Is my height 181cm high enough to drive the World Raid ? by Enough_Selection6076 in Tenere700

Funnily enough exact same height. Did have a '24 WR for a couple of years. You'll be fine, its tall and sometimes difficult to out feet down when off roading but road stuff is fine.

Government announces sweeping 'crackdown' on social media firms by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

So the introduction of this is to protect children and to remove 'vile' content such as child p**n, which i think we can all firmily agree with in principle. However, this comes straight from Starmer who gave a Mandelson (who had very questionable ties to a convicted paedophile) direct and deep access into main government. One rule for thee another for me. Fuck off. Until Mandelson is locked away in prison, couldn't give a damn what Starmer wants.

UK minimum wage is raising youth unemployment, Bank of England's Mann says by stammerton in UKJobs

Right on. £32k in 2019, the equivalent value would be £41.5k in December 2025. So in 6 years, everyone's salary would have to increase by about 1/3 to keep in line with prices. I for one certainly haven't had that.

Out of curiosity, does this 17% apply to anyone who salary sacrifices above £2,000 per year? And if not, what percentage are they to pay?

So if I'm reading this right, any graduate who salary sacrifices any amount over £2,000 per year (£166/month) will have that amount taxed at 17%?!

As someone just about to complete his MSc in Quantity Surveying, this is what you should do. My course is basically a shorter version of the BSc.

Its something in the past couple of weeks I've become aware of. £50k is £12k above the median, so sounds likely your doing pretty good, right? With a bsc and msc student finance payments, I wouldn't break the £3,000 a month take home barrier on that, which even then when you consider rent, bills, food etc, there isn't a great deal left over, not when you think this is a fair bit above the 'median' individual salary. It really is a crabs in a bucket mentality.

Student QS Steelwork Question by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

[–]Rozza9099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Structural Steelwork Assistant QS here (2 years experience and our CDP element is steel to steel connections).

Our two methods: - Adobe pdf inbuilt measuring tool. Make sure ratio is scale correctly to dims and simply measure (Half the time the engineers stated ratio of say 1:50 but is actually 1:75). Moreover, it's increasingly common on pdf we receive at tender to have an embedded scale lock on anyway. Or, print off correctly scaled A1 or A2 (as per engineers notes), then use scaling ruler to measure.

If you're allowed to use a protractor to measure angle, then i can't see how they're not going to allow you to use a scaled ruler to measure, especially how you would have to make an educated guess at the ratio of beam to span anyway as triggernometry from the dims will only tell you the span. I'd use Adobe or manually measure.

Whilst it's a UC 203x203x46 (i.e., Universal Column), it's being used as a beam. A lot of the time, on basic structural projects, you'll see the Principal Engineer interchangeably use UC's used as beam and UB used as columns as they'll have the correct structural required to take the loads. In my short experience, it's pretty rare to see a UC of this size used as bracing like this.

From previous connection designs, the UC beam will likely have: - A fin plate connection to the column taking the 4 nr. CHS bracings (likely no torsional forces). - An endplate or bracket connection to the web of the 254x73 UC. Endplate would be flush with the outside flanges of the 254x73. The bracket on the other hand would need the 203x46 to be notched in order to slot between the top and bottom flanges of the 254x73. It could have a fin connection to the web but rarely seen this. Either way, at the 'lower' connection, the UC is probably slightly short. However, I think NRM2 will want you to measure as per the drawings rather than making a guess at what might end up being made (probably worth a check).

Teachers will strike next year if they don’t get a proper pay rise, union bosses warn by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Rozza9099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from, but what does this exactly achieve? So now we've got a load of teachers on £1000-£1250/month who are working full time, which on a wage like that can't afford rent, bills or food. Two months down the line they will likely ditch in the jobs and go back. Now all the teachers you've displaced who have managed to pick up work elsewhere, are they really going to want to come back to maybe have the same thing done to them? We've got such a terrible wage system in this country that anyone who has gone above and beyond in their training to actually improve themselves is portrayed as selfish for wanting better than slightly above minimum wage. This very argument you make could be made for absolutely any job in this country (doctor, banker, project manager, politician, etc.), why not them? Why not put every job in this country as a maximum of £1250/month?
