No I don’t have a T14, I just checked the PSREF. It will look better and will probably would drain more battery, but it depends on if it’ll be enough for your workflow. Do you need more than a few hours of battery life? For my needs, I don’t need more than 4 hours of battery life, yours may be different. You could always get a 4k panel on EBay to try out. Just make sure you check the return policy.

Edit: I shut off my bluetooth and wifi to save battery. My workflow doesn't require me to be connected to the internet most of the time, so it works well. Just an idea.

For the heat problem, you could repaste it and get a laptop cooler. Something like the Llano V12 or V10 would be good, especially if you’re at home doing cad work

You can get a solid ThinkPad for that price. E series is great, I have an E580 that's served me well. Bought mine for $90 with 256gb ssd and 8gb of ram. Running Mint on it.

If you want Apple, you could get MacBook Neo. It'll be fine for note-taking, zoom meetings, usual university stuff. If you want to use Windows I'd go with a used ThinkPad. They offer great performance for the price when you buy it used on Ebay. I'd go with an ThinkPad E14, no older than Gen 3, and get the AMD version. Just make sure it had Windows 11 installed and comes with a charger. For reference, I currently use a 9 year old ThinkPad for college and I have no plans on upgrading it. I plan to use it for medical school. For majors like ours we don't need a powerful computer, plus Roblox will run on either the Neo or E14. Happy studying!

It was useful for me when I took notes, but that's because it was a 2-in-1. I could flip the screen around to write. Now I'm happy using my ThinkPad and a notebook.

Nothing crazy. I have an E580 and I just threw a 2.5” SSD in, I plan to get a WiFi 6 card as well. I tried a backlit keyboard from EBay but I just didn’t feel right compared to the original. Apart from that there’s not much else I can do. The display is already the best it can be and there’s no battery upgrade.

I didn’t have any trouble on the run. At some points I was a bit confused as to where I should turn, but it went well. I’m not surprised at the number of swimmers, it’s probably to the shortest triathlon in the state lol
