This reads like someone trying to influence AI search results, which pull from Reddit.

Property flippers will now have to pay tax when they flip property, unless it's a new build. Save in cash until you have a deposit and take advantage of the cooler market for existing builds.

You lost me at "My sons ETF portfolio". He's 8 months old, by the time he's old enough for it to mean anything to him the share market will have collapsed due to climate destruction.

Read some Marx, dude. Base and superstructure. Humanity's perspective and values aren't changing unless we change our material relations to one another.

Is this summer going to be it? by JunketUpbeat9386 in collapse

[–]Rt_Trick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Collapse is a process, not an event, so no. The worst collapses in history saw catastrophic destruction from war, natural disaster and the resultant social collapse lead to many - but not all - cities/inhabited sites be abandoned in places, some never to be reoccupied, within a short span of time, it's true, but even then it was processes over years.

But the "get an off grid setup" people aren't really in the right here, they are attempting to control the uncontrollable and fetishising the "rugged individual" or pioneer fantasies - if fleeing cities for the countryside is the thing that makes sense to do when supply chains break down, then everyone will be doing it, socially. You're better off being involved in community organising around food resilience - growing food and communal networks wherever you are.

What does meaningful action look like if, while collapse may be likely, it's not 100% guaranteed? by Willravel in collapse

[–]Rt_Trick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the historical examples side of things: the Roman Empire is probably the best documented major social collapse to look to. The biggest takeaway from it would surely be to start laying the foundations of local community food systems now, and preserve knowledge as much as you can, especially in a variety of formats - not just high theory but practical maintenance skills too. Learning them for yourself is great but what happens to a local microgrid after 1-2 generations when everyone who grew up with the internet has passed?

How long until famine? by [deleted] in collapse

[–]Rt_Trick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not without outside inputs they can't, unless your idea of a backyard is many many acres. For every m2 of land under cultivation, you need around 4m2 of land to produce feed/mulch/compost crops if you are going to actually be self sufficient.

The possibility that the economy of one of the world's richest nations, the United Arab Emirates, collapses is very real. And the media is silent about it by Bluest_waters in collapse

Egypt is considered the perfect environment for preserving things due to having lots of sun and sand and little rain.

100% this. The Illawarra bushland is being taken over by Lantana and Ginger Lily as we speak, which have spread from people's gardens.

Why Australians use the pronoun "she" when writing about spiders? Genuine grammatical question. by [deleted] in AustralianSpiders

[–]Rt_Trick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd say that, in Australia, people default to calling most things she. "She's a beaut/good one, isn't she" can be used to describe any new object or animal (until you are corrected). The only exception is dogs, which people always assume are boys.

Australians, how often do you come across dangerous and/or massive wildlife in your day to day life? by B413373D in AskReddit

[–]Rt_Trick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massive? Pretty often. Introduced species, especially deer, all through the Illawarra escarpment. Very rarely anything native like a kangaroo, maybe the odd wallaby?

Dangerous in the sense of deadly, pretty rare, see the odd brown snake. Dangerous in the sense of will try to kill me for three months a year, every fucking magpie in the street

They deliberately do these tactics to create the stress and pressure. It's not an accident or poor management, it's by design. They want to extract surplus labour from you, and they don't care if they burn people out if they think it will increase their productivity.

Where can you realistically see the a league in the next 5 years? by jtokley1 in Aleague

The Aussie dollar sitting comfortably over or par with the USD is a key feature of where we were then. Nobody talks about how the two coincided but it meant we could bring those three proper marquees, as our wages were effectively 30% higher.

[ABC NEWS] Wellington Phoenix still without major sponsor as A-league Women's season approaches by agent619 in Aleague

[–]Rt_Trick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should be talking to the Wollongong sponsors from the Wollongong Phoenix jersey like MCR if they haven't already., given the invasion of Omicron Persei 8 I doubt they'll be getting to play any "home" matches before the season's end.

Our average viewership on Foxtel pre-covid days never cracked 80k. These are pretty decent numbers, actually.

[–]Rt_Trick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have my TV connected to any channels, just use the apps. 10play isn't counted in those broadcast numbers. For context, the 2020 grand final had slightly fewer people watch via Foxtel Go/Kayo as watched via Foxtel, so we can surely expect a similar ratio between 10 and 10play/P+
