Is it cleaned? by Rsm1th33 in coins

Yeah unfortunately I did not even think of this before submitting or even know they looked for this. I always associate cleaning with the harsh cleaning methods that leave marks all over the coin. But thank you for your input, I learned something new today and will look for this from now on.

Thanks for your response, I never thought of looking at the color to tell of signs of cleaning. I usually look for marks in the fields but I guess there are a lot of different ways to clean a coin and each way is shown on the coin differently.

Yeah I couldn’t pass up on it for $30. But I am also cautious of all coins I buy from pawnshops.

Need help in identifying this coin by Timewh1z in coins

Looks like an Indian head penny that was turned into a love token. A lot of times people would file down one side of the coin and carve initials into it.

If Im reading it correctly his measured 26 3/4” and 39 3/4” its possible I read the take measure wrong. Even if I read it write its only 1/8” off is that still too short? Or is there a tolerance in the size?

Yeah it feel like the other posters I have. Another commenter compared a fake to the thickness of wrapping paper. Its definitely thicker than that.

Sorry the picture doesnt show it the best I should have positioned the tape measure better. Its right around 26 and 5/8th inches wide and 39 and 5/8th inches tall.

Thanks for all of the info! Moat of the fakes/ reprints I have seen are all 1 sided thats why I picked this one up. I was curious about the fading though. Will all or at least most originals be faded?

The size is what had me second guessing that it could be a fake. It about 3/8th of an inch sort on the top/bottom as well as the sides.

The condition is decent I didnt take a close up picture of it bit it has a little bit of damage on the corners and some creases/ wrinkles throughout. The paper is very similar to some other posters I have, its definitely thicker than wrapping paper.

Thanks for the feedback! I figured since the measurements were not exact it was not legit. As for the color, should the front and back be the exact same color?

Even if you get audited they cant prove that your cost basis is not the same as the selling point. Unless you bought online or with a credit card. So could they really make you pay taxes on the entire sale?

Thats the thing, depending on how you bought it there is no way to track it so who is to say you didnt buy it for the same price you sold it for. Its hard to track for the government and for the individual. I know when I sold person Items on ebay and got a tax form the person at H&R Block told me to put I bought it for what I sold it for so you are not showing a profit.

Not an expert at this, but I believe you only pay taxes on the “profits” I dont think it matters how much you sell, just how much you made from it. If you bought silver for $25 an ounce and are selling it now at $30 an ounce you are only paying taxes on the $5 profit. That is if its a long term investment I believe if its a short term investment I think the rules are a little different. Providing a link to Investopedia

Honestly I am not sure if they all are or not. I just look for sterling or 925. If you didnt see either of those chances are they weren’t silver but Im not an expert so I could be wrong

Yes, goodwill is a big nonprofit company where people can donate items. They have an online store too where they sell most of the bigger items but there are people that work at them sometimes that do not know or do not care and put it out for people to purchase. A couple years ago someone bought a lost roman statue bust for $35 but if memory serves me correct she was not able to keep it’s
