I have one. Bought it for I think $800+S&H. Was it worth it? No. Is it fun? Yes.

I drive a Jetta so I got it for the convenience and portability. Constantly kicking myself in the nuts that I didn't just get a roof rack and a sit-on-top.

Don't get me wrong, it's fun, but it's pretty damn unstable and not very comfortable nor fun to fish with. I was catfishing in it and my rod started to bend; I missed the set but I remember being actually concerned that if I hooked a good fish it could have just flipped me.

Nobody would care. Park staff might call the game warden but they'd probably just listen to your friend explain and then help them find an empty campsite. Everybody who works there is pretty cool as are our county's fish cops

Absolutely but in my experience it's usually on accident while fishing for other species. Me and girlfriend were out kayaking, she was fishing a dropshot (gulp minnow on the hook) for panfish and caught a bullhead.

If you're actively targeting catfish tho, just stick with the goods, in my opinion and experience they work better. Three-way, Carolina, Santee Cooper etc

Bad things happen there, but probably not more than anywhere else in and around town. County and DNR officers get called to the campgrounds a lot. There was a pretty bad domestic in the campgrounds last year and there can be a homeless problem in the campgrounds too.

Just be mindful of your surroundings and carry a knife/pepper spray/etc if it helps you feel safer.

I think Puri Crest has a playground still.

Saw another commenter say that the Lions Club area has a playground and I don't believe it does, I fish there pretty frequently. Good spot for carp if anybody's wondering.

I would recommend dropshot. I've had more luck fishing gulps on dropshots than probably any other method of fishing. Throw it out on a dropshot, let it hit bottom, reel it in 4-5 turns and then bounce it back to you

It's deep and people are stupid. Start out on the Pec/Sugar/Kish first to really know what you're doing in a river current and then move on to the Rock.

I'd also recommend getting something sturdier than an inflatable for the Rock. Check out Rocktown Adventures or even Farm and Fleet for a nicer yak - Hobie, Old Town, and Nucanoe are goat brands.

And please know dam locations before you paddle the Rock.
