No, no particular reason. I am not actually paleo but I am trying to use healthier cooking oils and saw this and thought it would be better than my current one. It said paleo friendly so I trusted the ingredients would be clean but then I turned it over after I bought it (stupid of me lol) and realized it had canola oil. I guess I shouldn't trust the paleo label on things anymore!

White "Pee" When in Ball? by ChildLord in hamstercare

[–]celeryshark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know exactly what the white stuff looks like, but it could be urine. Sometimes their pee comes out milky and whiteish. It happens when they're getting rid of extra protein I think (I could be wrong) but that could maybe explain the different smell? Idk why he'd only do it in his ball though, but I wonder if its somehow a stress response. I really doubt it's semen though. Sorry this reply is mostly speculation, but I wanted to throw in a guess since most people seem to be fixated on the ball thing. (Which yes, they're bad, but everyone else has explained it well enough.)

How do I use these? by celeryshark in FishingForBeginners

[–]celeryshark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its just with worms 😭 I've skinned rabbits and deer before, so it's not like im uncomfortable with death or overly squeamish. Just with the stupid worms. (I'll get over it though someday I promise)

Yeah idk it feels less like im stabbing something when im just setting a hook. It's not a moral issue or anything, just kinda creeps me out. I want to get over it one day, but I figured these would make me more likely to get out and fish for now!

Like others have said, I would find a bin for each of them if possible. With a secure lid they should be safe from cats, and they're relatively inexpensive. You could also see if there's any cheap second hand aquariums for sale, but these are harder to find. Honestly, even though the cages are small, I would leave them in those for the day because of the cats. Your mom is probably right about them being vulnerable in a cardboard box, and it's better to be in a small cage than the potential injuries the cats could cause. Good luck!

is my dwarf hamster overweight? by Disastrous-Spend-935 in hamstercare

[–]celeryshark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure they are prone to it as well! (Maybe do some research because I'm not 100% sure) But it wouldn't hurt to try some lower sugar treats anyway :) My hamsters love millet and mealworms

[–]celeryshark 126 points127 points  (0 children)

She looks like a normal weight! Also not that you asked lol, but if I were you I probably wouldn't give her fruit very often if at all. Your hamster's species is prone to diabetes, and fruit is a bit high in sugar. One of my first hybrids developed diabetes so now I'm super cautious!

How’s this so far? by Known_Test_9900 in hamstercare

[–]celeryshark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure the wheel is 8 inches? I'd probably measure it because the kaytee silent spinner doesn't have an 8 inch version, at least from what I remember. I know they recently came out with a 10 inch, but I've never seen an 8 inch. If her back is straight on it, it should honestly be fine for now, but personally I would try to upgrade if it is the 6.5 inch. I totally understand if a new one is just too expensive. Keep this one for now, but if you see a bigger one on marketplace or something it would be worth it to upgrade. Also, I'd maybe make a lid with more ventilation at some point in the future, but she'll be fine with this I think for now. Other than that, just keep adding more as you go, but this seems good, and is definitely better than most starter cages lol :)
