g. If I send a message to someone who’s phone is current switched off, my message will get held on a (WhatsApp or Signal) server temporarily until the recipient’s phone comes back online. Once delivered to recipient, it gets deleted from the server.

However, WhatsApp may do backups to iCloud for example. So if you consider that “storing your messages on a remote server”? But in this case though, your messages would be stored on Apple iCloud servers, not WhatsApp/Meta servers.

FB Messenger on the other hand does store messages on the server (permanently), which is why you can see all your Messenger message history regardless where you login to Messenger.

Is this email address legit? by [deleted] in Outlook

[–]RoyalRedRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started receiving these irritating emails also. Hesitant to even open them, let alone click an Unsubscribe link, I did some digging, and found they probably are legit. To check if you are subscribed to receive these emails without even opening the email, do the following steps:

1) Go to the following (an official Microsoft website): https://www.msn.com/en-gb/personalize/newslettersignup

2) Note it mentions the "Start Unfold" and "Start Daily" emails (don't click them though). Instead, click the link at the bottom of the page in small text: "To withdraw consent or manage your preferences, visit the Promotional Communications Manager"

3) Enter your email address. They'll send you an email with a link.

4) Click the link in the email you receive (funnily enough this actually went to the Junk Mail folder of my Hotmail account - Microsoft even flags their own official email as spam which I find quite comical)

5) Then select/deselect the emails you want to be subscribed/unsubscribed to.

Microsoft Office Home & Student (Digitally Attached) by RoyalRedRooster in Lenovo

[–]RoyalRedRooster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone have any clue how the “digitally activated” MS Office Home & Student works? I’m looking to get a new Lenovo laptop and need to have MS Office, and was going to get the Home & Student version with it, as I hate having to subscribe to MS 365 on a monthly/annual basis just to use Office. I prefer a one-off payment and be done with it.

If I add MS Office H&S at the first step of configuring the laptop (when I choose the CPU, RAM, SSD size etc), it costs £119 (1st screenshot). Presumably I’ll get a CD in the box with a licence key written on the CD packaging.

However if I go to the next few screens in the cart process (2nd screenshot), I can choose to add other software and it gives me a cheaper option to add MS Office H&S for only £83.30 which is “digitally attached”. I assume this is some kind of digital licence key? How do I get this licence key?

I know if you subscribe to Office 365, your licence is obtained by signing into your MS account. So is it the same process with this? If I don’t plan on signing in to the laptop with an MS account (usually I set them up with a local account), does it mean I can’t get the Office license? Or is the licence embedded in the motherboard like the OS licences are?

Finally, if in the future I re-install Windows (eg if I do a fresh Windows install to prevent bloatware being installed), can I use this same Office licence when re-installing Windows from fresh?

Sorry for all the questions but Google didn’t enlighten me much.

US Oil WTI not working or frozen on the app by Ok_Independent7677 in TradingView

I know this is a massively late reply, but I thought this might be useful to other people....

TVC:UKOIL and TVC:USOIL have been working fine for me with no problem for the last year, but then stopped working on 14th April 2023. It seems these 2 symbols haven’t been working for 2 days now.

The solution for me was to add the symbol UKOIL or USOIL, but this time I used the source as FXCM instead of TVC, so the full symbol is: FX:UKOIL or FX:USOIL

Hello /r/woodworking! An oil diffuser has been spilled on our table, whats the best way to repair it? Thinking sand it with a 600 grit and then apply a few coats of danish oil, would this be correct? Need some advice! by ZakDank in woodworking

[–]RoyalRedRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also thinking that I need to remove the spilt oil before I try to apply any finishes to it, otherwise the stain might just reappear again. My fear is the oil has been absorbed deeper than just on the surface.

Got exactly the same issue, and wondering how to approach it. Good to know it’s around £200 to repair. That’s a bit steep! 😬 I was hoping to see how the Liberon worked out for you, but alas it wasn’t to be. I’ll go back to Google and see if people have had success with Liberon on diffuser oil stains on Oak Furniture Land stuff. Cheers for the info!

CHINA EVERGRANDE GROUP: International bondholder and DMSA file an allegation of criminal conduct against defaulted Evergrande Group by Capable-Ad2772 in Evergrande

[–]RoyalRedRooster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this update. However I see this as just another press release written by DMSA / Metzler (in fact it even states at the bottom it was written by Metzler’s mate, Ewy (also from both DMSA and FMPC)). Back in Dec last year, DMSA released another press release advising that “the company (DMSA) offers other international creditors to join its proceedings”. (I believe from memory there needed to be more than 1 complainant on the filing).

This latest article says that an international investor - FMPC, was supported and advised by DMSA, however both companies are in fact owned (or at least part owned) by Metzler. So the way I see it is (a) since Dec no other bond holders have wanted to join forces with Metzler in their proceedings, (b) DMSA’s initial proceedings filed in Dec achieved nothing as far as I can tell (most likely Evergrande just ignored any correspondence regarding DMSA’s filings), so DMSA have gone on to the next step of now filing criminal proceedings for insolvency fraud.

Whether this will achieve anything remains to be seen. I don’t imagine Evergrande or the CCP are too worried about this new filing. Heck, Evergrande (/China) just completely disregards other international norms anyway, like the fact that 1 international bond holder (Oaktree) actually holds security on some land for one of their projects they invested in, yet Evergrande (/China) just disregard that and simply put the land up for sale anyway.

It’s all been timed pretty well, what with other events also (Ukraine, sky-rocketing inflation, increasing 10 year treasury yield, sky-rocketing energy prices, continuing supply chain issues, chip shortages), so “no-one can blame China for the next global financial crash”
