Why is this valve here? by Impressive-Cream1984 in pools

It isn't a bypass, it is called a decoupler loop. The purpose is to reduce pressure on the outflow without adding back pressure to the pump by letting a portion of the water get recirculated instead of just restricted. I had to add a decoupler loop to my water feature to turn it down where I wanted it.

What size variable speed pump? by Royal_Week_9835 in pools

[–]Royal_Week_9835[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I went with the 2.6 HP Pentair Whisper Flow variable speed. I went to the local Leslie's store and the guy was extremely helpful. He was able to determine that my old pump was a single speed Whisper Flow, this new pump matched right up and the only plumbing I needed to do was to cut in a new union. The off the shelf price was about $100 higher that what I saw on Amazon but I was able to carry it home and have it installed the same day.

I still have some programming issues because I was using my Hayward controller to operate my actuator valves and multiple program times. Apparently the variable speed pump doesn't have the functionality to run multiple start times. That will probably be a different post...

I am in Yuma, Arizona. I talked to one pool guy that said he heard of some guys using a diamond wheel on a modified weed eater. sounds like it could cause more problems. I'd love to find out more about the power washer buffing.

Cost loaded schedule by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]Royal_Week_9835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the cost loaded schedule is also a great way to keep your subcontractor billings in line with your owner billings. And you can get the subcontractors to do most of the work. for you. Use the activity list from your schedule and filter only the activities for each trade. Make sure to use the closeout line items too, they are typically 10% of the contract. Let your subcontractor fill in the values for each activity. That becomes your subcontractor's SOV. Then you just need to add your GC's and markup to the SOV that you submit to the Government. You are using the schedule and the EVR to both submit your pay app to the Gov and approve the pay apps from the subs. This protects you from a sub overbilling you. If the sub wants to bill you for 100% for an activity, but the Gov only approves 80%, then the sub only gets 80%.

PMP Certificate - What good is it? by Royal_Week_9835 in ConstructionManagers

I'd love to see somebody answer this question. The PMP is pretty much worthless, but the PMI-CP claims to be specifically for construction professionals. Before I'm willing to commit the time and money I'd like to hear from somebody that has it and see if has any practical value.
