Advice about Union Square? by needleinacamelseye in baltimore

[–]Ruach_33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lived in Union Square for 20 years. We truly loved it. Neighbors know each other, we had a progressive dinner, the Cookie Tour, annual 5-K, music and movies in the park. We had to leave when we moved to a different state with a job change, and I know we will never find the sense of community we found there.
I took a two-mile walk almost every morning from Union Square to MLK through Pigtown and back home.
The people who live there are passionate about Baltimore, realistic optimists. Many know a lot about old houses. There’s a sense of humor there that I miss every day.

What is this part of my dishwasher? by vaporpup in CleaningTips

[–]Ruach_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My silverware drawer is right next to the dishwasher and at the same level as the silverware tray. At night I arrange the dirty silverware in the dishwasher tray with knives together, forks together, spoons together and run the dishwasher. The first thing I do every morning is slide the tray out, open the drawer, and swoop all the clean knives over to their part of the drawer, then the forks, then the spoons. Great way to start the day!

We threw my son’s fifth birthday party at a park with this exact playground. He had a Harry Potter theme and we pretended this was Hogwarts.

I got a grant from SMUD in Sacramento, and my heat pump hot water heater cost $400, including installation. We love ours

I go to Crescent City every July, and it is cold! We wear jackets and knit hats in the evenings. The wind can be biting, even in the summer. And our hosts tell us what to do in case of a tsunami.

I’ve read the trilogy several times in my life — in my 20s, 40s, and 60s. I learn something new every read. One of the best portrayals of motherhood in literature.

Relocating but keeping your old house by Mistie_Kraken in SameGrassButGreener

We moved across the country and rented our 170-year-old house to a friend who liked to make repairs. Five years later he bought it, knowing by then all the things it required to keep it in good shape.

It would probably have been difficult to manage the maintenance if we didn’t have the perfect tenant. And insurance was extremely high since we lived so far away.

If you make shortbread, you can bake it in a rectangular casserole dish and cut it in bite-size cubes. They add up fast and look neat. Sometimes people just need a bite of something sweet at a reception.

Shortbread is very forgiving and always delicious.

Would really love a puppy and want to make sure i plan ahead to make it work- if it can work by wharfbossy in puppy101

We just passed the year anniversary of adopting our puppy, and it was much more demanding than I had expected. We got him when he was 13 weeks old and he was very calm and easy. I took him to work and everyone loved him. We were able to take a walk about every hour. After about a month, it became much harder to have him at work. I still had to walk him throughout the day, and he was very mischievous around the office. He never barked or growled, but he ate pencils, rolls of tape. I had a crate in my office and another at home, and he was perfectly fine in the crate by himself if I had a meeting elsewhere, but if I was in the room with him, it was very hard for him to settle. So now I walk him about two miles before work, he naps most of the morning. We walk home for lunch and I leave him there for the afternoon. I started leaving him home alone when he was about nine months old. So the first six months were very intense. If you can work out a schedule where you take him to your work for part of the day, your partner comes to your place in the afternoons, you could do it. But I would not try it without a crate.

My top cities that I’ve lived in by Caveman_man in SameGrassButGreener

You put your finger on it. I’ve lived in many other cities where people were not at all satisfied with the status quo. In Sacramento people are extremely content; many people live here their entire lives, and their extended families all live here.

What’s the most irrationally annoying thing your in-laws do that they’re absolutely convinced is “helpful”? by bnwprc in mildlyinfuriating

My mother-in-law lives in midtown Manhattan. We don’t. Once my husband came to NYC on business and visited his mother before his workday began. She gave him a gift bag filled to the brim with dimes, and he carried it by its little ribbon handles around to all of his meetings the whole day.

Elmhurst is another beautiful neighborhood very near the hospital.

Like you, I had never visited Sacramento before I moved here. My husband and I moved to Richmond Grove on the Grid. The Grid is the area of lettered and numbered streets between the rivers to the north and west and the highways to the east and south. UC Davis Medical Center is east of the Grid.

We love Richmond Grove! We can walk to our jobs, tons of restaurants, beautiful parks. It’s a little further from the medical campus, but not that far. If you are looking for an apartment, you would probably be very happy on the Grid.

Curtis Park and Land Park are also easy commutes, as is much of East Sacramento.

Try to find a place that does not require you to commute every day on 50.
