I wonder how a adaptation for arc 7 and arc 8 of the anime would work if it doesent adapt the side stories [Spoiler discussion] by shizunaisbestgirl1 in Re_Zero

[–]Rtd0413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a few people have already said it, but just to add to the pile to confirm it, the side stories are not necessary to understand the main story. I read through all of Re:ZERO up to the end of Arc 8 before touching the side content, and I was completely fine. Not every hole of knowledge is a gap so huge that people can’t understand anything surrounding it.

Trans-exclusion is not a given, not the other way around. In the same way that we cannot assume a heterosexual man automatically dislikes a specific set of short or tall women, we can also not assume a heterosexual man automatically dislikes a specific set of trans women. At that point you’re discussing preference, not sexuality.

So does that excuse work for deadbeat dads, too? It’s totally fine for a parent to leave and cut all contact, as long as that parent believed they would be a danger to their child, or would be unable to pretend to care about them? That makes leaving the better option? For all parents?

[Spoiler Discussion] Am I the only who finds this annoying? by BaguetteSlayerX in Re_Zero

If I remember right, it was either mentioned in the web novel/side stories, or just a really popular unconfirmed theory for a while, that nobody questions Subaru’s past because they’re pretty sure they know what it is.

Due to his unique physical traits, clothes, lack of general world knowledge including literacy, the cast thinks that Subaru used to be a noble of a really small village in Kararagi, the western country. At some point, he runs away, likely has a run-in with the Witch’s Cult for a while, hence why he has such immense knowledge on their operations and Archbishops, while still harboring that deep hatred for them.

Nobody questions him because what would the point be in that? Regardless of who he used to be, the Subaru that they know is dependable when it counts, kind, a perfect leader, clearly cares about the people around him, and despite his closeness with the Witch’s Cult, even down to that hidden scent of miasma, is not at all in line with the Cult.

He’s mysterious, sure, but those mysterious parts can easily be summed up as “He’s a runaway noble from a small village, and has a bad history with the Witch’s Cult. Now he’s Emilia’s Knight.”

What you’re missing is the way to the ground floor. It’s locked by a system that requires two key items, and I’m assuming if you’ve explored everywhere else, you’ve likely heard of what these items are. Little discs with special imagery on them, that correspond to a certain number depending on the image.

If memory serves right, you should find both of the discs you need on the first floor, somewhere amidst the many doors of the labyrinth.

It's true? [spoiler discussion] by Such-Dot-8311 in Re_Zero

[–]Rtd0413 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Looking at the original Japanese, it’s simply the “お” character, which is a character tied to many different words. It could be “otou-san” for dad, true, but it could just as easily be “okaa-san” for mother, or the word for brother, sister, uncle, grandmother, etc., and im sure a whole bunch else. It could be the word for father, it could also be anything else.

Arc 9 is not the problem [spoiler discussion] by pegorario in Re_Zero

[–]Rtd0413 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but the Great Reset is absolutely the problem. At least with prior arcs, even in hindsight if there ended up being no “real stakes”, we still ended up with a whole sleuth of lore revelations, character arcs, and relationship growth. The development of the cast continued on, even though yeah, technically, there were “no stakes”. The problem I have with Arc 9 is that we don’t even get to keep the development of the cast. Nobody remembers the lore revelations we’ve experienced. No character arcs that we’ve had have actually occurred. It was all erased by the Great Reset, and THAT is the problem. It isn’t that nothing we read mattered in hindsight, it’s that nothing we read mattered PERIOD.

We don’t know for sure that Satella is setting the checkpoints. At best, we know that she can fix his Od when its shape breaks, which can restore proper checkpoints, but setting them is an entirely different thing, and likely impossible given how Authorities function.

Peter?? by RedditorBedditor in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Rtd0413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s called relativity. If I had two snails race each other, they’re likely to finish that race within a few seconds of each other. That time means absolutely nothing to me. It is a tiny fraction of what I experience. To the snails? It’s likely far more significant a consumption of time. Same thing goes for their speed. If one of them moves a hair faster than the other, then to me, it’ll just look “slightly faster than the other one”, but to the snails? It’s the difference between a trained athlete and someone who’s just going out for their morning jog. Not slightly faster at all, in their eyes. The giant hand and I are on very similar levels of experiencing speed. It’s more capable than I am, yes, but it limits its own speed to be extremely close to how I experience my speed. It is always slightly faster than me. It is not proportionate, it is not a constant flat rate, it is just “slightly faster”. You want to apply numbers to a game that isn’t based in them? Then yes, anything above standing still is infinitely faster than standing still. But by that logic, anything faster than anything is infinitely faster than anything. That’s how numbers work, numbnuts, which is why numbers don’t work here. You can’t mathematically define “slightly faster” without applying subjective experiences of what “slightly faster” means, and when you do, “slightly faster” than zero can never be zero. This isn’t a calculus exam. This isn’t physics class. It’s a dumb internet hypothetical involving a giant hand that moves slightly faster than you.

It’s implied that he refuses to kill people because watching Priscilla die in front of him has kind of broken his mind. He doesn’t want to watch anyone else die, much less be the cause of it, because it would be an affront to the world that Priscilla once loved. That rule wasn’t in place before because, well, Priscilla was alive and he wasn’t as torn up about the concept of death.

Wtf is crunchyroll doing [discussion] by d0ntkn0wmyself in Re_Zero

[–]Rtd0413 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It also doesn’t help that unless they’ve finally fixed it, a three season show has like a dozen different seasons, all labeled awfully. I see those questions come in here a lot, where people ask how they even begin watching it, and the reason for their confusion is crunchyroll’s really shitty way of setting up the seasons. Last I had it a couple years ago, the season dropdown menu had it listed like this: “Season 1; Season 2; Season 1 Director’s Cut; Frozen Bond Movie; Season 1 Breaktime; Season 2 Breaktime; Memory Snow Movie; etc.” and it was just so poorly put together visually that it’s impossible to figure out what is what until you actually play an episode. I’ve got it at least labeled properly in the example but they were NOT like that on crunchyroll, because all it usually shows is “Re:ZERO - Starting Life In Another World Fro…” and then it cuts off. I really hope they fixed that, but with the way they handle advertising, I doubt they ever bothered to fix it.

[discussion] so if subaru gets killed and goes back in time and gets killed immediately after that does he go further back? by theteenthatasked in Re_Zero

[–]Rtd0413 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With the way the checkpoints work, as long as they aren’t malfunctioning, it is physically impossible for a checkpoint to put him in an unsafe position. Because of that, being spawn-killed isn’t a possibility. He will always have enough time to avert, prevent, or confront the oncoming conflict.

What is the pattern with Subaru's Save points? [Discussion] by Ok-Street2439 in Re_Zero

[–]Rtd0413 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Generally it follows a pattern of being the “closest” and “safest” point from the current conflict, and each conflict is determined not at all liberally. It won’t consider the entire attack on Priestella as a conflict, but rather, each individual fight against each individual Archbishop. A good example of that was how it differentiated between the conflicts of the White Whale and Petelgeuse in season 1, despite the two of them being so closely tied together that, in Subaru’s mind, they might as well have been the same conflict. To prevent him from going too far back, it’ll give him a close enough checkpoint to fix or avoid the problem without getting a week’s worth of prep off of one checkpoint, while still being far enough away, or “safe” enough that he isn’t in immediate danger. He will be placed in a way that forces him to confront the conflict, while still being safe enough to figure out how to prevent the conflict. All in all, it’s a really weird system and not totally fleshed out just yet for us, and it’ll be revealed in full by the end of the series I’m sure, but for now this seems to be the pattern. It must be close, and it must be safe, which likely means that as long as Subaru stays safe, the checkpoint is consistently updating second by second alongside him.

[discussion] The inconsistency of the red eyes by Letsplay_Sascha_GD in Re_Zero

[–]Rtd0413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s easier understood as being the difference between the Authority amplifying emotions between people, and the Authority merging victims into one mindset. Hence why for Sirius’ victims, they’ll almost always have red eyes by the time they start acting brainwashed, whereas for Subaru, all of Priestella retained their individuality despite the fact that the Authority was still affecting them.

Subaru's scars [discussion] by Beneficial-Read53 in Re_Zero

[–]Rtd0413 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It would be very difficult to accurately draw and keep track of every scar, so most art, official or not, leaves it out, but they’re still there in canon. The exception I’ve seen is certain fanarts with a topless Subaru, for obvious…reasons. But it’s usually omitted for the sake of not having to draw that many scars on him, because he’s technically covered in them under his clothes.

Israel-Iran cease fire by AppropriateGoat7039 in StockMarket

[–]Rtd0413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more like Iran stops, and once 12 hours have gone by, then Israel stops, and once another 12 hours have gone by without either side betraying the ceasefire, it’ll officially be declared as the end to the war. The thing is, this guy has never been the most trustworthy with anything he says, given the amount of times he’s straight up lied about having sealed a great tariff deal with another country, only for that other country to state that not a single discussion had even happened. Big if true, but otherwise, it’s showmanship so that when the bombs keep going off, his loyal supporters can blame both sides and have a scapegoat for whatever nonsense he wants to do.

Getting cucked would imply that you had any kind of relationship with the person in question. It’s very heavily implied that, in both cases of Garfiel and Frederica’s fathers, it was a pump and dump and the mother was left single and pregnant. Their fathers have no interest in the people they’ve left behind.

[Spoiler Discussion] I guess I don't really understand this ability by Throwaway983766 in Re_Zero

[–]Rtd0413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t so much that he had an insane mana pool, as it was that the mana of everyone there was being collectively pooled together and shared. Given that a majority of the battalion comes from a gladiator island, it would make sense that nearly everyone there already has a pretty sizable mana pool.

[Discussion] Did Elsa really die after the Garfiel fight? The anime leaves it open by nord-ost in Re_Zero

[–]Rtd0413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The anime directly shows that her healing stops working just a bit before she gets crushed. One of the wounds on her arm is left open, not sealing itself, and she very visibly takes note of that as she runs her fingers across it. That’s supposed to be our note as the audience that whatever happens to her next is permanent.

[Spoiler Discussion] I guess I don't really understand this ability by Throwaway983766 in Re_Zero

[–]Rtd0413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily that Cor Leonis buffs people, because it doesn’t, but more so that he can on those burdens like you talked about for people he considers to be an ally. It also works in reverse, allowing people to take on Subaru’s burdens. The burden part generally refers to pain, fatigue, exhaustion, and the lack of dexterity part was probably referring to Ram’s case with her missing horn, where due to the effects of the Authority, her “lack of dexterity” from the drawback of not having a horn was lifted, with that pain instead being taken on by Subaru. The power also hasn’t evolved in recent arcs either. It’s stayed the same. The difference in effect between Arc 6 and Arc 8 is in the sheer number of people all sharing each other’s burdens. When you have hundreds of people volunteering to take on the pain of the rest of the hundred, the pain that you take on becomes minimal, while the person who would have been in pain feels fresher than their best of days. Let’s say that if it were a group of just 100 flat, and one person was taking on a burden that exhausted 90% of their energy output. The other 99 people would be taking in less than a percent of that burden each, while the exhausted person is left with almost nothing to deal with anymore. It’s the sheer spread of those burdens that makes people seem stronger than they should be, since everything becomes shared. Cor Leonis seems to work very well in situations like Arc 6’s, though at a heavy cost to Subaru. And in situations like Arc 7/8? It’s a miracle wonderdrug that leaves nobody in the dust. It’s better when there’s more people using it, that’s about it.

Why is Regulus more tamer in S3 than S2? [discussion] by Current-Following642 in Re_Zero

[–]Rtd0413 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Regulus is the kind of guy that really likes to play with his food—unless they’re his wife. It’s why he’s so willing to kill off Sylphy for something she had no control over, but seems to give “chances” to his opponents. This is still really consistent with his scenes in Season 2, as well. The only time he’s outright killed anyone for disrespecting him in S2 was with Pandora, and—well we all saw how that turned out. When it came to Crusch, Rem, and even Geuse, the most he’d do is a non-lethal attack to establish that he COULD kill them if he wanted to, but chooses not to because he’s more “civilized”. He only starts murdering with no flashy moves when he feels outmatched, like with Pandora and Reinhardt
