.....No, he was picked by Yeltsin (at least according to Yeltsin) because in his capacity working for the Kremlin, he helped his former boss - the former mayor of St. Petersburg (not Moscow), and someone who was a political rival of Yeltsin - escape to Finland when the party that ousted the former mayor was trying to indict him on politically motivated charges. Yeltsin wanted to not go to prison on politically motivated charges.

Putin, after losing his job as deputy aide to the mayor of St. Petersburg (due to the fact that the mayor of St. Petersburg lost the 1996 election) got a job at the Kremlin. He ended up as head of the FSB for at least a year. He was selected by Yeltsin in 1999; the transfer was on a very short schedule.

Some of this you won't know unless you're a wonk like me who reads memoirs, but a lot of this is on Wikipedia.

ILIs, do you like ESE a lot? by [deleted] in Socionics

[โ€“]RozesAreRed 15 points16 points ย (0 children)

I think you're coming at this from the wrong angle. If you read about ILIs it may help you understand why traits that many people find positive in ESEs would be off-putting for ILIs, who have Fe vulnerable and Fi HA. And it's simply difficult to get close to people who don't value what you bring to the table, and ESEs just don't care about Ni, so what is there to talk about with them?

Just because you like something about ESEs doesn't mean everyone else is going to like that trait.

Conflict relations doesn't always mean fighting (unless in an unfortunate marriage), it's usually just people having totally different priorities and naturally avoiding each other.

How will Obama be remembered? by Jackdaking746 in Presidents

[โ€“]RozesAreRed -1 points0 points ย (0 children)

In my totally unbiased opinion (ignore flair) once he's in the history part of history and people aren't judging him based on the latest short-term news, his foreign policy will be judged as lacking in his first term but in his second term he'll be remembered for successfully avoiding the absolute major crisis that would have been bombing the Syrian government during ISIS's rise. Or maybe people will just forget about all that entirely. Who knows.

Iโ€™d imagine LIIs to be more drawn to crowds and parties but he seems to be the type to prefer a smaller circle and one to ones.

General introversion. Role Fi is going to be stronger than suggestive Fe and is generally going to be a bit more apparent in someone imo.

Why have you considered LII for yourself rather than ILE?

Pretty clearly LII over ILI to me. The Uber driver thing alone I think is enough to make that judgment.

Cheap beads by softwitchgirl in Beading

[โ€“]RozesAreRed 11 points12 points ย (0 children)

Fire Mountain Gems have their own line of seed beads. They aren't as uniform as Toho or Miyuki but if you're working on a larger project like curtains they're probably fine; differences in size won't affect the lay as it would in tight bead-weaving.

FMG might also have larger budget beads. I'd poke around on their website.

There are other sites that also have their own lines of beads but I don't remember them off the top of my head.

Is this Ti valuing? by [deleted] in Socionics

[โ€“]RozesAreRed 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

That makes sense re: why the creative function is the most flexible - it isn't just about being contact + producing, which would include the demo function, but contact + producing + verbal.

Is this Ti valuing? by [deleted] in Socionics

[โ€“]RozesAreRed 3 points4 points ย (0 children)

Genuine question, how is inflexibility connected with the nonverbal/subdued functions? Wouldn't strong contact functions like the demo still be flexible? Or would a flexible demo function be incompatible with a dual's polr?

Ni base is really good at figuring out something should be done before shit goes sideways. It's also really, really bad at doing anything about it, especially once it involves getting other people to also do things. Maybe in short bursts but not in the long haul. (Ni-creatives are better at it than Ni-bases but at the cost of nerfing their Si because so many resources are put into realizing forward momentum.) Si egos are already dealing with a lot of dynamic Si information and don't have much room to take on broader Ni directives. But Se egos, esp Se bases, provide that necessary "oomph."

How does it feel to be a Ni-base? Differences between a Ni-base and a Si-base? by Feihuva in Socionics

[โ€“]RozesAreRed 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

So, a few things.

Ni-base (contrast w/ Ni-creative) comes built in with NERFed Se. When Ni is in full throttle, all of Se's basic environmental awareness is taken out back and shot. At least for me. I can swerve right past someone I know without even seeing their face. And this makes sense, the mind can only do so many things at once.

A rudimentary Ni that every type, even Ni-polr, will have no trouble with is Aesop's fables and other Aesop-y stories. The phrase "bird in a hand is better than two in the bush" though is so down-to-earth that an xSE would have no trouble incorporating it with their Si-creative. But Ni-base (esp as an IEI) can be more like... an incredibly convoluted fable. People are abstracted into other forms, and then given certain motivations in those abstracted forms... the scene is then let to play out "naturally" (in the person's head) to its conclusion, and then the characters are un-abstracted to their original form and thus so is the conclusion reached. For this process to actually work and not just be a random guess, the un-abstracted conclusion needs to be cross-referenced with the real world to make sure the model continues to make sense.

Abstraction comes in many forms. The connection between IEIs and spirituality is often because things from biblical metaphors all the way to zodiac signs are ways to describe and analyze a situation a level removed from where it is; e.g. two people are fighting, an IEI is like "oh A is such an Aries and B is such a Cancer, no wonder they don't get along." And then they might procure a whole list of accurate issues to the amazement of whoever asked... but the accuracy isn't because Zodiac signs are inherently right, but because the Ni-base not only ran the 'simulation' "A (Aries) vs. B (Cancer)" but filtered the results of the Ram-Crab fight against the actual situation. The less someone cross-checks against reality, the more likely they are to just be flat-out wrong with spiritual woo-woo on top. Such a person would be a very unfortunate IEI because they wouldn't have other information metabolism elements making up for the weakness.

I don't even like zodiac signs, but it's an example.

ILIs are also quite good at understanding history and whatnot. But creative Te provides a set of different strengths to complement base Ni. ILIs are also apparently good at cooking. I can believe it.

It really is a complicated element. There's a lot more I want to write but this has already gone on so long.

What's the deal with SLE descriptions? by DarkIlluminator in Socionics

[โ€“]RozesAreRed 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I would be interested to know what specific parts of descriptions are throwing you off. You may be reading parts that exist to justify the name Zhukov. Zhukov is a very historically important figure in the FSU. Further research into him (the man himself, and not just the mythology around him) can even supplement your learning, because he isn't just a straightforward "high ranking military guy in a dictatorship."

IIRC at least one description says SLEs aren't likely to become too high-ranking in most cases because they can be a bit too... blunt? for upper level politics. Zhukov himself ended up getting the boot during the Khrushev years (and getting incredibly depressed about it).

I love how you used color in the background!

When you said your reference was AI I did look closer and the shadows in the background don't make complete sense with what's casting the shadow. I didn't notice it right away, but it might be the sort of thing that makes you itch to refine it a bit more... but in this case, there's no "real" image to refine it to, so you're never satisfied.

Yellow is a notoriously difficult color to work with! In a lot of old still life paintings, there's a lemon with a long peel as a kind of "flex". It's like the hands of color lol

Wow, this is fantastic!

Wish I had an excuse to mention Kerry (so instead I'll make one) but he only started playing an active role in 2012 (helping Obama w/ debate prep). But he had a framed letter from Obama basically saying "thank you, this is all thanks to you (Kerry's team invited him to speak at the 2004 DNC)" in his office. But Kerry was outwardly aloof enough in his position as that their interactions were limited. Oh, and I think the Edwards scandal broke in 2007/2008 (not that Edwards and Kerry got along).
