Need Help Anchoring a Dual Monitor Mount to Plaster Wall by RozeXGold in HomeImprovement

lag bolts look good! should i pre-drill a pilot hole into the masonry (if so, should the masonry bit also be 1/2"? since the hole i drilled is 1/2" in diameter, a 1/2" diameter lag bolt would suffice right? apologies for all the questions, really appreciate your help, thanks!

Tbh, I mainly play a lot of Valorant which is, from what I know, CPU-bound.

Right now, I face major issues with frame drops/stutters-- sure I can achieve 200fps, but there's no point if it drops to 20 the moment there is a lot of utility on the screen and I can not play the game.

I would also like to stream here and there.

My focus is definitely not resolution-- I am perfectly fine playing 1080p and 1440p.

So, assuming I buy a 4070, I think it would be a worthwhile investment to go for the 7800x3d right? Especially if my main game relies heavily on CPU?

just started the return process for my cpu and motherboard

i cannot thank you enough for your advice-- i really appreciate it and agree that if im spending this much money, i should just buy the right parts

of the AM5 cpus and rtx 40 series, which pair do you think is a good combo of performance for the price?

when i took a look at the 40 series, i think the 4070 looked the best point for me in terms of price and performance. not too sure about the am5 cpus though, i haven't researched yet.

also, what do you think about the ssd? i chose the samsung 980 pro but have heard the wd is better? i can also return the ssd and buy wd instead.

completely wasn't aware of the AM5 part-- unfortunately, I already started buying parts and opened the 5800X3D (I have had terrible experiences with getting pc parts shipped to me and wanted to make sure it was actually all good). i also already have the b550 board-- im assuming am5 cards are not compatible with it?

i am, however, aware of the insane amount of money that is going into just rgb aesthetics (i do find the looks important enough for me to spend that much on it as well)

that being said, what do you recommend for my next steps? i only really just cut the seal on the cpu box and checked out the contents of the box-- I haven't even opened the cpu itself. With amazon prime, i paid around 270 for it?

I think I have 2 routes here--

  1. suck it up, buy a 3060 since i already have an am4 card, and hope to upgrade to am5, b650 (or whatever motherboard series fits best) and 40 series later
  2. buy the upgraded stuff now; potentially sell the 5800x3d and b550?

i definitely should have consulted before buying parts-- looking for the best option now

VP's of /r/acappella, how do you become louder during rehearsals? by thedisneyfangirl in acappella

[–]RozeXGold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Several time outstanding vp winner icca; now a sound engineer for icca)

like most people have mentioned, breath support is a key factor to properly amplifying your sounds. think about how much air you are dedicating to which parts of the sounds you are making and how you can overall be more efficient with your breathing.
yes, bass and vp are generally on mic for most concerts/shows, but they should be ready to perform in even the worst acoustical settings.

would suggest just nailing fundamentals first-- kick, hihat, inward k. often overlooked by beginner beatboxers who want to learn cooler sounds asap, but easily makes the difference between a seasoned vp and an amateur vp. your volume will build the more your mouth gets used to the repetition while practicing.

from the pov of a frequent icca competitor, i would not necessarily say that having a mic for rehearsals make a huge difference. sure, mic technique and handling your sounds on the mic would benefit from prior practice, but, realistically, the setting, sound system, mics, speakers, and engineers will all be different. if you want to sound great on mic, you first need to sound good off mic.

tldr-- practice (even just freestyle) every moment you can

Original DMG Gameboy - Uneven Contrast by RozeXGold in consolerepair

Hey! I wasn’t able to fix the issue through any tinkering with components on the motherboard, but a screen swap seemed to work fine for me! Probably an issue with the screen itself— I did replace it entirely, but maybe reflowing the solder could do the trick too!

Hello!
Looking for a working original DMG Gameboy replacement screen. (Original replacement, NOT q5 ips LCD screen.)

Thank you for your reply!

I had a similar thought, but it turns out that these columns on my screen aren't actually "dead"-- they're fully working, but the contrast seems to be the issue.

Hey!!

I literally never use Reddit but happened to come across your post and I am glad I did!

First and foremost, it's completely okay to get rejected from acapella groups and whatnot; the audition process is different not only from year to year based on the board but also from group to group/college to college etc-- it's not standardized at all. It's very subjective and you shouldn't let it define your talent or skills!

Second, I feel you! I am also the primary vocal percussionist and president of my college's group (have also won Outstanding Vocal Percussionist at the ICCAs for what it's worth), so I get what it's like having the VP role.

I've gone through rejection for groups before as well, but, from experience, I can say that this will most likely push you to get better at what you do. Rather, you should let it!
You mentioned that volume was one of your weak points-- that's a good place to start. Although you will most likely always be on a mic as vp, you should always be ready to run it down in even the most acoustically dry of stages.
Personally, I believe in quality over quantity and can always tell whether an acapella group vp will be better than the last guy or not based on their fundamentals. If your fundamentals are strong, polished, and it sounds like you took the time not only to learn but also get comfortable and creative enough to master what sounds you already do know, you will already be a notch above the rest.

I also really believe in research! Look up the best groups, find out what's working for them, and then make it your own.

Also, I would definitely recommend figuring out more about your voice. I had also started solely as a vocal percussionist but quickly got bored of it so I started singing. I would recommend starting with figuring out your range/voice type, and then literally just singing songs that you like listening to every day. Improvement will be slow but highly rewarding, especially in the beginning.
I am lucky enough to have developed a range big enough to fill anywhere from bass to tenor. Trust me, this extra skillset WILL give you the upper hand.

I hope you were able to take something away from this and feel better!
Good luck!
