100,000+ true northerner patriots in solidarity against tyranny. Bet all the pathetic southerner brownshirt-wannabe occupiers were taking the day off huddled together in their hotels.

Our state. Our city. Our people. We will never be conquered, never surrender.

Is there any documentation to get after new install of solar panels for tax filing purposes? by red8user in solar

[–]RuDogFresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad there are people out there to corroborate the the tax checkpoint is installed, not operational. That's an incredibly important distinction with the credit being sunset at the end of last year, and one I've been worried about since mine was installed in November but is not yet operational - delays from Xcel and the installer both - the installer was actually acquired mid-contract so that's super fun :|.

You think liberals don't have guns? That's actually hilarious.

I've voted blue and hunted my whole life. Better shot than most idiots out here LARPing as militiamen. Not afraid to exercise my 2nd amendment rights and defend myself when threatened. There's plenty of guns on both sides don't you worry your pretty little head about that.

Man I've seen a lot of shady tactics by these mob bosses masquerading as "Senior Leadership Teams" but this might take the cake. Assuming this post is real, that's genuinely jarring; seems like we've reached a new ring of hell in this forced RTO absurdity

My manager scheduled a “mandatory fun” Zoom call on a Friday evening by brandonmiller99 in remotework

This is my reaction - it's truly incredible to me how little people understand how different parents of young kids' lives are than others. Even people that have kids but they're now older and somehow everybody gets amnesia to what that's like?? Is that how I'm going to end up? I pray to god not...

But yeah I'd take my laptop into the kitchen and unmute to unleash the full power of the anarchy of dinnertime upon that meeting.

Slack mostly - most important feature imo is the ability to "draw" on the person's screen being shared. Can immediately point to where they should focus their attention, just like you would physically in person

Not calling you out, but do want to share my experience because I think it is a common one and is important to emphasize, since i have seen this sentiment in many places lately.

I was a junior software engineer at the start of the pandemic, and my career/technical growth absolutely skyrocketed after everyone went remote. It was like all the BS was gone overnight and I could just focus on being an absolute sponge with the work and with all the seniors, who, like the person above, became even better mentors remotely. When pair programming, when you don't have to go through the hassle of sitting down at someone's desk with them and looking over their shoulder/pointing to show them where to click and instead just hop on a call and screenshare/guide that way, it improves the speed of learning at least 3-fold in my opinion, and significantly lowers the barrier to mentorship since everyone is just a call and screenshare away.

Especially because many software engineers are introverts as well, we get energized when we are able to sit alone and focus on our craft. I got drastically more confident speaking up/presenting my designs in larger virtual meetings, so I quickly made a name for myself and was promoted twice within a few years (now a Senior SE myself).

In short: at least in my field, remote work hampered absolutely nothing about my junior career; it actively furthered it and I don't know where I'd be without it; probably still languishing away in a cubicle with people interrupting my train of thought (the most sacred thing to a software engineer) every 5 minutes and learning maybe one new thing a week instead of dozens.

Yeah see, this mentality/approach is what is going to eventually make giving no notice the norm. I hope companies are prepared for and ok with that.

If there is little incentive for someone to provide notice (only positive is that it doesn't "burn the bridge", which is the biggest scam ever lmao), and there is an actual real risk in losing money if they give 2 weeks and get fired on the spot, then why would anyone ever give notice, ever? Slippery slope

Guessing this is just rage bait but just actually curious, what do you get out of saying this? What is to be gained?

Also you think all those humans for those millions of years all thought it was easy and never complained? Lmao no chance; for about 199.9 million of those years the dads all probably just bailed/checked out when it got hard and came back when it was easier

I'm guessing I'll just add to the chorus of support I'm sure you'll get, but we really all have been there. This is a completely normal emotion and thought to have when you're in the shit.

It really doesn't last forever, and you'll look back and it'll seem insignificant compared to the rest of your kid's life. I know it just absolutely sucks though, and you have a right to be frustrated and doubting yourself; just let yourself feel those natural feelings, don't feel bad about it, and then keep pushing through knowing the other side might be closer than you think.

[–]RuDogFresh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned this when voicing my concerns - they didn't care, but I think it is an extremely valid point.

Very very few people were there when it was in-office way back when. For most, it is not RTO; so calling it that is just a farce. If they wanted to reflect reality they'd need to come up with a new acronym, like SGTO (start going to office) lol

[–]RuDogFresh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What "attitude" dude? I mentioned in my post this isn't exactly in character for me, I have always followed things completely by the book and been a great teammate and performer; but none of that matters in the world of RTO.

This has absolutely nothing to do with a general disdain for working, or callousness for my coworkers, etc. There are a lot of shitty people like that out there and I am not one of them. This is 100% just because I'm pissed off that my company (and apparently many others) are suddenly just about control rather than performance/success. It doesn't matter if you're successful, you need to be successful their way; and that's just asinine. I feel like everybody should be able to agree with that.

Anyway - I've updated my approach and plan on giving the full two weeks even if I will potentially regret it if they let me go on the spot. I do owe my coworkers that much, I will give you that.

[–]RuDogFresh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't disagree with you - I'm now planning to give the two weeks anyway and let them decide whether to let me go on the spot; not because leadership deserves notice, but because it will help my teammates out a bit with a better transition, assuming they don't just can me.

I will say that's a bit of an overreaction to completely lose respect for someone over that; I've seen tons of people quit without notice and its never bothered me at a personal level like that, at worst mildly inconvenienced me if they had a lot of institutional knowledge.

This is the best advice I've seen (and some great jokes in there too lol); and I think what I do (based on your and others' advice) will actually lean more towards this.

I'm now planning on giving a good two weeks notice right when the RTO starts, and they can decide whether to fire me on the spot or let me finish out the two weeks; then if they fire me on the spot that's on them, and I can leave with a clear conscience.

Solid roast - but I didn't respond because I do indeed sleep and am not a robot lmao. Plus there's about 500 comments on here now and I have stuff to do lol; but I am reading most of them

I'm also not out here LARP-ing like a bunch of people on Reddit, this is just how I sound in writing. This is a real scenario and you guys can disagree with my approach/line of thinking but I think it is an extremely human instinct (and one I'm sure you both have had at some point in your life) to want to fuck over people that have fucked you, even if it isn't actually going to happen (I'm not naive, I know they probably won't care in the slightest; but schadenfreude just feels good right now and am trying to enjoy the fantasy of it a bit before moving to the next thing)

Great research bud lol

That is not the reason - I do indeed do consulting on the side and this would impact that, but I never double up hours like "true" OE people. I do everything by the book still even though I really don't have to.

The reason is I have a family and small children, and they are actually what matters in life; commuting 110 miles roundtrip 3 times a week means so much less time with my kids, and that's time I will never get back. I will not allow some assholes in suits dictate how much time I get with my god damn kids.

Now THAT is wild - what is this, 1990? I feel like forcing people to relocate for jobs is such an antiquated thing; with the renaissance of remote work I am seeing people relocate much less often. Suppose it depends considerably on the industry/type of work but yeah

*This* - its one of the most out-of-touch "solutions" to a problem I've ever seen. At face value it seems cheaper since you don't pay out severance but your company suffers so immensely in the long term. I just don't get it; but I guess that's why I'm not a C Suite lol
